bnf_brawlYou awake one morning to find a computer designed to suit your needs sitting a few feet away. Taped to it is a note that says "Turn me on." Depending upon who you are, this might be the most familiar looking device in the world, or it might be something completely foreign. However, you are compelled to follow the instructions, whether through basic curiosity or some other driving force, you're not sure.
The computer boots up and an AI program opens up as well. "Hello _____, I am BRaWLDOS. Today we take the first step on a very important journey. The road to becoming a BNF."
A browser opens up with the homepage of livejournal.com.
"Please choose a name to suit your online persona," BRaWLDOS says. "If you haven't selected one within five minutes, I will select one for you."
Several minutes pass and soon you are the proud owner of a livejournal. Or you would be proud if you knew what it was. BRaWLDOS guides you step by step in customizing your new journal, including requesting membership at
bnf_brawl."Joining this community is an important step in your path to becoming a BNF," she says. "It may take a bit before you're granted access, but we can use that time to train you in the many aspects of fandom. You may also use this time to get to know the people in the community you're joining."
Over the next several days BRaWLDOS offers you a plethora of tutorials on using the internet, a computer, what fandom is, anything you don't already know. She offers you the choice of skipping each tutorial when she presents it. If you follow them, it sometimes seems as though she's leaving things out, but you're too distracted to notice it. If you choose not to, she won't ever offer it again. EVER. Enjoy adapting without a proper tutorial. ♥
An email arrives from God. He informs you that you've been accepted to the community and you may try your hand at becoming a BNF-- aka, a Big Name Fan. In this case, a BNF of the fandom of your choice, anywhere from crossovers to your very own.
While you're a part of this community, BRaWLDOS will offer you challenges, juicy tidbits to spur your creative energies, giving you little pushes when you start to lose steam while God sits back and watches. These very same challenges also decide your ranking as a BNF per month-- and who knows? Maybe you'll get a fabulous prize for your efforts. However, if you choose not to follow BRaWLDOS' requirements, you could at the very least show your worth to your fellow competitors by creating works of your own. Be they fanart, fanfiction, videos, or even icons. Remember-- you're striving to be the ~*best*~.
You begin applying the things you might have learned over the past few days as you make your first post and as you comment to others. Depending upon how much you explored while waiting to join, you might already understand some basic things about yourself and the others in the community or you might find yourself shocked when someone more knowledgeable points these things out to you.
