This is my first drabble I have ever written, which ended up 13 words over so find it in your heart to forgive me. Parenthood He didn’t quite understand it. Why, him? He hated kids, especially loud, annoying, and never fully satisfied brats. So why was he stuck with the damn saru. He should have left him in the cage. Laughter suddenly filled the air, as he watched the chibi saru chase after an unsuspecting squirrel. Suddenly, he could see ‘him’. “Master,” he whispered as he listened to his voice ring in his ears. ‘Maybe, one day, you too will hear a voice calling for you.’ The wind picked up, as his cigarette flew towards the sun. Unending laughter filled his head as he looked up to the too blue sky. He never was cut out for parenthood. |

Uhm. It occurs to me about a day too late that '12 AM EST, Sept 21st, 2005' might very well have meant *last* night at midnight. Crap. If that is indeed the case, I'm going to have to beg leniency for my quite-honest misunderstanding. ^_^; As it is, I'm like three minutes under the deadline as it is so I'ma hurry up through the bit about fic barely finished as in *just* barely like five minutes ago barely, somehow drifted from the challenge elements presented but the required items are still present and the fic is still very rough, will undergo much spit and polish in coming weeks but for now-- *breathes*

Welcome back everyone! I know the Snowed In Challenge went bust this year, but ah well. It was a good idea wasn't it? But we have the summer heat back, and all the joy and sillyness that comes with Summer Vacation. 2005 Summer Detour

Reply to the other participants' posts. Giving ideas for something they can write. Characters to drop by, crazy situations, off color lines. Anything! It's up to you guys to see if we can challenge each other and to have fun doing it. See what we can come with, and how much fun we can have fun while talking amongst ourselves. Even us lazy mods will be taking part in it.
Part 4: Deadline Now until 12 AM EST, Sept 21st, 2005.
We start immediately! That's right, as of this very minute. Our ending date will be as last year. The end of summer in the western hemisphere, and onset of fall weather.

And that's all. Yes, we enjoyed the Fork in the Road sub-challenge so much last year, we thought it'd be fun to see what we could do with an entire summer's worth of time to play with it. *evil grin*

Greetings, from your friendly lurking co-mod!
Yes, indeed, it's the time of year again to think about summer. Warm weather, vacations for the lucky few, that kinda thing. Feel like writing? If so, the Compass is in need of fic submission.
We were a little bummed that the Snowed in Challenge didn't go over too well, but that was partly our fault. I tried for a story, but the muses just wouldn't bite. So we let it slide by...
Now, though, it's summer, and hopefully summer comes with a bit more free time. (Yeah, right!) So we're issuing another Challenge. Look for more information from aliaswestgate in days to follow. Expect more variation on the Fork in the Road theme, as it seems to work well for most everyone involved.

Welcome back everyone! It's the holiday season and the weather has turned chilly. You know what that means? Time for a new fanfic/art challenge!
We present you with:
Snowed In.
Here's the general rules and regs.
1: Winter is here! So let's have a wintery theme to our fiction. What can we put our favorite parts of the cast through in relation to it? Lots of leeway to play here, folks.
2. Now for the body of the challenge. Here's the first of two things you can use in relation to the fiction. Think of them as moderator challenges...
Challenge 1 from the mind of sychogrl: Okay, so everyone is snowed in. Stir crazy and bored out of their minds waiting for the storm to end... when IT happens! Something so bizarre and unspeakable that it renders all boredom dead on contact! Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to tell us what IT is. *cue Mission Impossible music*
Challenge 2 from the mind ofaliaswestgate: "Short Days, Long Nights". The phrase leaves opportunity for all kinds of mischief(nice and naughty too). What happens one day and/or on one of those nights? Was it rauchy, was it cute? How crazy did the cast drive each other? Come up with something regarding that phrase. It leaves many options to what can be done, after all. ^_~
3: Deadlines: It begins December 21st and will end with the advent of spring on March 20th. For now, Winter Solstice has heralded the cold, and with it opportunity to play.
All entries must be in by that time to be counted as part of the Snowed In Challenge.
The usual options apply for all fanfic and fanart, regarding this community.
1: All pairings welcome. This is from tv canon, manga canon. This is pairings some hate, incest, squick, shounen-ai/yaoi, shoujou-ai/yuri, *gasp* hentai(as in perversions, not tentacle rape, got it?), het pairings. Anything(except mary sues) goes.
The type of fiction is welcome as well. General, comedy, whatever! All artists welcome, whether it be of the word, or the paintbrush.
2: Try something new. If you specialize in one pairing, try another. If you like a yaoi/shounen-ai, try yuri/shoujou-ai, or just pick a different pairing that's entirely different than what you normally write or draw. If you do drama, try comedy. If you specialize in romance--try straight drama. If you go for comedy, try general fiction. It wouldn't be a challenge if you didn't have something different to see what you are capable of writing or drawing, now would it? These are only suggestions, let your imagination do the rest....
3: No original characters, unless they are background to your story and help move it along in some way or another. No Mary Sues, no exceptions. Main characters must be someone from either the animated series in its many incarnations, or the animated movie or the manga. Gensomaden Saiyuki, Saiyuki:Gaiden, Saiyuki:Reload, Saiyuki:Reload Gunlock, Saiyuki: Requiem. No exceptions here either.
4: All entries must be behind a LJ Cut-tag. No exceptions.
5: Your Format: to be used for all entries. The story is NOT required to mention the challenge in its title, by the way.

