Uh, hey guys... <.<
I started 4 days late. I know, a bit of a fool right here. I'm 13, I got a High Distinction in the NSW National Writing contest and this is my first time writing an original fic. I do Harry Potter FanFiction too.
My novel will probably be about a girl starting at a prestigious English all-girls academy for the wealthy, and she has problems, finds soloutions, becomes slghtly evil you know... My name on NaNoWriMo is panic4mylove and the novel will most likely be called This Isnt Justice, or something like that. I started today and I've got 2567 words, but I need a kind of beta or buddy. howdy folks! Don't forget that NaNo starts in like 20 odd days or something. So, if you want to take part and haven't visited our regional lounge you're missing out! If you are missing out, I've been posting some "NaNo-PlotMo" questions for folks to get to know their characters and such, here are the ones I've posted so far. 1. Nobody likes a perfect character and everyone who’s lived has some kind of baggage so tell us, how is your main character broken? 2. Within the confines of your story what does your main character want most of all? What are three things that will get in the way of him/her getting it? 3. List at least two people who’ve impacted your main character negatively and why/how. 4. List at least two people who have impacted your main character in a positive way and tell us why and/or how.

Brisbane City Council’s 2007 One Book Many Brisbanes . Write a story about Brisbane and win $6000. It closes December 11th. From the website: "Writing Criteria
The printed anthology of winning entries will have a theme of "Brisbane". (For the purposes of this competition, "Brisbane" is "Brisbane, Queensland" and not any other location that also bears the name of "Brisbane").
Entries must therefore be clearly set in "Brisbane"
* stories may be fictional or non-fictional. * entries must be a minimum of 4000 words and a maximum of 6000 words. * judges may in their absolute discretion reject any story, which the judges consider breaches the Council value of Respect for People."I was thinking this may be a good warm exercise for people to try in October, or even use as inspiration for NaNoWriMo itself. (turn 6000 words into 50000, what what)

Congratulations! If you're reading this it must mean you've survived the worst week in the NaNo month, week 2. No matter what your word count you should feel proud for having perservered through lack of inspiration, procrastination, self doubt and self loathing.
Week two is traditionally the week when most people forget that NaNo is about the experience. It's about challanging yourself to do something that, usually you'd have to wisdom to avoid. It's about getting that novel of yours down on paper, but above all it's about FUN, so don't forget that.
Today I'd like to you to put down your pen, step away from your keyboard and go for a run down the street naked. Okay so maybe not. I'd like you to go out or stay in and do something fun, treat yourself, have a bubble bath, watch your favorite movie, spend time with your kids (alternatively you could always spent time hiding from your kids, whatever floats your boat). Whatever it is that you do have fun doing it. Don't forget that there's a wide world out there beyond the novel writing experience.
Without sounding too corny I'd also like to add that, having read the ML forum and all the problems ML's from other regions are having I think I struck it lucky with you guys. You're a talented bunch of writers (I know, I've read your excerpts), but beyond that you all wonderful people and you make me pleased and proud to have volunteered to be ML this year.

Just a reminder that there's a write in tomorrow at the City Central meeting room/theatrette at 2:30 - 5:30pm. If you're interested in attending you might like to bring some of the following: * Pen and Paper, laptop, PDA or whatever you write with. Though I think you should avoid smoke signals, I'm sure the library frowns upon fires. * Dictionary and thesaurus. * Refreshments - something to share or eat by yourself. * CD player/MP3 player/Walkmen with headphones. * Any reference material, books, your plot, character sheets etc you might need. * Panadol/Asprin/Nurophen etc * Anything else you need. I'll bring an extention cord and powerboard, but as there are two tables it might be helpful if some one else brought a second one. As previously mentioned there will be prizes for the highest word count for handwriters and another for typers. The Map It's not the best but it'll give you an idea of where to go once you've reached the library (I'll ask if I can blue tack a flyer or something to do the door as well). There is a ramp down from the footpath toward the library but I think it's visible from the street. Oh, and the little arrows inside the library are doors you have to go through to get to the meeting room.

If you're coming to this Saturdays meeting and you haven't already signed in on "The Officially Offical Head Count" thread on the NaNoWriMo website I'd really appreciate it if you did. I've also added a map for those who've not used the Central City Library before, it's not the worlds best map but it should give you a decent idea. Thanks folks, hope to see you on Saturday.

Hi. For no reason other than the fact it's already on the Meetup.com calendar, I propose the first Brisbane Nanowrimo social gathering for the 25 October. 7.00pm, Monday Night, 25 October, at Ric's Cafe/Bar in the valley. This is a licenced venue, so my apologies to the underaged members, but the purpose of said gathering is a couple of drinks and a bit of chat to discuss the forthcoming madness. Ric's Cafe is located in the Valley. For details of said event, and a nifty RSVP thingy, follow the Meetup thing in my sig. Or post a follow up.... I would also love to have a Nanowrimo Gathering on Oct 31. Lunch somewhere? Perhaps a morning planning session down at the City Library followed by a lunchtime get together?
