Pumping for others...

  • May. 30th, 2008 at 12:16 PM
I have been asked to pump for someone who just adopted a 2 mionth old who she claims is allergic to formula. My hesitation stems from the fact that while this mama is willing to buy my a double electic from ebay, I am just feeling a bit uneasy that she's asking for this huge time commitment without compensation and while I would pump for a friend at the drop of a hat I'm talking to a total stranger her and am somewhat suspicious of someone who is asking for my milk without asking me any questions re: health, substance use, medications, etc. and who has ignored my question of what the baby is currently eating... also I am waiting to hear back from her WHAT the baby is allergic to (soy? dairy? both?)
Am I just being suspicious?
I've pumped for an adopted baby of a friend in the past, but this is feeling different... and with online communication it's harder to get a good read of the situation.
Feedback?

You were just randomly solicited to pump for her?

I'd be really suspicious of anyone who didn't ask the types of questions you indicated, especially given the baby's history of "allergy to formula"

I've donated through milkshare, but it's been at my instigation and only after correspondence with the recipients and health clearances are a big concern.

I say trust your gut.

She posted to a community I'm on (at cafemom) asking for local moms who might pump for her... I agree that the fact that she (if it even is a she!) hasn't asked any medical questions is odd... and naive me I didn't even think of the "icky-creepy" factor for like 3 days! Now I'm thinking icky-creepy and things like "no insurance for a prescription for the milk bank" are sounding more suspicious!

Oh, dear. Which community? I'm on most of hte breastfeeding boards on cafemom.

Report her there. Get her booted. I have a feeling it's not a HER.

OK this is probably going to sound funny, but I'm not sure how this person found you or how much you know about her - are you sure it's really a mom with a baby? Have you talked to her on the phone or is this all just via email?

I'd be REALLY suspicious too.
The ick-factor is too high on this one to not be. How could someone not ask some very basic questions about your health and at least acknowledge what a commitment it would be for someone?
I shudder to think what some perv might be up to with this one.....

OK maybe just a coincidence but my current milk donor gave milk to someone named "Kelly" who turned out to be a guy with a milk fetish :/

Yeah, actually the last weirdo thing I had online regarding milk was in like 2002 and the guy also used a name like kelly... i think it's the same predator!
