Director Andrea Romano has talked about casting Bruce:

QUESTION:
How did you end up promoting Bruce Davison to President?

ANDREA ROMANO:
I met Bruce at a wedding about 20 years ago and have admired his
acting for so long anyway. It was another one of those perfect matches
of voice and character. We had this nice role of the President that
needed some gravitas to it and, at the same time, this particular
President was a bit of a coward. Bruce was able to give us both of
those aspects in just the right doses.

News
Bruce's new TV movie, "A Golden Christmas", will premiere on ION on Sunday, December 13 at 9:00 PM, ET.

And Bruce's Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths co-star Chris Noth had this to say about working with Bruce:

Q: Did it get easier when Bruce Davison joined you at the microphone?

CHRIS NOTH: That was even more fun because I know Bruce and it's always more fun to work off another person. Sandy Meisner, the great acting teacher, used to say that what you do doesn't depend on you. It depends on the other fellow. In other words, they make you respond. So when Bruce came in, there was a new kind of energy that I sort of relished. I didn't have that many scenes with him, but he was a lot of fun and I think he made a great President.

Criminal Minds star Paget Brewster had this to say about working with Bruce on "Demonology":

TVGuide.com: The episode is titled "Demonology" and it says, "Prentiss has a personal connection to one of the victims in a series of deaths with religious overtones." Man, you can almost hear the thunderclap in the background.
Brewster: Basically we discover that a priest is performing exorcisms outside of the church guidelines. Bruce Davison plays a Catholic priest we go to for advice, and he tells us, "Hey, the church knows it's done, but there are certain guidelines you have to follow," and this "renegade" isn't doing that. The question becomes, "Is this guy actually chasing a demon or is this guy a serial killer?" If we get this guy, are we stopping someone from doing a good thing?

TVGuide.com: Bruce Davison is always a fun guest star.
Brewster: That guy is so much fun. One day he asked me, "Are you Brewster as in William Brewster from the Mayflower?' I said, "Yeah, how would you know that?" It turns out that my [ancestor] nursed his through influenza, at Plymouth! He gave me the book Mayflower, so I'm sending him The Wordy Shipmates by Sarah Vowell.

HollywoodToday has some quotes from Bruce regarding the Oscars:

Nearly 20 years after his nomination for supporting actor in “Longtime Companion” Bruce Davison remembers how his nomination “changed my life.” Professionally he was “suddenly in a whole other category of actors who could do parts, who could have opportunities. I’ve had a whole career since then.”

[...]

Still, Davison calls it “a scary horserace. It just keeps coming so fast…We hop around in this business for 30 years, and then we are suddenly thrown into the (awards) arena. I was competing with people I enjoyed.”
