I'm sure it must be me being thick or overthinking or something, but I hope someone can help me with Coriolis - the heel in particular.

I'm at row 3 of the back of the heel, and am I reading this right? Before removing the markers, I was at 16(marker D)14(marker C)16. If I sl1,k1 10 times, and p 19 times on the return, I'll end up with 8(phantom marker)22(pm)16. It'd be unbalanced, wouldn't it? I'd have a mass of heel to one side of my foot.

I know I've missed something, but I've no idea what that something is. Help?

Sock help [Jul. 19th, 2008|09:27 am]

felishumanus
I am deciding which sock to knit for my next project, but am coming up against a term I don't recognise and can't find a definition on knittinghelp.com for. So I am hoping someone here can explain.

>wrapping the last un-worked stitch on each row.

What do they mean by wrapping the stitch?

I had thought knitty had a pattern as well, which looked like those string expandable bags, like your granny had (or was that just me).

Stumped [Jul. 12th, 2008|12:38 pm]

light_the_sky76
[mood | confused]

I have a pattern for a baby jumper and the for the front section after the 8 rows of ribbing it says to:

P1 *m1, p2 pass m1 over the previous p2, p2 from * to last st, p1

What does it mean by pass m1 over the previous p2?

I make one stitch then pass it over the two pearl stitches I've just done on the right hand needle or pass the made stitch over the pearl stitches from the ribbing on the left hand needle.

Does that make sense?!?

Can anyone clear this up for me please?

Thanks

FO, Chevette from Knitty [Jul. 10th, 2008|01:13 pm]

pennyplainknits
Chevette )

This is Chevette, from the summer issue of Knitty. It was a very quick knit, I actually finished it in a day, knitting on a coach journey. I used Cotton Angora (Debbie Bliss) for the band, and oddments of Colinette Parisienne and Socks that Rock lightweight for the vines and flowers.

It's very cute and pretty, but I think it might have to be unravelled and re-knit. The band was my third attempt, with 3 different yarns (a 100% cotton, Socks that Rock Lightweight, and finally the Cotton Angora). All three bands had the same problem- they curl inward, no matter how severly you block or what fibre you use. The StR was springy, as recommended in the pattern, but I found it made no difference.

I wore the choker yesterday and although it looks cute I spent a lot of time untucking and uncurling it. The only think I can think of is to line it with something like felt or velvet, leaving the ends unlined to button it up. It's a shame as it's a quick, easy and fun project, and they'd make great gifts otherwise.

I'm not in the UK, but I knit and I was brought to this community because I was searching and I saw a post from about a month ago and was wondering if anyone knows how to make the Adipose knitting pattern magically appear in my inbox. I would be insanely grateful.

When sewing zips onto items do you use normal sewing thread, or wool?

A Colinette Question, and some socks. [Jul. 3rd, 2008|04:32 pm]

[mood | curious]

I've just been having a look around the new Colinette website, and I can't find the thing I wanted to buy.

They used to do a 1 kilo grab bag of assorted yarns, all in roughly the same colour family. I've bought several over the past few years, but there's no sign of them on the new website. Does anyone know whether they've been discontinued?

Also, is anyone else knitting the socks from Issue 43 of Simply Knitting?

I've learned Magic Loop especially so I could knit them, and I'm madly in love! I want to knit socks forever!

Silk sock in a passionflower...

I love the cabled cuff on these, and the self-striping yarn is keeping me amused, as I watch to see which colour's coming up next. I'm easily entertained... ;)

Banbury knitting group? [Jul. 2nd, 2008|11:28 pm]

keletubbie
Ok, so I have been looking for a local knitting group. I know that a handful exist in Oxford, but transportation is a bit of an issue for me.

So I'm thinking of setting up a group here in Banbury. By any coincedence, is there any Banbury knitters in this group? Would you be interested in supping coffee with me and likeminded fellows on a regular basis while clicking your needles?

Post here!

Three things [Jun. 7th, 2008|09:41 am]

I knitted an octopus! )
Second, I need to get myself a circular needle set. Am I OK getting this from the first person on eBay who wants to sell me one? Or are there things I should be looking for?

Lastly, I want to start knitting clothes, not least because I am running out of people to make toys for, but it scares me! Can anyone recommend a book of easy to follow patterns for a newbie knitter with lots of DK wool and no kids to knit for?

Thanks!

[Jun. 6th, 2008|09:28 pm]

Neither my LYS or nearest HobbyCraft stock any lace weight yarn, and as i'd love to do some 'proper' lace knitting, i need to get my hands on some.

Can anyone recommend either a shop in the Manchester area that stocks a decent range of lace yarns, or, more likely, a reliable UK based website with the same?

I've tried both The Sew In of Didsbury and Wool in Stockport, and both tell me that so few people want lace weight that it isn't worth stocking it. Neither was willing to order any in for me either. This is A Pain, as i have incredibly sensitive skin and prefer to choose yarn by touch because even things that the average person finds squidgysoft, i find unbearably itchy.

Knitandsew.co.uk Update [Jun. 5th, 2008|10:26 am]

Following on from this post, I ended up ordering from Knit and Sew at 2.30pm on Tuesday. And when I got home from work yesterday (Wednesday), the parcel had arrived already! I am beyond impressed - that's possibly the fastest online shopping experience I have ever had. And at a good price, too!

Doll pattern [Jun. 4th, 2008|04:40 pm]

darth_tigger
I'm wanting to knit a character doll of, and for, a friend of mine (dress it like him, with relevant accessories). Can anyone suggest a suitable, preferably free, pattern for a basic doll pattern? If it had clothes patterns as well that would be extra splendid!

Many thanks!
