ISO Anaconda...?
I haven't smelled Anaconda, the extremely LE Snake Pit "addition" that only came as a sample imp vial if you bought the whole Snake Pit Collection, but this is per [info]topknot:

Layer 1 part Snake Oil and 1 part Miskatonic University.

Note that [info]topknot has only worn the ORIGINAL Miskatonic University, but many people think if you age the new GC Miskatonic University for a bit, the scent will mellow out to be more like the original.

Don't layer these directly, because the Snake Oil will overpower the Misk U. Dab them side by side.

Wanting to find a good dub for Lughnasad
...Anyone have any good ideas on this?

I have two imps of "Lughnasad"--one of which I am relatively certain is a fake. The other was given to me as a 'real' one, but I don't know for sure.

I love BOTH of them, and I'd like to try to recreate some semblance of the scent.

I found by accident...
I was decanting some Enraged Orangutan Musk, then decanting some Vanilla SN (not BPAL).
Poof! I got Snake Oil! Uh-oh, should I be sharing the secret recipe?
Well, not exactly, Snake Oil has one other sugary note. But I swear it smells close.
I'm happy cuz I don't like my Enraged Orangutan Musk, but I like Snake Oil.

2 wrongs do make a right!
I got my Saw Scaled Viper. Ick. Dry, dusty, durrrty smell.
I got my Body Shop Brandied Apple. Ick. Sickeningly sweet tart smell.

I layered the Brandied Apple over the Saw Scaled... poof! LOVE LOVE LOVE.
OMG.. can't stop sniffing my arm.
spicy apple cider.

Holiday Moon
I just got Holiday Moon and it smells like an orange single note. Grrr...
But not all is lost... I like the smell of oranges, I'm just going to have to get creative.
Anyone have any suggestions how to spice it up? Cloves, cinnamon, honey?
Is there a scent that would layer beautifully with SN Orange?
Thanks.

The other day, I discovered quite by accident that Lycaeon and Devil's Night (2006) layer gorgeously together.

In the elevator about 30 minutes after this discovery, I got quite an enthusiastic compliment from a man I'd never met before regarding how wonderful I smelled.

Try it. You might like it!

Of course, it doesn't help that they're both LEs, but at least they're recent LEs.

La Fee Verte?
OK, I loooove LFV, but I've given up on trying to buy it. Does anyone have any idea how I can create it using GC scents?

LFV's description:
Sugared wormwood, hyssop and melissa with calamus, angelica and Dittany of Crete, blended with a Bohemian perfume of vanilla musk, honey absolute and Moroccan spices.

My first thought was to use Absinthe as a base, but I don't lke the anise in it.

When ISO: LE Hexennacht
I have not tried this one, but it was cited some months back by someone else.

LE Hexennacht is very close to layering Tisiphone with Anathema.

One of my favorite layering combos is Snow White and Mid-Winter's Eve.

Problem is, they're both LEs and I don't have much Snow White left, and honestly, I don't wear it enough to warrant trying to track down, and then pay for, a bottle of it.

However, I found that The Lantern Ghost of Oiwa (Salon, Exhibit II) is very similar to Snow White (although even similar to Snow-Flakes since it has that tiny touch of mint).

What's a GC that could approximate Mid-Winter's Eve? I imagine I can get a scent that's similar in the berry-feel with something like Glasgow or Jester, but it most definitely wouldn't be the *same*.

Suggestions?

When ISO and Recommended: LE Honey Moon and LE Beltane 2005
LE Honey Moon layers GORGEOUSLY with LE Beltane 2005. (Note the year) It's like a dewy warm dawn on May Day.

However, these are also both LEs. Any suggestions on GCs that would come close to either of these blends?

When ISO: The Living Flame
I have NO IDEA how to start on this one, but this is what I wear all the time, so I'd dearly like to come up with a readily-available substitute when I run out of the LE version.

Any ideas?

Once we figure out how to approximate this scent by layering, we can crack the LE Queen of Spades, too.

When ISO: Queen of Spades (and perhaps the King?)
I'm still working on this one.

I found I could get VERY CLOSE by layering these scents:

BPAL Bordello
BPAL O
BPAL Glasgow
LE BPAL The Living Flame

Aye, but that's the rub: The Living Flame is yet another LE.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to come closer? Perhaps another "When ISO:" just for The Living Flame? *laughs*

I think the King of Spades could be approximated by duping the above and possibly adding a little BPAL Obatala to the mix on your skin.

WELCOME!!
BPAL Layering was created for those of us who want to try to recreate the scent of a now-discontinued Limited Edition BPAL scent using General Catalogue scents and possibly the occasional Single Note scents from other suppliers.

This is ALSO the appropriate place to make recommendations on OTHER layerings you've tried in the past that work really well.

BPAL Layering is not affililated in any way with the Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab other than we are breathless followers of the magic that Beth and the Lab create.

ONE RULE: Beth has said in the past that she does not condone or appreciate people remixing or reblending her oils. We will not do that here. What we are advocating is finding various combinations of GCs and possibly more readily-available perfume oils from other suppliers that can approximate rare, discontinued LE BPAL blends WHEN LAYERED ON THE SKIN.

Please do not suggest anyone reblend any BPAL within this community.

With that, welcome and I hope you have fun things to share!
