| About: | I am interested in starting a network of women who are involved in boxing and grappling to discuss training and techniques and to offer a community where we can offer support to each other. Interests include: bjj, boxing, grappling, mma, sambo, etc. ================================================ Hi all, this community is for women who train or compete in boxing or in grappling arts(wrestling, sub. grappling, BJJ, Sambo, etc). I wanted to provide a place where we can all exchange ideas, training tips and techniques, and offer support to one another. My own training background started in boxing which that prompted me to explore other fighting styles such as Muay Thai, Kali/Silat, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (as well as other submission grappling styles). I have been fortunate enough to meet and train under quite a few talented people along the way and I have also been fortunate enough to personally know the following women : Kathy Long, Lucia Rijker and Leka Vieira. Their fierce dedication to their sports never cease to amaze me. Those who would only see their gender are stunned into shocked acceptance of their talents once they see their skill and gameness displayed in the ring or on the mat. I have trained both in co-ed classes and in all women classes and I cannot stress the importance of training in both environments. Training with women only opened my eyes as to how different it is when you're dealing with someone that HAS to depend on technique instead of strength and weight advantage, as with men. There is nothing more inspiring than having a 98 pound girl out maneuver others who outweigh her by 20 pounds or more. anyway, I hope we can all be friends and exchange some good info over time.