Summary: Doku has never been all that fond of summer. Neither, it seems, has Kougaiji.
Author’s notes: Who knew that Doku would turn out to be such an interesting muse? My first Saiyuki fanfic. This was actually almost finished in time for the actual challenge deadline, but I didn’t like my characterization of Doku all that much. I’m still not all that happy with it, but I’ve managed to beat him enough into submission so that he sounds vaguely right, occasionally.
Challenge: Must include strawberries, sun block and parasols. Must be first person. Must be a Doku/Kougaiji friendship piece, with extra points for an actual smile from Kougaiji.

Yup..we're no longer quite so lost. Back in the right direction for the boys, no more detours.
But, it was a fun ride while it lasted. We got to see the sights, got lost again, and found some more insteresting things. The journey's the best part, or the phrase 'road trip' wouldn't mean so much to anyone of any age. ^_^
Summer's gone, and so is the offical challenge. The good news? We're not closing the community! sychogrl and i discussed it over the weekend. This is now officially another art/fic hub for all fans, and we do have in mind to run another challege. That is...after a nice, lazy, season long break.
So you can post your stories, your art...discuss the series. Post theories on saiyuki plotlines. Questions about ficcing or art? Right here. We dont' expect a lot of 'oh my god that's so hot!' type stuff, that tends to happen in other communties. Same basic ground rules too. But..i think you guys get the idea. Good discussion, even funny ones. After Fork in the Road and its entries, you can't say that this group doesn't have a slightly cracked sense of humor! Which reminds me, those of you that never made the deadline can still post the fic or art here. It's just no longer part of the challenge, officially.
For now, let's enjoy the ride, and see where the journey takes us, eh?

September 20... WHERE did the time go? It amazes me when I sit and think how fast it flies...
Well, unlike the Minekura version of the journey West, this little road trip has come to an end. The Summer Detour Challenge is now officially concluded. Thanks so much to all who participated! ^_^ We had many great works submitted. It was a lot of fun, and I hope to run something like this again, in the future. This great show deserves it, no?
I'll be updating the website sometime soon. Kinda slacked on that one a bit. *hangs head in shame* And aliaswestgate has pretty banners for all the victims participants. Heh heh. I have nothing to offer, sadly, except my gratitude to her and to you all! Weee!

Summary: Post-journey. Goku is having trouble securing "quality time" with Sanzo, and turns to Gojyo and Hakkai for help. When Gojyo suggests a romantic outing to a deserted beach, and gives Goku "dating advice", of course, things don't turn out quite as expected. It IS, Saiyuki, after all.
Notes: Will post this to ff.net after a bit of extra revision. Also: my sincere apologies over the ugly formatting. I tried to fix it, but LJ hates me. It looks just fine in the program I used to write it. >_< I hope it's still readable.
