book reviews?

I was kind of thinking, there's alot of books out there on subjects dear to our hearts, and alot of them are hookey. I think it'd be a good idea if we share a little about the brain ninjary books we've come across and help eachother find the gems among the coal?

For starters, here's my two most recent hypnosis reads (neither of which I really recommend):
"Hypnosis for Beginners" - William W. Hewitt
If you truly are a beginner and don't really even know the basics then this is a decent book. It is actually geared towards teaching you to hypnotize other people. It doesn't have a good variety of inductions, but has some good ideas for deepening routines. It's very very slim on describing the how to or why of post-hypnotic suggestions. So if you've got the very basics down then don't waste your time. If you have 0 hours of hypno background then this is at least a step in the right direction.

"Complete Idiots Guide to Hypnosis" - Dr. Roberta Temes
This chick is loaded with bias. I found it hard to get through the narrow mindedness of this book, and the author takes alot of time to be self-congratulatory. This book is aimed entirely at pre-paring yourself to have professional hypnosis session done to you. She all but forbids the reader to attempt hypnosis on anyone but themselves, and has a whole section devoted to horror of stage hypnosis. There are a couple of worksheets to help you design scripts for your self-hypnosis, and a few tips to get a feel for how hypnotizable you are. There are a couple of interesting history stories illustrating the dangers of false memory implants. All in all, a pretty worthless 15 bucks.

I've got basics down for Hypnosis and Lucid dreaming. Right now though it's hypnosis that has me by the stones. Anyways, I'm Chris, and I hope to be a useful member. =)

Hey all... newby ninja here....

I recently purchased "Slim to Thin!" by Shoot from the Hyp, featuring Richard Bandler and thought I'd do a search on him on here... suprised to find this interesting community...

I'm not here to write about my 'battle' to lose weight, because there isn't one really - I've lost 6 stone (84lbs) through cutting down and EXERCISING... so I don't really believe in dieting as such.... And I wanted to *try* something that was going to help motivate me, as I've been getting more lax with working out... I had tried a "Slimming Willpower" CD before finding "Slim to Thin!" and I'm glad to say, I'll be selling the first CD on ebay pretty darn soon... because Shoot from the Hyp productions is so much more fun.

Whether the 'trance like state' is actually working is still being questioned, but I've felt more motivated and confident since I started listening to the CD. It is fun... and Richard Bandler's voice is...well, a little weird at first and it made me giggle loads, especially when there are female orgasmic noises coming (*ahem*) at you from all different directions in your Sennheiser earphones.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and all... has anyone else tried out the CDs?

Even if they don't work, they do make you feel all giggly and fun inside.

The Philosophy Of Becoming Human,

There are two parts to being human- objectivity and subjectivity. Both are useful. Subjectivity is the introverted analytical process of a student of objectivity. Objectivity is the extroverted output of an introverted perspective. Neither are bound by these guidelines.
Becoming human is a task that we must all undertake. We are born with a blank page, the paper being our genetic construct, and the words thereafter being what we perceive. As we grow, the paper gets filled quicker than one can account for analytically, and even the intuitive masters of chaos have difficulty with their control tactics.
We must trust ourselves by studying the paper after it has been filled, and by filing that paper in the proper compartment. A lack of organization can be deconstructive to the overall output, though minor inefficiencies are often too far under the radar to notice. Filing a paper in the proper compartment can release a person from the eternal struggle-by being organized, one can handle more papers and the flow will begin to normalize.
After we learn by receiving objectively and ordering subjectively, we have the opportunity to re-output information at any rate we choose. Outputting information is more difficult than inputting information, but is a more effective means to learning when one is in the presence of those who know more. When a person is in the presence of those who do not know, or those who for some reason seek to manipulate, it is wise to develop a protocol for any given interaction.
There are absolute protocols that may be followed. There are protocols that can be lesser priorities, though all should be equal to each other given lack of time constraints. For instance, one must be proper at all times. One never knows when their judgment is lacking, and should always be perceiving even when making temporary judgments. Judgments should always be temporary, as a means of communication, but when not communicating judgments should be non-existent.
Once a person becomes aware that there are a variety of protocol at their disposal, and that there are a plethora of priority levels to choose from, they begin to realize that they can decompartmentalize information and release the flow to a suitable level. A higher flow necessitates a larger amount of energy, and a consistent and efficient usage of that energy. This stage of development can be described as machining.
A person constructs a full cycle of thought, one which assimilates energy and outputs energy at the same rate, and then uses that cycle to perform routine tasks. Non-routine tasks need further consideration, and usually require an addition to the cycle, or a construct of an adjacent machine. Running dual processes more than halves efficiency, but it can be done if necessary.
To maximize efficiency, one should construct a single cycle, and not rely on multiple cycles- which can heavily detriment the efficiency of the thought process. Once developed, a person should complete the cycle by implementing a self-checking protocol which analyzes the flow as it is cycled. Such an analytical process becomes the definition of objectivity, and the flow of the cycle remains the subjective. As I have said, both are required. One for doing, and one for checking what is done. It is by this reasoning that objectivity and subjectivity must combine to complete a whole algorithm of thought. Claims made that either one or the other should take precedence should not be made. Logically, both should be harmonious.

