| About: | This community is for those interested in the sociology of online journaling.![[info]](http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/community.gif){kind=small} blog_sociology exists as a forum for the academic study of sociology within the context of internet communities and personal publishing. We are here to explore all aspects of interpersonal communication within the blog format, be they good, bad or neutral. You are asked to behave as if you were in a college classroom, giving due respect to your peers and being polite at all times. Whenever possible, provide concrete examples for your arguments or better still, cite sources that back up your point. While personal experience is considered valid, any arguments based upon it should be phrased accordingly, such as "In my experience...." Personal insults and ad hominem attacks, whether directed at community members or those outside of the community, will not be tolerated. This also includes attacks against any groups or organizations and especially other communities. This does not mean that you cannot criticize or disagree, but it does mean that you can't say "Their fathers were muskrats and their mothers smelled of elderberry" or anything of that ilk. It is not permitted for anyone other than a moderator to delete any comment made by another person, and it is not permitted for anyone other than a moderator to delete a post. You may delete your own comments if you are reposting to correct errors. If you believe a comment or post should be deleted because of violations of community policy or LJ Terms of Service, please contact a moderator. Topics of discussion include: * Similarities and differences of online interaction with real life interaction * The role of the blog in media * Behaviour exhibited by individual bloggers or groups of bloggers * How communities and groups work in the online world and how they are managed * Any item that impacts blogs, bloggers or blog companies to the extent that the impact is sociological * Significant news items where blogs or bloggers have received press attention * Disadvantages to keeping online blogs or journals This is not a finite set and only exists to show examples of the sorts of topics we discuss. We are here to develop an understanding of what is really happening and our responses to it, not to dictate what should happen. This is a place of study, not debate.
