Major Bloodspell Update

OK, it's been a month. But now, we're back and rolling.

Quick announcements first (and a call for help, at the bottom), followed by a detailed explanation of what's been happening probably tomorrow...

1) Pre-production on Bloodspell is now, bar an hour of quick tidying tomorrow, DONE! This is a really major achievement, and congratulations to everyone who has worked on it before.

Just so you know, the grand total of files that have been produced during this time exceeds 7,000 individual bits, from new maps to new models to new skins and parts of characters. It's a massive undertaking.

2) For a couple of reasons, we're changing the way we intend to produce Bloodspell.

The original intention was to finish the entire movie, then release it episodically after that.

We are now intending to work on a rolling production schedule, releasing one episode whilst we're still working on one a few episodes down the line. It's harder work, and potentially riskier in terms of delays, but we thing that the speed of getting the film to the public, and the added flexibility we'll have to make changes, will make it better.

3) Ok, there's no easy way to say this, so I'm just going to go for the "one big rip" school of Elastoplast removal.

The hard drive containing the voice which we recorded in June had a fatal crash, and was unrecoverable. Because of the unique (and annoying) filesystem the sound recorder uses, we weren't able to make backups. Therefore, we're going to have to re-record the voice.

I'm very sorry about this - it's been a major blow to everyone involved in the production. However, we've thought about it at some length, and we feel that we can learn from the last recording session to make the voice acting we record this time even better.

We'll be contacting actors about re-recording the final versions in due course - we're intending to work with each of the leads on the project seperately to get maximum quality, and to record everyone else on an act-by-act basis.

Help wanted! However, right now, we need to record a rough track to create an animatic (very rough version of the film) to. We're intending to do that this Saturday evening - basically, we'll sit around a table and do a read-through of the script, recorded onto hard disk (and then immediately backed up!).

We'll need about 5-6 people, ideally including as many members of the cast as possible! It will take about 2-3 hours, and we'll be recording in the early evening (around 6ish), so pub will definitely still be an option afterward.

If you'd be around then to help out, please comment below! Thanks.
  • I'll be around this saturday, to do whatever I can! Just let me know when and where..
  • Ouch!
Ok, Sat pm at 6pm it is.
  • Where is this? If it's not too far out of the way (headed to Gigantor that night) I could lend a hand... er, voice...
    • It's probably rather out of the way for you (down on Leith Walk), but thanks!
  • Where be and when?
    • 7pm, at my flat on Leith Walk. Help would be greatly appreciated.
      • Okay. If you can email me the exact address that would be helpful. See you then I guess.
  • As Gordon will be there, so I'll be at a loose end, let me know if you want me. Although it looks like you might have plenty of female voices anyway? Let me know soon though so I don't plan anything else!
  • 7,000 individual bits

    That's less than 1kb! I'm glad you're keeping the storage-requirements low.

Seriously though, well done so far. Looking forward to seeing the episodes start rolling out... :)
  • Gah!

    Saturday okay for me.
  • Would love to but can't. However, see you Sunday for the end of the world game.
  • jeez.

    oh. i can't do saturday,
    but am pretty free until
    the 18th of december. let
    me know!
    • Re: jeez.

Darn, it'd have been really great to have you there.

Thanks. The chances are that recording will be happening in January and onwards, so we'll let you know.
