We have started a Google Group for 1st Grade parents who were shut out of BSI. If we get enough families we thought we might be able to make some noise and get the DOE to reconsider and open an additional 1st Grade. Interested? address to join: http://groups.google.com/group/another-first-grade-at-bsi Some background: originally, BSI planned to have two K classes and two 1st Grade classes for Gifted and Talented (G+T) Students. Apparently, the Office of Student Enrollment thought that there would be more interest in K classes than in 1st Grades, and rearranged to have three K and only one 1st Grade. If your child has been shut out of BSI's 1st Grade, please join our Google Group. Thanks. Yelena. |

Now you can check it out on another of those handy-dandy interactive maps (this time courtesy of the NY Times). Murder: New York City Each day, the New York Police Department announces major crimes, including most homicides, in the five boroughs. This data is compiled from those reports, in addition to news accounts, court records and additional reporting. The map will be updated as new information becomes available. See what kind of interesting things you find on twitter?

20 senators publicly stated their support for equal marriage, 32 are needed to pass the bill. Please check this list and contact your state senator and urge them to support marriage equality for all couples. Marriage is a civil rights issue, nobody should be denied the 1,800 state and federal benefits that come with marriage, such as the right to visit a loved one in a hospital, file joint tax returns, co-adopt kids, and many other rights and privileges enjoyed by heterosexual couples. |

Namaste, New Yorkers... I'm moving to New York city in a few weeks to be a Raw lifestyle coach. I just got my certifications and I've been preparing branding and logos and marketing plans and all the rest of it for the past couple weeks here in Atlanta. Here's the thing... I don't know hardly anyone in Brooklyn! And I especially don't know any other raw vegans, yogis, conscious people, or spiritualists. I want to find roommates that at least have similar lifestyles.... I don't think the typical New Yorker would quite sympathize with morning chanting or their roommate drinking algae or growing Kombucha fungus in the fridge unless they were of certain "alternative" inclinations themselves. So I'm posting this entry in this community in the hopes that someone here knows someone in Brooklyn, preferably a vegan, yogi, hippie, spiritualist, whatever, who is looking for a roommate! Here's to intention! :-) Thanks

Based on an actual experiment devised by director/actor Daryl Wein and actress Zoe Lister-Jones, the film loosely interprets a year in their lives exploring alternatives to monogamy, and the madness that ensues. An uncensored look at young love, lust, and the pangs of codependency, 'Breaking Upwards' follows its characters as they navigate each others' emotions across the city they love. It begs the question: is it ever possible to grow apart together? | | | | | buy tickets view full film details | | | | | | | | | The film screening of "Breaking Upwards" will be preceded by the short animation: SKHIZEIN by Dir: Jeremy Clapin, France, 14 min, Animation | 10:00pm - PARTY! Hey everyone. I'm going to be living in Brooklyn for the summer while interning. Since I'm new to the area, I was wondering what are some cool/preferably not too expensive places to check out. My boyfriend and his friends plan on visiting shortly after I move in...they're sort of....hipsters........hahaha Anything that would entertain them? haha thanks!

My boyfriend and I, both 24 yrs old and working full time, just moved here from San Francisco a couple of months ago. We have been apartment sharing since we arrived and now the time has come where we really need to find a new place! We can afford about 1300 a/mo between the two of us. We would like to stay in Park Slope since it's right by my work and so close to the subway.. We are neat, clean and not one of those freakish couples who makes out in front of people all the time. We are totally drama-free as well! So if anyyyyone knows of anything or anyone or any places that would be cool or you're looking to move in a couple of months... please let us know! We love it here and really want to stay.