Would you like to feel really happy with your body? Are you unable to lose those last 10 pounds? Are you a late-night snacker? Do you find it difficult to say no to second helpings? Do you get disheartened about your eating habits and your weight? Then this amazing book and CD can help you! Welcome to a revolutionary new way to stop overeating, control cravings and feel totally motivated to take exercise. Paul McKenna has developed a breakthrough weight-loss system that re-patterns your thoughts, attitudes and beliefs about yourself, your health and food to help you easily get control of your diet and lose weight permanently. As you use Paul?s system, psychological techniques will automatically help you start losing weight straight away! You can use it again and again to make you feel happier about yourself as you go all the way to your ideal shape, size and weight."

any thoughts or sugestions would be helpfull?

(oh and my mind is pretty untrained so would it also be useless on someone who has trouble sticking to things??)

cheers

xDondonsx

Hello all...been trying to work out how to join for ages! So now I say hello. One of my life ambitions is to be hypnotised anyone done it before and anyone know how to do it? Here is my first contribution might tell you something about what your dreams mean. Quoted from 'The Little Book of Dreams'.

At the time when we dream most vividly our muscles are paralysed. This may explain why in some dreams we are unable to run away from a frightning pursuer.

We dream in an 'anniversary' fashion, that is we dream similar dreams at similar times in our lives.

Recurring dreams can often mean that the dreamer has not understood the underlying message.

Dreams of losing teeth represent a lack of self esteem. Loss of your front teeth represent insecurities about the way you represent your self to others.

Dreaming of a house alarm going off may mean some member of your family needs some help or protection at this time.

Have you ever had a particular vivid dream about a relative or close friend? Perhaps the person was dead and reappeared? These dreams are called visitation dreams and represent a strong emotional bond with the person.

Good stuff eh? I have much more dreamy goodness for you all!

Parssta x

Just joined up, so I thought I'd say hello... Maybe toss out a peace offering?

Just finished reading Derren Brown's Pure Effect... If you like psychological illusions, mentalism, and borderline confidence schemes, I -highly- recommend the book. Might I ask, however, if anyone has any suggestions on good books on Neuro-Linguistic Programming? Thanks much, and hope to hear more from this group :D It promises to be interesting.

-Shinken

Whenever someone says something 'pops' into their heads I get suspicious.
It often means your subconcious has picked up on something that you consciously haven't.

Me and a friend were standing in a queue in blockbusters last weekend and two girls in front of us were talking about picking lottery numbers. One said "2!" to which the other replied "Why 2?". "I don't know, it just popped into my head and I can't get rid of it!". Suddenly I start glancing around like a vietnamese kid looking for snipers.

I realised that I was completely surrounded by about a dozen luminous pink Haagen Daaz promotion signs shouting in big-bold letters: "2 FOR £2!" twice on each sign.

This made me chuckle.
