Can people really sue people for libel/slander for printing/saying that they're gay?
In this age of all embracing tolerance I find that a little hard to swallow. How exactly does that work? "I am straight but here is someone saying that I'm gay... not that I mind, I mean its fine, I have loads of gay friends, and I'm not against it BUT I'M SUEING THE ASS OFF OF THEM FOR DEFAMING MY CHARACTER."
It just seems a little bit like "we tolerate and accept your lot and respect and protect your human rights, but we don't want people thinking we're one of you."
For Gods sake people, get a grip.
I'd love to see how it turned out if I tried to sue someone for spreading that I'm straight... Not that that would ever happen as I'm such a raving nancy..

| Another Colin update |
[Oct. 12th, 2008|11:23 pm] |
I went to see Col this evening, to be there when he came back from his op, which was to put a stent into the tube connecting his kidney and his bladder. All went well, he was a little woozy, but we spent a couple of hours chatting and catching up and all was good. We thought he might be discharged tonight, but as he only had the op around 17:00, and got back to the ward around 19:00, they've kept him in for one more night. He'll be home tomorrow at some point, and should hopefully be up and about pretty soon - he's got no problems with that, and was only feeling a little weak cos he'd been NBM from 22:00 last night to about 20:00 tonight! He got some tea and a sandwich while I was there, which he very much enjoyed.
For those who asked, they have indeed found two kidney stones, one in said tube, and one still in the kidney. They will have to be passed in their own time; the stent just means that there is flow from the right kidney, which is kind of important apparently. The stent should also make the tube a little wider and tougher, or so he's been told. Let's hope it all works out...
I hope this'll be the last of these updates. Thanks again for everyone's well wishes; I relayed them to Col as best I could, but he'll see them properly when he comes home. Thanks also to everyone who visited, phoned or texted, he's really appreciated it. Hospitals are boring, apparently, even if your wife brings you books and newspapers and lends you her DS... Amusingly, aside from the DS, I also gave him the books I'm currently reading (as he'd run out of his this evening), and since I've forgotten my iPod at Benjy's, I am now sans entertainment of any kind! HALP!
Meanwhile, I was under instruction to go out and enjoy my weekend, which I did (well, once I'd got over my guilt...). Benjy, Grace, Denny and I went to the London Zoo yesterday, which was great fun. We saw these:
 Also these:
These didn't really want to know:
And one of these was camp or lame, we decided:

Plus lots of others, but I'm getting tired & insufficiently bothered about Google Image searches. You'll just have to see for yourselves.
Then B & I went for drinks and dinner at M & V's, staggering home on the last train.
Today, I sorted through a huge pile of crap in the bedroom, ably assisted and indeed prevented from faffing by Benjy (aka The AntiFaff). I managed to throw out 2 1/2 big bags of stuff and a whole box of letters, make another bag of things to give away, but mainly, I turned a giant heap into orderly boxes, ready to be sorted through and disposed of. I feel unbelievably accomplished about this. I mean, really extraordinarily good... this could so easily have turned into an awful weekend, but thankfully, it didn't, and getting this task done when it's been hanging over me for so long just feels fantastic.
Right, it's way past my bedtime. I'm starting a new gym regime tomorrow, so I need my zzz's now!

| annual BSG binge |
[Oct. 12th, 2008|10:46 pm] |
Battlestar Galactica season 4 is fantastic. It's tense and intense, and the way they use music in some of the episodes...
Just like last year, I got the box set shortly after it came out, without having seen any of the episodes. I was a little disappointed to see that there are only ten episodes in this one - and that it contains the tv movie Razor, because I thought it was kind of mediocre (and pandering to the traditional sci-fi demographic by showing Six doing a bit of girl-on-girl) so I was unimpressed at having paid for it twice. However, it's all come together properly again, and I've got very little criticism for everything else I've seen so far. I've just seen episode 7 and am now torn between going to sleep now, or staying up half of the night so that I can see how it ends. Ten minutes ago I would probably have said that work can go to frack and I'll watch the rest now, but having walked round the flat a bit, sleepiness is kicking in and I might have to call it a night here.
This is why I don't follow programmes while they're being broadcast the first time round. I can't handle the suspense, and a whole year of anticipation is much easier on my sanity than the months of inter-episode speculation, where I would constantly be wondering what happens next. Yes, watching a whole season in a few marathon bursts is obsessive, but at least this way I can manage the obsession and get it over with in a couple of days. |

