I found this on the net' and while I think that the dude focus too much on current creators, he has a TON of useful stuff. All of my comic creator friends should take a look. Here.Current Mood: contemplative Current Music: Fear Factory-H-K (Hunter-Killer)-Demanufacture (NLT Release)

Hello local comic writers and graphic storytellers,
My name is Jory Mickelson and I am a reporter/writer with Western's Klipsun Magazine. I would like to write a story about Bellingham's comic and graphic storytelling community and culture. The article can cover the B.S. of Comics, Comicon, local artists etc. I was wondering if any of you would be willing to let me interview you by phone or in person.
If you are willing, please get back to me as soon as you can. Thanks!

(this is x-posted to the B.S. of Comics FaceBook Group)
We're making a book. It will be a 6.5" by 10.25" affair. And if you make comics of any sort and you've lived in Whatcom County for any length of time that seems significant to you, you're invited to submit work to it!
Please do, we'd like to fill it up.
The current plans are to fill up the first and primary portion of the book with cream of the crop work. The second portion of the book, toward the back, will be for sketches, doodles and anything that didn't make it into the front. The very last portion will be something short and special by the editor, to act as a kind of punctuation and give the reader a good sense of closure to the work.
The goal of this book is to do two things: A) Impress the reader with the quality of work that comes out of Bellingham and greater Whatcom County and B) impress the reader with the quantity of talent. It should also serve as a demonstration of how inclusive the B.S. of Comics is.
Let me repeat, I want to be able to publish everyone's work.
I'm thinking, however, that we should keep it RELATIVELY family friendly. Nudity, crass language, and adult subjects are OK, as long as it is important to the message of the comic (however, these things may or may not be censored in the end). Porn or shock comics are not welcome for this collection. For the purposes of this book, we will represent free speech by being a good example of it, not by testing it.
Again, don't second guess yourself. When in doubt, submit it. I'll get back to you. We have the time to find the right stuff to put in it.
I'd like to print this by next October if possible. I'll get back to everyone with deadlines.
Thanks!

Despite the snow, Harmless Free Radicals will be represented at the B.S. of Comics today, at the Black Drop Coffee House, 300 W. Champion St. in Bellingham.
For those cartoonists who show up, I have a special offer. There's about six of them to give you. I'll tell you what it is if you show up!

1:17pm: Packing up my stuff and heading down to the B.S.! See you there!
2:00: There is B.S.!

2:18: It's pretty crowded down here, and I've got one of the little tables. I only have enough room for my laptop, so drawing is difficult. And we're not talking about much right now. But everyone else is drawing, so that's good!
I'd like to suggest that we move the Saturday meetings to the Library (but I've got to talk to the Library first), and have the "after-meeting" at the Drop. There would be several advantages to this, including possible inclusion in the Library's schedule. It might cost something, though.
2:48: My laptop battery is getting low, so I'm gonna close this up and do some drawing for a while. I'll post again before we all leave. It's getting down to just me and Johnny, anyway.
4:10: Rachel and C.T. also both showed up, and sat on the other side of the room. We have to do this occasionally at the Drop, and it's cool. But it would be nice to have more space. Anyway, we could keep drawing, and I'm sure Johnny and Rachel will probably do just that, but I've got work to do and now is the official ending of the meeting! I bet you wish you had been here:

| » Dec. Monday Meeting! A new way of doing things. |
I've brought my laptop to today's B.S. of Comics meeting. The idea is to live blog the meeting (or, as they say in Government circles, "take the minutes"). If you can't make it but still want to participate in the discussion, comment below!
5:42: I'm the only one here. Currently, this happens and I'm OK with that. We've had dead meetings in the past and the group lives on. I am thinking about posters and meeting times and other things like that, but no definite decisions have been made yet. Also, I'd like to make a stronger effort to collect an artists directory. Finally, I'm thinking I need a special B.S. of Comics icon.
5:59: Jess Mannly and I just talked shop about being screwed by our graphic design clients. It was funny in that we basically had the same story about two completely different pizza places. Restaurant owners are under a specific kind of stress. I don't think I'd ever want to be one.
6:15: I just gave two separate people my quote for a portrait of three people. If you were down here, you might be making money, too!
6:19: tormentedartist just commented in my journal post about the B.S. We are now officially having a virtual meeting! Woot!
6:45: The Drop closes in 15 minutes, and I'm watching a couple of photographers putting up their tiny little photos. It's going to be a fun little show! People are going to have to lean in and squint to look at some of the pictures, but they're totally worth it, and the scale of the little photos on the green wall of the shop is fun. Definitely worth coming down here for.
Speaking of shows. I've got a show booked at the Drop in February for Harmless Free Radicals. I'm aiming to book several more throughout the year. If I'm good at this, I may share a corner of each show with the B.S. of Comics, if there is anybody who wants to show of their work. Keep this in mind!
7:00: The Black Drop closes, and the meeting is concluded. Next Saturday's meeting starts at 2pm, and I'll be here with my laptop and scanner. I'd like to post at least one comic to this journal in the course of the meeting. Good night!

Well, -I'm- just in, back to the City of Subdued Excitement. Looking forward to meeting up with you guys at the next BSoC get-together. They're Monday nights down at the Drop, if I am correct?
More importantly, thought I'd share that you can now attend the University of Florida and get a Master's in "comic studies". *link* Thought you guys might get a kick out of that. :)

X-Posted to fenmere, just to make sure. Lj-Cut for your friends' list
Hey, all!
I'm going to be down at the Black Drop today by noon. And I'll be there through 3pm.
I've got some drawing to do, but really, what I'd like to do is talk about what could be done with the B.S. of Comics in this next year. I'm going to have a big yellow notepad, and I'm going to take notes.
If you can't make it, and whether you are a member or not, please leave your ideas and suggestions here instead!
( Right now, there are three major things on my mind (maybe four): )

| » Dooooo Eeeeeeet!!!! |
So, here is my thought
The BS of Comics should have a table at NorWescon. I am willing to cover the brunt of the cost (I may regret saying that, seeing as I don't know the costs this year) but I really would love to see folks pull together material for this. If you can kick in some money to help offset this between now and then, that cool. However, once I can confirm a table, I want to see folks pull together material to contribute. I will happily work to man the table and represent.
Doooo Eeeeeet!!!
