Tintin and the Hidden branch, Chapter 1

The morning was jubilant and sunny and the cobblestones glittered beneath Tintin's feet as he trotted across the street to the farmer's market. Snowy followed and chided, "And what's this big hurry about?!"
Tintin only grinned. "You'll see! I hope there's still some left!" They skidded to a stop in front of a cart and Tintin let out a delighted laugh. "Oh, they're here!" He gleefully lifted Snowy to look.
"Strawberries?! You ran like a cat with its tail on fire for THIS?!"
"I'll take a pound and a half of the biggest ones you have! Please."
The merchant smiled beneath his mustache. "Big fan of strawberries, son?"
"Oh, yes! They're hardly even in season! I got up early just to buy some." He set Snowy down and fiddled with his wallet. The dog huffed.
"At least you're pampering yourself for a change."
"Even I get to enjoy life's little pleasures, Snowy."

As the boy kicked up his feet at home, he eagerly yanked open the bag, his nose twitching at the abundant scent of the berries. He picked one out and studied it a moment, batting his eyelashes.
"They look sooooo good."
Snowy curled up next to her master, unimpressed. "Gimme a big fat bone any day. Fruit's not my thing."
"None for you? Oh well! More for me!" His teeth sank into the ripe flesh and sweet, tangy nectar washed over his tongue as his eyes closed dreamily. He sucked the bitten off piece from the rest of the berry and licked his lips as they drew into a satisfyed smile while he chewed.
"Mmmpherfeck."
Three or four strawberries later, there came a knock at the door. He peered at the peephole on tiptoe, seeing two suavely suite men with slicked-down black hair.
"Hm. Visitors." He opened the door and asked pleasantly, "Hello?"
"You are Tintin, correct?" Said the slightly taller man, stonefaced. He had a thick, elegant accent Tintin couldn't quite place but knew he had heard before.
"I am. How may I help you gentlemen?"
"We are here on behalf of the nation on Syldavia," began the other man, opening a wallet with a very grand and fancy badge gleaming beneath the hallway's light, "and have been ordered to accompany you to the palace at your earliest convenience."
Tintin and Snowy blinked at eachother and he backed away from the door, motioning for the two to enter. "Is something wrong? Please, come in."
"Yes and no." Said the first man as they seated themselves on Tintin's sofa, the boy and his dog sitting on the nearby chair, "You see, his Imperial Highness requests an audience with you, and it is a matter of international importance."
"Oh!" Tintin gasped softly, concern growing within him. "Is His Majesty alright?"
"He is in no danger, sir. However, he would not divulge the matter. He said only that is was a matter of dire secrecy."
"Hm. Summoned by the king of Syldavia. it sounds terribly exciting." Snowy could see Tintin's inner ten-year-old boy getting curious. "I can leave tomorrow morning."
"Excellent. We were told that time was of the essence." The taller man stated as he handed the boy a business card with sophisticated-looking gold scrollwork and an address, as well as the royal seal of Syldavia. "Come to this address when you are ready. Everything is prepared and you will travel in the palace's personal jetliner."
The two stood to leave and handshakes were exchanged. "Thank you for your time." said the shorter man. as the door closed. The two got into a sleek black sedan waiting by the building's entrance and the shorter man scratched his head. "It was very difficult not bowing to him, Arnold."
"Luckily you held back. otherwise he would have gotten too excited and things would get messy. Trust me, it's best His Highness not find out until he's there."
"Of course... but I could see it in his eyes! He has... their eyes."
"I saw it too, Ilya. He will know soon enough and everything will come to fruition."
"It will be a very exciting time, indeed."

"Well, time to do laundry..." said Tintin, closing his bag of strawberries and putting it in the fridge, "I have a feeling I'll need more than a few clean shirts."
Snowy yapped and her tail wagged a mile a minute. "Finally some real excitement!"

Wow... that's good! You're a good writer! I like the insane mystery that the Syldavians talk about that will drive me nuts until you update.
