Tutorial 004

Hiya! This tutorial was requested by [info]sternchenmary and although it's for this base, it works well with most bases and more examples of this colouring are in this post.

I hope this is helpful. Remember not to copy this exactly, alterations to the opacities of layers and the number of screen layers will make a big difference depending on the base image used.

EDIT: It doesn't work very well like this, but if you put the different sections in different boxes, like so:

"I do the first screen layers in one box thing
Then Copy All and Paste it in a new 100x 100 box and do all the colouring to it and Copy All and Paste it back into the original box, set it to Softlight
Then go back and delete the original screen layers."

Then it seems to work. This is for the last part and makes it easier to do the colouring for large batches etc.

Sorry for any confusion

Oh, maybe I wrote it wrong, hang on... I think it's because I do it in seperate boxes.

I do the first screen layers in one box thing
Then Copy All and Paste it in a new 100x 100 box and do all the colouring to it and Copy All and Paste it back into the original box, set it to Softlight
Then go back and delete the original screen layers.

That seems to work. I hope that makes sense, I can't think of a way to describe where you make the icon other than a 'box' so I hope that's ok

may i ask what you are "setting to soft light" in this senario? i'm lost :(

so you have the original image + 4 screen layers in one box and then you copy all five layers into a 2nd box, place those layers of color above them, flatten the image down to one layer and then copy it (the new flattened layer that used to be the 5 image layers and 6 color layers) back into the original box? above the 5 layers that are still there from before (so you have the one flattened layer and 5 image layers from before?) and then are you setting this new flattened layer to soft light?

hee...i really want to make this work because the coloring is awesome! i'm just lost on the wording :(

or do you

Sorry that my wording is a bit confusing...

Umm yeah, you set the flattened layers from the second box with the colouring on soft light on top of all the orginal un flattened layers in the first box, then you delete 2 of the screen layers in the first box. So it looks like:

First Box:
-Screen x4
-Base

Second box:
-Various Layers of colouring
-Copy all and Pasted version of base from other box

Back to the first box-
- Merged, copied version of all in the second box set on softlight
-Screen x2
-Base

I hope that makes more sense... =S

Umm, I tried to explain a way how to maybe alter that to [info]sternchenmary that I hope makes sense

I do the icon in seperate box things, so I don't get confused:

"I do the first screen layers in one box thing
Then Copy All and Paste it in a new 100x 100 box and do all the colouring to it and Copy All and Paste it back into the original box, set it to Softlight
Then go back and delete the original screen layers.

That seems to work. I hope that makes sense, I can't think of a way to describe where you make the icon other than a 'box' so I hope that's ok"