| 16 weeks |
[Oct. 12th, 2008|09:48 pm] |
Is it as long as that already? Bloody hell.
At 16 weeks, Esme:
- rolls from side to side to grab things she wants
- responds to noises, like the tv or voices by turning to look in the direction the sound comes from
- chats noisily to her toys or to one of us and also makes high pitched bird like noises as a pre-cursor to crying when she's annoyed. She stops as soon as we start to talk to her or look at her.
- bites me on the nipple if she notices I'm not paying attention when feeding her. As soon as I turn my head back to her she smiles and stops biting. She also bites me if I pick at her ear or cradle cap.
- has perfected the two handed hair grab manoeuvre. She likes to get two big fists of hair or ears and then pull you in so she can slurp your nose. She also head butts people in the face on occasion.
- pulls Orlaith's hair and wraps her arms around Orlaith's upper arm to get her attention. She /loves/ Orlaith.
- can do laps of the lounge room on her back. She's surprisingly speedy for someone so small.
- loves riding in the sling. She peers about everywhere and eventually snuggles into me and falls asleep between my boobs.
- weighs 6.85kgs. She is as big lengthwise as (if not slightly bigger than) her cousin Eddie, who is about 8 months old.
- loves baths and showers. Orlaith absolutely hated them until she was about this age but Esme has loved being in the water right from her first bath. She splashes about every where and swims herself up and down the tub on her back.
Wearing the suit colorwhirl picked up for her in Sweden.

[Oct. 12th, 2008|08:53 pm] |
Some day I'll post a real post again, about actual important things. But not tonight.
Tonight I have two snippets for you.
Jake went to a party last night and the girls and I stayed with his Mum and Dad. He phoned up at about 8pm, Orlaith asked to speak to him and Steve (Jake's Dad) muttered something about telling him not to drink too much. Orlaith marched off with the phone, shaking her index finger and saying over and over again "Don't get drunk, Daddy."
Then later when she was tired and getting all stumbly, Steve asked her how many drinks she'd had, to which she promptly replied "Too many!"
And I'm spent. |

Ooh my last.fm thing is working. I shouldn't be proud that I'm listening to this, but I do love me some Dizzee. I was looking into seeing hm live but he clashes with Mr Izzard, and I've loved Eddie longer than Dizzee. |

| I have the HSM 3 soundtrack! |
[Oct. 12th, 2008|03:48 pm] |
"East High, you're amazing... Good night!"
You know, if this movie is anything like as hilariously awesome and kind of brilliant as the soundtrack, then HSM3 is going to kick some serious ass.
Oh, and Scream? Think Bet On It with a better beginning and ending, but added stupidity in the middle. I can't wait to see Zefron's dance moves for this one. |

[Oct. 12th, 2008|03:03 pm] |
How did this man even get to the point of being in the running for president? If McCain/Palin win, I swear, I'm kidnapping my daughters from the states.
Hate women much, you slimy bastard? You call your wife a cunt in public, you respond to any female who dares to question you like this, and you make rape jokes? No wonder you picked a Pentecostal Assembly of God redneck female for a running mate. A woman who can't comprehend that the very feminism she rages against is the very thing that got her where she is this very moment! Pitbull in lipstick, my ass. Any woman who would associate with a man like this for ANY reason has some serious pyshcological problems.
Political discussions MAKE ME CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| Egg-stacy |
[Oct. 12th, 2008|02:01 pm] |
|
Eggs in total this week: 5 Little brown eggs: 4 Larger speckledy eggs: 1 (double yolk!) So, we each get a fried egg yolk, plus there's three eggs left for a cake. Matching hen with egg is proving difficult. I'm not even sure if we have two or all three laying. I had thought the speckled egg was Flora's, but today I found her sitting on a small brown egg. Speckledy may well be from Miss Daisy, princess of pecking. |
