    Hi from Scotland
Wow just seems like everyone from Europe is going to Australia.

So yeah I am Smokey, a few of you already know who i am so Hi.  I am coming over to study for a year at QUT, and already have a place lined up on Margaret Street (so if anyone is going out i'll be close by).

My flight arrives 2nd July so I should be able to come to the coffee meet before RivFur.  As for RivFur, hope you like burgers.  I'll bring some along (whatever $20 will get me) and it'll be first come first served.

I'm taking my younger friend with me - also a furry - and we want to say hi to you all and make friends (I think being friendly never hurt anyone... but I can be wrong :P).

So... Hi from Aquilion & Kassi, Poland (not for long :D)

MiDFur Registration Opens This Friday (10/4/09)
    MIDFUR XI
    WHAT: Australia’s furry convention
WHEN: December 3rd to 6th (Thursday to Sunday), 2009
WHERE: Rydges Hotel (186 Exhibition Street, Melbourne, Victoria)
    WEBSITE & FORUMS: http://www.MiDFur.com.au

    ---------
    Hello Brisbane!

Last year MiDFur was transformed from an annual furry meet to a full blown convention with great success. With entertaining guests of honour, a convention hall and over 230 furry attendees to hang out with and meet, MiDFur was most definitely a lot of fun. Come December 2009 we get to do it all over again – but bigger and better.

Everything that made MiDFur fun is being improved and expanded upon. This includes running twice as many events in a better venue where everything is all completely centralised. On top of this standard registration is $40 cheaper than it was last year.

Read on for details on the new convention location, accommodation and – most importantly – how to register for MiDFur XI.

    ACCOMODATION:
MiDFur is an annual Melbourne event that has been running since 1999. When MiDFur became a convention in 2008 it was held at the Victoria Hotel. However, this year MiDFur XI will be held at an even better location: The Rydges Hotel in Melbourne (186 Exhibition Street)

We’ve upgraded from three star accommodation to five star accommodation with Rydges Melbourne. Located in the heart of the city and a ten minute walk from either Parliament Station or Flinders Station, Rydges Melbourne is the sole location of the entire convention. This means that if you have a room at Rydges you can wake up and already be at MiDFur.

We’ve negotiated a MiDFur attendee discount for the five star, two person rooms: $149 per night. This rate applies to both the two single bed rooms and the rooms with one Queen sized bed. To get this rate just mention “MiDFur” when you phone and make a booking. Note that you can only claim this discount with a phone booking.

The phone number is 1300 857 922 when calling from Australia, 0800 446 187 from New Zealand or (+61 2) 9261 4929 for overseas callers.

For more information about Rydges Melbourne, visit their website here:
    http://www.rydges.com/hotel/0/RVMELB/Rydges-Melbourne.htm

    REGISTRATION:
There are limited places, so we encourage people to register as early as possible to secure your spot at MiDFur XI. You can register for MiDFur at the official website: www.MiDFur.com.au

These are the three different types of registration available:

    Standard ($165)
This gives attendees access to all of the main events of the convention. This includes the panels, the dealers den and events such as the Gala Ball.

    Under 18 ($165)

This registration gives under 18 attendees the exact same access as standard registration attendees. Even the Gala Ball will be open to all ages this year. We just ask that those under the age of 18 register as such for legal reasons; namely duty of care and to ensure that under age attendees aren’t drinking.

    Gold Class ($265)
The Super Sponsor registration allows you to attend all of the events at MiDFur, with the added bonus of a dinner event prior to the main part of the Gala Ball, an exclusive t-shirt and an exclusive panel with the guests of honour. Note that the Super Sponsor registration is available for attendees of all ages.

CAN I HAVE A FREE REGISTRATION?
Sure. The 100th person to register will have the nice surprise of finding that their registration is free.

WHAT IF I’M ONLY FREE TO ATTEND MIDFUR FOR ONE DAY?

Then you can purchase a day pass for MiDFur. The prices vary slightly for each day and note that day passes purchased at the door are $5 extra. The prices for pre-registered day passes are as follows:

$50 - Thursday MiDFur day pass
$60 - Friday MiDFur day pass
$40 - Saturday MiDFur day pass
$50 - Sunday MiDFur day pass

    WHEN CAN I REGISTER?
Registration opens this Friday, April 10th, 2009.

The specific times for each area are as follows:

In Victoria, New South Wales, ACT, Queensland and Tasmania:
    Friday, April 10th from 9:00am

In South Australia and the Northern Territory:
    Friday, April 10th from 8:30am

    In Western Australia:
    Friday, April 10th from 7:00am

    MIDFUR POSTER & TRAILER

The theme of the convention is At The Movies. In keeping with this theme we have put together a trailer and are releasing a series of poster designs that have been given the furry treatment.

The latest poster design is based on Watchmen and can be seen here:
    http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2162498/

And here is the MiDFur trailer:

    ---------

MiDFur last year was a fantastic event and we hope that you’ll come along and make it a fantastic event again this year. Because for all the work done in providing an enjoyable location, events and guests – it’s the people who make a convention fun. Should you have any questions or suggestions, you can post on the MiDFur forums found at www.Forums.MiDFur.com.au

    Another newbie
Well I finally decided to take the plunge and actually try to make some fur friends IRL, had to do a bit of digging to find that there actually are organised furs in Brisbane, hurrah.

This is my 4th year living in Brisbane now, it is still as awesome as ever. I'm a student at Griffith Nathan campus doing multimedia.....4th year doing a 3 year course....so slack I am.

Anyways I was wondering what the go was, I am kinda new to this whole thing so if anyone could give me a rundown on what everyone gets upto it would be appreciated very much. :3

    Mardi Gras 2009 - Furovision
    Hi Guys,

I'm calling out around the world, "Are you ready for a brand new beat?"
Summer's here, and the time is right, for dancing in the street!

