 | 08:24 am - The B-Movie Sound System Presents ...
On July 31st The B-Movie Sound System invite you to a one-off special party where we will be playing the music of the Vietnam war era (1959-1975). Please put the date into your diaries now and get your minds and livers in training for an evening of full on rock'n'roll, 60s punk, perfect pop music, psychedelic rock, Motown classics, and glam rock.
The dress code is "Apocalypse Now meets Mary Quant" - do with that what you will! (We'll be charging extra to anyone who doesn't make an effort though)
Your DJ's for the party will be The Ingénue & Simon B-Movie (aka The B-Movie Sound System) and our guests Twisted Kitten and Liz Swarf.
Liz Swarf is the singer with Brighton electro band Swarf and one time DJ at Brighton's Lowlife club night - this should be a rare opportunity to hear her play music with guitars in! We came across Twisted Kitten DJing at Planet Angel a couple of years back and I was immediately bouncing around the club with huge idiot grin on my face - eclectic and entertaining.
The B-Movie Sound System formed early in the 21st century to prove a point and to use that point to inject some of the drunken fun back into alternative clubbing.
This will be the LAST show with the B-Movie Sound System performing together for a while (for reasons that will become obvious)

 | 09:49 pm - V-Movie NEWSFLASH + + + We are the B-Movie Sound System; for a number of years we brought the beats of a dozen alternative genres to one chaotic night of debauchery and boozy mayhem.
Our PR agency, if we had one, would claim that we changed the face of clubbing; we did not, but we did make a funny face at the face of clubbing and gave it a spit-wash and fixed its make-up.
It was a lot of fun. But all good things must come to an end. We had a mission here on your planet and we completed it, said goodbye, and returned to the glorious rock'n'roll star in the heavens above.
But we still like planet Earth, and we love London, and we adore music and ... well we've wanted to do this for a while.
The B-Movie Sound System Presents - V-Movie - July 31st 2009
V-Movie will play music of the Vietnam War era (1959-1975). It's a soundtrack of everything from classic rock'n'roll to perfect 60s pop music, from Motown to psychedelic, and glam rock to 60s punk.
Sign up to the facebook group for information about the party, opportunities to get involved, and all the news that we can bring you. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=101044491139
or keep an eye on this community for further news ...
In the mean time, start thinking about what to wear! The proposed dress code will be Apocalypse Now meets Mary Quant, but we're open to suggestions.

 | 05:51 pm - We're compared to BMovie, so try us out... I've heard the comparison on several occassions now, so I thought it may be worth sharing: -

 | 11:46 pm - Calling all musicians!!! Since there doesn't seem to be one yet (that I can find), I have created this....
ukgothmusicians
It's to help those of us who wear too much black or UV and like to make music, find others who wear too much black or UV and like to make music. Every other forum seems flooded with metalheads and people who still say "Madchester". Seriously, it is not easy finding musicians into our kind of music.
So, if you're a knob-twiddler looking for shouter, or a hitter of things looking for a plucker of stringy things, this is the place for you.
My apologies, but I'm gonna x-post this like hell.

 | 10:37 am - News from the sound system & more news from erstwhile guest DJs ... Sexbat and The Ingenue were in rehearsals last night; whilst no club nights are planned (over and above current guest appearances), this was the first time the duo have been in the same place in the vicinity of a mixing desk for a while. When asked for a comment by reporters, Sexbat replied "You might stop the party but you can't stop the future!" and then he giggled and fell over ...
The third Opium Den hosted at the infamous Bardens Boudoir!
( flyer )
Due to the sad passing of Mr Bo Diddley we have a surprise turn from Mr Paul Ronney Angel and Special Guests playing some of his greatest songs.
Also this night as you are all aware we have Mike The London Magician astounding us all with his Mind Reading powers of amazement.
Charlie Khan will be bringing his skiffle sound to the Den's illustrious stage.
Dr Butler's Hatstand Medicine Band will be taking us back to when Penny Farthings graced the streets of London.
Luc Owll will be surprising us with his dark and brooding one man show.
Congregation will be gracing the stage too with their amazing and unique sound. Mojo raved about them and it's easy to see why we had to have them play for us too!
And finally the infinitely beautiful Lalla Morte will be charming us with her fabulous burlesque.
DJ's are Duncan DeMorgan (Born Bad, Shore Leave) Lydia Darling (Strength through Joy) and your hostess Amanda Mae Steele.
And this time the tea is on the house!

| 03:25 pm - A rare pimping I'd usually keep this group free for news of the Sound System and our upcoming plans and gigs. I know that the Ingenue is hard at work putting together something quite special but you'll have to wait a goodly while for details on that.
However, some of our favourite B-Movie guests are playing out this Friday at Mass in Brixton. It's Rex's new club night and takes the form of a Full Tilt Reunion.
The details are here, and all you lovely people who said you'd buy me a drink if you saw me out can make good on your promise as I'm going along.

 | 03:44 pm - Slightly OT - help with an article Hi,
I'm currently researching an article for flisolo.com on graduate life in London. Of course, any good article comes with some back-up from real people in the situation at hand. I'd be really grateful if you could send me a little blurb about your experiences since graduating. How easy was it to find work here? Was it hard to make new friends? Get housing? Did it meet your expectations? Was it expensive? Why London?
I'd also like you to include details of the following, though it is optional:
Name University Course Industry Role Salary
I can change/conceal names on request.
Any help would be much appreciated, and if you know of anyone else who could help out, please forward my email details to them (silktwisteddagger@gmail.com)
Thanks
Shreena

The B-Movie Sound System will be performing together on Midsummer's Night at the Midsummer Ball and at the Whitby Gothic Weekend in October. Other dates are currently being negotiated.

| 11:34 am - What next for the sound system? Just a quick post to say "Happy New Year" and to let you know that we have a gig booked for later this year that some of you might be interested in. Click on the banner for details.

As an aside ... did anyone either pick up a coat that wasn't theirs at the last B-Movie or did you leave your coat behind? We appear to have a size 6 wool coat over and are still missing one!

 | 11:03 am - What tracks remind people of B-Movie? Just wondering (apropros of not a lot¹) what tracks people associate with B-Movie?
( Poll behind cut )
¹ Well, OK, mostly apropos of bumping into a mate who used to DJ at The Stairway in Croydon, during what may be termed my formative years, and we were discussing the way people often remember clubs by the tracks played.
