Has anyone seen any of Johnny Lang's recent shows?
I'm trying to figure out if I want to go to his show here in Washington, but I don't know if he's doing his old blues stuff or his new gospel-y stuff.
Does anyone happen to know?
Thanks!

I Listen to a lot of music. I often give thought to what I'm listening to, and why. At times, I even pull out the whole big rock philosophizing route (what IS the pompetence of love?). yeah... so knowing this, i made a discovery.
I noticed this weekend that the greatest songs aren't love songs. Not really. There are GREAT love songs, don't get me wrong, but they get better as you start to move into the bitter break-up songs, or the angry broken-heart songs. But the best aren't really about love at all. Its the in-the-moment songs. About the passion, lust, hot breath on your neck and warm body pressed tight against your own. those songs. About these moments when you don't have to remember who you are, or whether what you are doing is going to affect the world around you. You get to regret later, but you can use those songs for the next album.
That said, while these make for the best songs, in real life, however, its quite the opposite. In the moment works for a 3 minute song. It is NOT a way we can survive in life. Too many moments and we start to forget that once these moments pass, we have to go back and live our lives, knowing our place, and being true to who we are in the world.
That's why we write those songs. We have to have a place where we can be in that moment. Live that lie.
Gotta live your lie.
I Know I do.

You are Son House. You were an archetypal blues figure in all aspects of your life. You fought your own demons, finding yourself caught between the world of the sacred and the profane, between fighting the Devil as a preacher and dancing with him as a blues player. Film of your performances in later life show at times a soft spoken, mumbling man who would suddenly reach down into himself and strum your National and, with the notes that came out, transform it all into a field of energy and depth.

You are Rice Miller, AKA Sonny Boy Williamson who began your association with Chess Records in 1955, when you were already at least 45 years old. Your exuberant yet dynamic and intricate playing brought the harmonica from the Delta to Chicago, influencing every harp blower since. You developed your rough and wild, hard-swinging, juke-joint style during extensive travels throughout the South.

Well hello to all, I am brand new to this community. Hmm, lets see, where to start off. Ah, how bout when I got into the blues, yes? Yes.
I never really used to like it that much when I was very young. I just imagined B.B. King singing boring songs whenever I heard the blues. Then I saw The Blues Brothers, ahhh a revelation for the spirit of a on comeing blues fan. Well, Elwood Blues was like the coolest dude. I started to play harmonica beacuse of him, which I still play. Well, I saw B.B. King and Dr. John on Blues Brothers 2000. So, I checked out some B.B. King Cds, god I hated them. They were so slow and boring, they werent like The Blues Brothers!! Heh, that was beacuse I only got his slow moody songs. Well, I then got hooked on B.B., then I started to go from there. I got Martin Scoresese Presents The Blues Cd a year ago. I didnt like much of it. They had a lot of old and delta blues, blah. Though, I did get into Keb' Mo' and Stevie Ray Vaughn from that soundtrack. Then the older tracks grew on me. My interest in blues has built up from all styles of blues. I like the jazzy goovy blues of Ray Charles, along with the raw meaningful tone of Son House. Yes, now I cant get enough of the blues. Going into the blues music has also made me more openminded. I now like other artists such as Ani Difranco, Lebo M. and Robert Mirabal. Lesser known artists they are yes, but they are great. Not really blues but I just thought I'd mention them. Well thats it for me. I'm looking forward to future posting in this community!
