Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
hey all.
I'm sure some of you remember me from waaay long ago, and asked about sending my daughter to live with my folks while I finished up schooling...
here are some pics

Well, the six months is up, and she's moving back in with us next week, in Norfolk, VA.
She is doing great, and still recognizes me, contrary to some popular beliefs.

So, I ask you again, booju, would you do it?

Seeings how your username is the karen show and you just expressed yourself that way, I think many might label you as self centered and opinionated.

I also don't understand how not wanting to leave your child in the care of others for 6 months is either of those things. Not everyone thinks financial security trumps all. Some believe that "a better life" is constituted by all sorts of other things.

I don't know what I would do. I don't know about your situation or your role in the military. In general, no, I don't think that I would leave my daughter to "go to school." But if I were a nuclear technician, maybe I would have to.

I would personally do everything to avoid having to do it (and I'm sure you did), but I certainly see your circumstances as extenuating and I understand why you felt you had to. I'm sure that being in a stable home with a loving set of grandparents was better for her than continuous daycare.

My husband is in the military, so that probably helps with my perspective.

Congrats on finishing school. What were you training for?

People have kids when they're not always ready... I am. My pregnancy wasn't planned - I would have gone back to school, but I'll have to see what the future brings. However -- I don't know your military history, or where you were in your life when you got pregnant.. but if finishing school for you will help you provide a better life for your daughter, and if you were able to visit her a time or two a month while she was gone just so she knew who you were.. then good for you. I personally don't know if I could do it - but knowing that 6 months of what I HAD to do will bring me several years of bliss... I would probably have taken that initiative. I'm glad things are back to normal. The separation anxiety may be a little difficult for your child so don't shrug that off just yet.
