So one of the things keeping me occupied and away from the internet lately is the acquisition of an Xbox 360. This may seem a trivial matter, except that it's the very first console system I've ever owned in my life. Sure, I begged for a Super Nintendo when I was a kid, but my parents couldn't afford it. And yeah, the Playstation was central to the lives of most of my friends during my teenage years, but I was over-sensitive and they liked to laugh at people when they sucked at video games, so I figured it was not a good time to begin.
So, of course, at the tender age of 27 I finally get one of these things in my house and it's "OMG this thing is fun!"
We've started out with all of three games: Beautiful Katamari, Ninja Gaiden II, and Lego Star Wars.
Beautiful Katamari has been my main addiction on the 360. Sure, I can practically hear the jeers of all those teenage gamers I hung out with for loving the hell out of a game that's so silly and childish, but it's cute and makes me laugh and the difficulty is at exactly my level, and being able to go back to collect the hidden treats you missed the first time has more replay appeal to me than "ohh, beat the game on Medium, now I will beat the game on Hard".
Speaking of "now I will beat the game on Hard".... Ninja Gaiden II makes me laugh. I swear whoever designed that game was sitting around going "OMG ninjas are so cool they're all members of ancient and powerful clans and will flip out and kill everything with their Ultimate Dragon Master Sword of the Ancients *fapfapfapfapfap*" There's just waaaaaay too much effort put into making Ryu the ultmate
Gary Stu.. tight leather, huge weapons, stone cold and unshakable and beats every boss with a cut scene of him casually strolling away from some flailing, exploding demon seventeen times his size. The man doesn't even need to breathe underwater. And for that matter, he can run
on water. Heh. Ninja Jesus. Maybe that'd explain why he's white despite being Japanese...
Lego Star Wars Daedius reeeeally wants me to play, but he got the complete saga and apparently that means we have to beat the prequels before we're allowed to play though the originals, and the prequels suck. Boo.
Those haven't been the only games we play, mind you. Daedius is very fond of Braid - nice and relaxing, no dying, just solve pretty puzzles - and I've got Viva Pinata II on preorder (Oh yes, the demo of the first game makes me squeal like an 8-year-old. It's adorable. It's fun. It makes my face hurt after an hour or so of play because I spend so much time grinning and going "eeeee!". It's too cute and I must have it!)
But it keeps us busy. 's been fun.