    I'm sorry. I couldn't help myself.

But it's true, Mardi Gras is just 4 weeks away, and it's time to get
cracking and get you all involved!
The torch has been passed from Dustan and Lupie to myself, and this is
my first time organising the furry float, so bear with me.

This year, the parade's theme is "Nations United", which was a
stumper, but for which we have come up with...

    The Furovision Song Contest!

For those of you who haven't heard, Eurovision is an annual
competition held among active member countries of the European
Broadcasting Union (EBU). The competition launched the careers of
stars such as ABBA and Celine Dion!

Our MASSIVE truck will be decorated as a stage, with sound and
lighting once again provided by Ivan (yay! Go Ivan!), and music being
provided by Jes'ad and Techie Fox (who've been very amused going
through past entries to the competition... like this Ukrainian Drag
    Queen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqvGoVoufaE - I laughed so
    hard!)
Now, we will be providing a Furovision T-Shirt to participants, along
with a confetti launcher tube to be let off at Taylor Square or the
    Bobby Goldsmith Stands.

So now all we need is people to come and be in it! All fursuiters will
be on the back of the truck. After afew years of experience we know
that no-one can survive walking 2kms uphill in a full fursuit without
suffering badly from heat stress. If you really would like to march
you can in a partial suit as long as your eyes won't fog up.
In order to cover costs we will need a 40 dollar contribution from
each participant. If we get forty people, this will cover most of the
    expenses.

ALSO: We will be needing two camerafurs! Preferable one stills and one
video camera, so if you have either, let me know.

Have a look at the 2006/2007 floats here:
    2006 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aSXHZO_wgI
    2007 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4F7jePvFpys

If you can come, please email me directly with your contact details,
and T-Shirt size. Also, please feel free to cross-post this to any
relevant forum you can see that I've missed.

LASTLY: There will be a party after the parade for furs at the
Collosseum (the home of Techie Fox, Yuumei Doragon, Harley Coyote and
myself). complete with High powered air conditioning. Even if you
can't be in the parade, come along to the party!

    Lots of love!

Sign-up begins now - the deadline is one week from today: The 29th of November.

This can either be on the 16th, or the 23rd of December. Please, when you sign up, tell me which date you would prefer.

    Hey There, I'm New
Hey there, in case the big heading didn't give it away I'm new here to the brisfur community. For those of you who don't know me my name's Harrison or Silver as most of my friends in the furry world call me. I live in Launceston, Tasmania (I'll show you my scar if your lucky =D) but moved here around 2 years ago from Toowoomba. Although I moved i still consider myself a Toowoombanian, seeing that I lived there for around 14 years I spent the other 2 in Brisbane =D. Anywayz to make a long story short I joined Livejournal a few weeks ago to post my artworks on and they are available to view in my gallery. Sorry for the small number but they were the only few that really worked out and I deem good enough to post here =D. I plan on whipping up a few more pics and any idea's are welcome. If you do give me one though and I do end up posting it here I will recognise you somewhere wherever I can.

    Halloween Bash!
    Welcome to October!
While the rest of the commercial world might be putting up the Christmas junk, there's one awesomely fun holiday they're skipping - Halloween. This year, October 31st falls on a Friday, which means it's perfectly timed for a party.

Normally skating is scheduled for Friday nights, so we're going to work it all together into one big bash.
Skating starts at Stafford Skate Centre at 7:30pm and goes until 10:30pm. We plan to go skating in our Halloween costumes, providing of course that they're able to be skated in. Admission is $10, and if you need to hire skates or blades it's $2 or $3.50 respectively.

From there, the party will move to The Den in Arana Hills. There shall be drinking, silly Halloween games and playing of the horribly funny board game "Dirty Minds," which is perfect for drunken minds. Costumes are most certainly preferred, but we're not going to force them. It'll just make the night more fun. We might even have prizes for the best ones!

You're welcome to skip skating and just attend the party at The Den. Allowing for travel time between venues, you're welcome to show up any time after 11pm. The party is BYO - sadly we're not rich enough to shout everything. The Skate Centre is family friendly and does not serve alcohol.

Limited crash space is available for anyone who cannot travel home afterwards.
The address for The Den, and public transport information can be provided as well if you don't already have it.
    Hope to see you there!

    RivFur - Confirming Some Things
EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO ATTEND RIVFUR

Registration was preferred to give the organisers an idea of how many people would be attending events. Things like the Friday night BBQ have to be catered for, food-wise, to an extent. Other things like Lasers require numbers to better sort out game teams.
ID cards are a gift - like the chibi badges done for last year. Registering for RivFur allowed you to put your name down to recieve an ID badge. A deadline for this was created because the artists did not want to have to push themsleves right up to D-Day to finish cards for everyone who responded at the last second.
T-shirts are a nice souvenir of the event, but are also not compulsory. Deadlines for shirt orders were because shirts also take time to produce and organise.

Even if you cannot be bothered registering, or your plans are so unorganised that you may just show up randomly on the day, YOU WILL ALWAYS BE WELCOME!

Hopefully this clears up some issues.
    Hope to see you there,

    *Misty

Can I still come to Rivfur ?
I am in Toowoomba and I don't drive, so if I am coming to this event, I need to work some stuff out with my schedule and riding the bus and having a place to stay and all that.  Thus I have not registered for the event yet.  I am still interested in coming, yet I am not sure if I am allowed to now, because I have seen posts on this LJ and other places saying how people who do not register will not be tolerated or something like that.  I know its too late for an ID badge, but I dont really care about having one anyway, or is it a requirement ?
