bnicontest! This is a Brand New icontest community. We made it because we couldn't find any other icontest communities for Brand New.
Summary:
You may be asking yourself, "Self, what IS an icontest?" Well, it's a quite simple concept. Each week, we provide either a photo or a lyric (Brand New, of course) and you, the spunky little person that you are, make an icon out of it. At the end of the week, all the members get to vote on the icons to determine whose is the best.
Basic Rules:
& Only mods have posting access. We did this so that we can keep the community on topic and not have a rating community promotion every day.
& DO NOT STEAL THE ICONS YOU SEE HERE. This means don't save it to your computer, or copy the url, and upload it as your icon. Once the winners of each contest are announced, their name is released with the icon. Once you see their name, you may contact them and ask if you can use it. If they say no, suck it up and make a request for a similar icon in an icon request community (likeartificialicons or brand_new_icons). Still not sure who made the icon you want to use? & In order to participate in the community, you must join and add it to your friends list. We did this to cut down on people stealing icons.
Icon Guidelines:
& When a picture is posted, you may use that picture and ONLY that picture. You may add text and animation/effects, but you MAY NOT add other pictures.
& The same goes for lyrics. When a lyric is posted, you may use that lyric and ONLY that lyric. You may add pictures and animation/effects, but you MAY NOT add other words or lyrics EXCEPT "Brand New" because that's the band's name!
& The icon MUST fit LJ standards, meaning it must be 100x100 pixles (or less) and it must be less than 40K.
& The icon MUST be new and made for the contest. You may not use an icon made previously unless no one else has seen it and it isn't posted anywhere else. Don't post the icon in anywhere else (including your personal journal) until AFTER the contest.
Additional Information (subject to change):
& The actual contest will run from Monday thru Friday. On Saturday, we will post the winner. On Sunday, the next lyric or picture will be posted.
& To submit your icon, you must post it in the correct entry. This entry will be titled "::Contest ##" or something along those lines (if you're unsure of where this post is, check the "This Week's Contest" part of the userinfo). All of the comments will be screened on that entry. It will be made by one of the mods.
& By submitting an icon, you are giving us the okay to use your icon in the community's gallery (which means you're allowing us to guide people to you if they wish to use your icons). You are also giving the okay for anyone (that is a member of this community) to use the icon anywhere they please, and possibly without credit. Even if we remove them, we can't force them to take the icon down.
& Once you post the icon, we will save it as your username, and upload it twice to the community's PhotoBucket account. Once it will be saved as your username, once it will be saved with "Keep original picture names" unchecked. The one without the original name is the one that will be posted in the community by one of the mods. The account will not be accessible to members of the community. We're doing this so that members will be voted on the icons anonymously and not based on who their friends are and so the mods can participate. If we find you telling people to "vote for the blue icon" or something along those lines, you will be banned and disqualified.
& ALL members, whether they submitted an icon or not, may vote on the winner. Please don't vote for your own. That takes the fun out of it.
& If you take an icon from this community, PLEASE credit. We realize there is no way to force you to credit, however if you're found not crediting, you'll be removed from the community.
& To make sure you can make the best possible icons, we look for high quality, high resolution photographs. If you have a problem with high quality photographs "taking up space on your friends page," maybe you should consider setting up friends groups to avoid that problem.
Last But Not Least:
& There will be first, second, and third place winners.
& It's possible that there will be multiple winners per place. We're aware of this and perfectly fine with it.
& The winners will be based on the results of the poll.
Schedule:
Sunday - Picture or lyric is posted. Icon posting begins.
Monday - Icon posting continues.
Tuesday - Icon posting continues.
Wednesday - Icon posting ends. Voting beings.
Thursday - Voting continues.
Friday - Voting continues.
Saturday - Voting ends. Winners are posted.
Sometimes contests will last for two weeks. If this is the case, the icon posting continues until the NEXT Wednesday, when voting will begin.
