Aparently this little chappy has been cast as Tintin.  Ok so I only read this on the 'Don't Let Dreamworks Ruin Tintin' facebook group (they got it from comingsoon.net) but I'm pretty happy with this casting.  I think give him a few years and he'll make a fabulous tintin!  What do you guys think?

I think it's weird as hell that he got cast as Tintin. Apparently he's 17 but he looks 8 years old to me.

well tintint's pretty ageless. but bear in mind the picture of Thomas Sangster is from 2006 so he was 15 there. plus the film's not going to be filmed, I assume, for a few years so i reckon he'll be about 20 by then PLUS it's not live action anyway!

He is very sweet 'n' young looking right now though!

Oh god no, he can't be younger than me! I always thought Tintin would be in his early twenties.

Same here! Reading the comics as a kid I always just assumed he was fresh out of some university.

I had no idea Thomas Sangster was 17. I saw his episode in Doctor Who S3 (2007) and he looks 10-12...even though I believe his character is 16 since he gets drafted into the military? (the episode he was in dealt with WWI or II I think)

Mind, I had the impression that Tintin was 18-20+. Especially if you've seen the 60s movies, he looks about that age (I think the actor at the time was 17-18). Can't remember though if since Love Actually or the two episodes of DW, if Sangster's voice has deepened.

Let's see how this goes. :) (Who knows, the Wiki article says that he's been cast in the movie but NOT as Tintin--he could just be that all-important secondary character kid who helps out Tintin et al)

EDIT: Although, by the time filming would start he would be 18, and when the series finishes, he'd be about 20 or so? No?

He's a cute little whatsit, but the movies are purported to be CG, so it doesn't hold much water with me unless they mean voice acting. We'll see. I've heard a thousand different stories as to who's supposedly being cast...

The movie is going to be CG, yes, but they're going to use motion-capture on the actors much like they did in Beowulf. So the CG characters will actually look like the actors themselves.

Oh lord. I'm on the side of that Facebook group. I'll stick with the '90s cartoons, thanks.

Really? They followed the plot of comics (albeit somewhat abridged) and the animation didn't deviate from Hergé's style. Quite offensive, indeed.

ha ha! yeah I read all the books. I never really watched the cartoons as a child. the animation is very true to herge's style but it was the charecters that upset me. Tintin was all "hey snowy lets go have an adventure" ugh, no! it was far to americanised and peppy for my liking!!!

i loved the stage adaptation on tintin in tibet, that was fantastic. really got the feeling right and i loved the portrayl of snowy! it was perfection!

Americanised? Well, it was produced and animated by a Canadian company, if that's what you mean. All I can think is that, since the cartoons were adapted for a younger audience and broadcast worldwide, they'd be less off-colour or pointedly ethnocentric (as the comics often tended to be).

But even the comics were about adventures and transnational camaraderie, I think. Hergé used all of it to deliver some keen sociopolitical commentary.

i think there's just two different camps of tintin fans. the books and the cartoon.

i am aware that it was a canadian company which did the cartoons. I just found they didn't meld with the impressions I'd got from the books. the charecters seemed a little off and accent/voices jarred!

right anyway my dear I'm off out to enjoy the rare sunshine! ta ra!

The original story appeared in the Daily Mail but is totally unconfirmed. Could be genuine, could be the reporting of gullible journalist.

Tintin Movie has the full details.

Personally I think he would make a good Tintin.
