23rd-Apr-2008 03:36 pm - Biometrics - done! [biometrics, immigration (to uk)]
I promised details as they were going on and here's the latest.

So if you wanna know .... )

I'm not sure if they'll all be this cooperative - it may be that this particular office is a bit smaller than the others. Also, please keep in mind when you go, you must present your appointment confirmation letter and your passport. You shouldn't be asked to present any other documentation, unless you're doing your biometrics at a UK location (embassy/etc). I went to a USCIS office, so the rules may differ there.

But we're almost done. Completely. And I can't wait to see those beautiful visas in my grubby little hands! It will make me realize that I'm that much closer to being with my sweet hubby with my family!!
11th-Apr-2008 11:00 am - Immigration application X 4 = STRESS!! [biometrics, immigration (to uk), visas]
(cross posted on personal journal)

And my fingers feel as if they're going to FALL off my hands! Good grief!

Mine and all three of my boys' immigration applications to the UK as settlement have now been submitted and paid for (ouch) online!

Okay, here's what I did ...

if you're interested )

So as you can see, I'm a wee bit frazzled now. More so than when I first started these applications the other day. For some reason, I thought I'd be able to rest a bit better once I'd submitted them online, but apparently not. I'll admit, I'm freaking out a bit now!

Update: I just spoke to someone (yes, I broke down and paid the $12 - what a ripoff!!) and they told me that we can ALL go the same day (the first appointment) and as long as we 1) have our appointment confirmation printed out from the website, and 2) they can accommodate us, they'll see us all at one time. Wondering is it worth making an earlier trip (before the listed appointment date and time) to see if they won't take us early??

(cross posted on another community)

Okay, I know we have to do it, but I just want to make sure I have it right...

1 - Fill out the application online
2 - Pay the astronomical fees (there's four of us!)
3 - They give us a paper to print out and we make an appointment at our nearest biometric place (in our case, the nearest USCIS office - 2 hours away)
4 - When we get it done, we're given another piece of paper by the office
5 - We send that along with our other supporting documentation off to the British Embassy to get the visa stamps in our passports

Have I missed anything? I just don't want to get started on these applications if I'm missing something ....

Thanks!!
9th-Dec-2007 02:57 pm - biometric data collection [biometrics, passports, travel, visas]
great seal of the united states
My fiancee, [info]soccer_fox, and I are getting married in Edinburgh in January, so (being both US cits), we had to get visas for marriage.

I will spare you my rants on countries who don't provide consulates where their embassies are, who don't provide in-person visa services, and who privatise their visa services so if you want answers to questions then you have to call a fee per minute telephone number (yes, I know that *both* the US and the UK do this--I think it's irresponsible of both of them).

ANYway, I will, as I said, spare you that rant and proceed directly to describing our biometric adventure. skip all of this if you're not interested in the biometric data collection process )
