Sorry for the entirely unintentional posting hiatus, folks. The main reason I held off on getting a Tumblr was this exact reason, actually; I predicted my attention wouldn't divide too well between the two different outlets.
Anyway, I'll make a more substantial post later on. Not sure when, but for the moment all I really care about is that Penumbra has finally posted Fathoms Five and I'm immersed in it (almost done with part three!), and won't go to bed until I'm finished.
For the moment I'll only say this; it's the best fic authors and no others who can sell me on canon interpretations that I dislike or even hate. In this case, it's Scully's debatable mortality. (Anjou did the same for me and my crotchety feelings in regard to Mulder ever having been married, though I can't remember now which story of hers that was; I feel like it was from a series that I didn't realize was unfinished until too late, and then felt all disturbed about.)
It's not funny and I shouldn't laugh but dammit apropos of everything someone dies in a vat of chocolate the day I start rereading Thief of Time? What are the odds.
Oh hello. It is good to be back home and doing nothing (like a big lazy). Connecticut was a bit of a snorefest, except on the 4th! Here is why:
• FUCK TREES I CLIMB BUOYS MOTHERFUCKERS Flisttttt I am severely disappointed in you. Only one person got the joke. It was some sort of whaling boat, I think? • Subfest. I was also in a submarine (USS Nautilus)! It was pretty dang cool. The fourth of July weekend is the only time that the New London Naval Base is open to civilians. There was a little carnival going on, and fireworks, but we missed it on account of the fact that the parking lots were completely full. So... • ...We headed off somewhere to East Bumblefuck, and ended up with a bunch of drunk rednecks shooting off fireworks in the middle of the street and in the river! It was the best display of Awesome™ I have ever seen.
CLICK ME I'M A SHARK I'M A SUBMARINE WHAT THE HELL AM I AWESOME THAT'S WHAT I AM WHY HAVEN'T YOU CLICKED ME YET
Check out these delightful comments from EJ, aged 9.5:
Faery Rebels is a great book. It is about a faery named Knife. She does most of the stuff, well, wrong. Instead of a wooden knife she uses a metal knife. She is very cool. My favorite character is Campion because she is a librarian, she loves books.
I recommend this book for people who like fantasy, fighting, and love.
Yay, Campion can has fans! But really it's "She does most of the stuff, well, wrong" that tickled me.

I used to love this song when it got played on Premier Radio a lot back in the late '90s or thereabouts. Never managed to track down a copy. Kinda hoping I will soon, although it doesn't seem to be on iTunes. Meh. At least I now know what album it's on.
Saturday - Left for HH. I drove the night shift playing Keane and chair dancing.
Sunday - Arrived around 6AM. Napped. Was mutinied. Eventually geebs picked us up and we were in the timeshare. The night ended in moodysweetie's place where we chatted, they drank...
Monday - Tita Neng and durlxnemesis's bdays. Uh... Went Kayaking. Was fun, even when geebs fell in. I was in fraking pain... Everyone else didn't feel it till the next day. Anyway, sparkyboy kept trying to beat me and the boys kept fooling around trying to turn my kayak around. Anyway, didn't do much else till dinner. Crazy Crab. Harbour Town.
Oh and my MP3 player died. I thought I got salt water in it... But opening it up, I think something exploded. Plus when I doused it in alcohol, I completely killed it.
Tuesday - Rained all day. We were supposed to go to Tanger... So no swimming, no shopping... Till I had a hissy fit and said what's the point!?! Changing back into my jammy jams. Ended up going to the mall at Shelter Cove. Went to Claire's and bought a keyboard belt. :)
Bought a new MP3 player. Same brand. Hate that it has an ultra small screen. Plus... I can't seem to get the vol as loud as I like. :(
Wednesday - Finally went to Tanger. Bought a boat load of stuff and... Am semi-regretting it, but know I need it. 2 new pairs of scrubs and a top to go with my black pants. Then bras. Bought some colorful "converse" and a yellow flannel shirt I could have sworn Jesse wore in some pic.
Random notes:
OMG!!! We walked into Taco Bell in DC and who do I hear!?! KEANE!!! Spiralling!!!
Went to Church Sat night. OMG! It was so distracting! What was up with the priest!?! During the consecration he was emphasizing like every other word, taking long pauses... At one point he was talking into the chalice. I couldn't help but laugh. 7500centfish too! 7500centfish said she's seen him before and he's never been like that.
Apparently I'm color blind... All I'm seeing Jesse in is a blue flannel...
God... I want to sing.
God... Why is Tim so hot???
ZOMG! So we stopped by Barnes and Nobles... Freaking BBC DVDs galore! And 10% off. I was eyeing Father Ted... But considering I spent tons today. :(
One of my weekly rituals is my Tuesday night basketball game in Manhattan. I live in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, so to get to the game in the Lower East Side, I switch at Atlantic Avenue to either the B or the Q. The B takes me to Grand Street, where I walk to the game; or the Q takes me to Canal, where I switch to the M to Essex. But that's neither here nor there. (Sorry, bad pun.)
Usually, during the B/Q leg, my head's buried in a book or my iPod, but the other day, in the section of tunnel right before the train emerged from the Dekalb station into the open air of the Manhattan Bridge, I was idly glancing out the window... and I saw the coolest thing! Flickering by against a background of bright white was what I took to be a complex graffiti mural, something like you used to see in abandoned stations but rarely see in the subways any more. But as I watched the images unfold I realized this was much more than a long string of graffiti. The images moved, morphed, danced, and, at the end, took off in a rocketship! Here's what it looked like:
(Don't you love the running commentary?) I did a little Googling and quickly discovered this is a newly restored piece of urban art by Bill Brand called "Masstransiscope". It's actually a zoetrope — individual paintings (in this case, 228 of them) separated by slits and "animated" by the moving train. Really ingenious — and a technique only over 100 years old, ya big dunce! (It also turns out the art was painted in an abandoned station, "Myrtle Avenue," no longer serviced by the MTA...)
So next time you're on the Manhattan-bound B or Q, leaving the Dekalb station, keep looking out the right side of the train: you're in a free Big Apple cartoon treat.
Am watching the repeat of Sunday's Top Gear and rather loving James May's feigned ignorance of t'interwebs. YouBook and FaceTube? Y'never know, they could catch on...
