If one were to add this feed to one's friend list, when ever someone tweets (globally) with a #bliteotw hashtag, it should end up aggregating on your friends page at LJ.

It won't be very helpful at the moment, but it could be helpful next year... on the off chance that the zombies return.

Yeah, I totally forgot this was happening... kind of got distracted by being deployed... shit.

A late realization...

  • Jun. 14th, 2009 at 1:03 PM
I didn't quite realize the zombies were coming yesterday -- but I'm much better now.. The bites heal, oddly enough, after a good night's sleep and a hit of bactine.  XD

I found recordings of last night when they finally came for me.  I think I magically avoided the smaller batches of outbreaks for most of the day until they came for me at night..

The hint, then the four entries..

The Rest of the Story

My water finally came back on. That's good news, I guess. Something to hold onto, in any case. And it helped, at least a little bit. At least I was able to wash the blood off.

I keep seeing it, though. I stood in the shower for two hours, scrubbing as hard as I could. My skin is red and raw all over. I know it's gone. I know that. But every time I look at my hands or my reflection in the mirror, I see it. I may have scrubbed it from my skin, but it's still there in my head. And all the water in the world can't make it go away. Gods, why won't it go away?

Cut for length. )

The last few hours

  • Jun. 13th, 2009 at 10:04 PM
I am still thanking my lucky stars we don't live in a large urban area. We've seen very, very few zombies here so far. Who knows what tomorrow will bring. A couple tried to get into the chicken coop, but my dad took care of them easily enough. I'm still worried, though. I suggested we sleep in shifts. It's my turn right now. I hope it stays quiet, but I doubt it will. I can't see well after dark, and I can't shoot for crap.

Repasting from here because I don't have much time left before it happens.

I told you all it was coming.

Maybe I'd enjoy the gloating more if, you know. I hadn't been bit. In a way though I think it's better this way.

We're You're never going to win.

Checking in!

  • Jun. 13th, 2009 at 5:04 PM
How's everyone else holding up? I just got back to my house and am delighted to find that everyone is still alive and that there's minimal zombie-age here (well, compared to last year, anyway.) Figured I would check in now, considering when I last did it was just past 9:20.

(12:19 PM) A small check in post

(2:53 PM) A post before venturing back outside

NASA delays shuttle launch...

  • Jun. 13th, 2009 at 3:30 PM
So the news agencies are claiming a hydrogen leak has delayed the launch of Endeavour this morning but apparently someone is keeping things hushed up. Eric and I biked down to the riverfront along US 1 to watch the launch and... something... was wrong. The usual crowd of tourists that mob up the eastern side of the highway, parking in the grass was just not there and normally these people start to congregate hours before the shuttle takes off.

Well, we hung around for a little while, just resting on our bikes when I noticed that what few people -were- around were just... shambling and looking lost. It finally hit me when I noticed one of them was missing an arm but wasn't bleeding. Swine flu -evolved- right here in the heart of Old People Central. Good ol' Florida. Thank god we had our bikes. We hightailed it out of there and made for our house immediately. As soon as we started making any kind of commotion we definitely attracted their notice, so be careful!

We're holed up in here for now with the blinds drawn across what I now view as far too many windows and we're trying to stay quiet. I worry most about our sliding glass doors in the back of the house, but maybe if we keep a low profile they won't come investigate.

Oh, you've got to be freaking kidding me!  Bad enough last year we had a freaking ZOMBIE uprising, which the government is totally denying.  Most theories the government put forward to explain was mass hysteria caused by some sort of inhaled hallucinogen.  Like none of the rest of us saw the meteor flashing over head, from east to west, or how the sky turned blood red in it's wake, followed by the rising of the shambling dead hungry for the blood of the living.  They said it couldn't happen again.

They were wrong.

Can you see the meteor flashing across the blood red sky?  Do you hear the horrible moans and screams carried by the wind?

They're here.  This time there's no way to escape.  I've barricaded myself in my garage.  I have food, water, weapons, and thanks to the solar panels I still have electricity and a internet connection.  I'll fight to the last, but I'm saving one bullet for myself.  I don't want to become one of those things, mindless but for hunger, capable of hurting and killing the innocent.  Please,  please don't let me become one of those...

Death, taxes, and politics

  • Jun. 13th, 2009 at 12:28 PM
It's the freakin' apocalypse and the politicos are bickering! Of course they are. Because who has a bigger penis and who can come out looking like the biggest heroes (read:douchebags) is more important than doing this job.

I'm sitting here, waiting for a new assignment, while the powers that be engage in a frickin' turf war. Gary Miller (owner of Prompt Ambulance) and his paid friends are bickering with Tom over jurisdiction and who should be in charge. Gary is trying to be the "incident commander", even though he really has no training in this and is just a pencil-pusher with a gigantic ego. Fuck, I think I liked him better when he was hopped up on coke all the time.

The thing is, we are using Lincoln Center in Highland for one of the evacuation sites and as a staging area for Region Five (Highland, Munster, and Griffith). Prompt is the 911 contract for Highland, Munster, and Griffith. So they feel they should be in charge.

However, Superior is contracted with FEMA and Homeland Security. And in any emergency disaster plan, federal holds a hell of a lot more weight than the local town council.

Tom is trying to show him that we are not stepping on toes, we are just trying to follow the national guidelines until some more feds get here to take over, but Gary is hollering and throwing a tantrum. I'm at least 20 feet away and I can see the pulse throbbing in his temple. What a jackass. Even the fire chief is getting sick of his shenanigans.

Great... now Gary is saying something about how he has proof that he's in charge. Something in his car. I can't believe he is going to make a couple of the officers go outside in this shit, just to prove a point. What an ass.

What the... brb.

OMFG!

I seriously can't believe this.

A zombie just ripped out Gary's throat!! It was standing on the far side of his Hummer and he didn't even look when he walked around it. Luckily, one of the cops popped them both in the head. Best use of ammunition that I've seen all day!

OMFG!

Well, at least this clears up who is in charge.

Not sure how often I'm going to have inner-webz access. But thank the Gods I now have a Blackberry. If you are wondering how my day is going, I'm going to try to update as often as possible on my Twitter.

Be safe!

And [info]krisravenna, if you are reading this... CALL ME!

Shitshitshitshitshitshitshitshitshitshitshit.

  • Jun. 13th, 2009 at 12:01 PM
Umm... so yeah. There's a virus or something going on. And it's causing people to become rather violent and bite people. Who then become violent and bite people. And there are stories of people rising from their graves. I now feel bad for whatever officers got sent to take care of that "party" at Holy Cross.

Fuck. Nobody has actually come out and said it, but they are talking about zombies. Fuck. ZOMBIES!?! FUCK!

Northwest Indiana has been divided into sectors about 3-5 miles square. We are to drive through each sector, looking for people who have not been infected and take them to one of the evacuation centers. Tom (my regional manager and the sometimes head of our special response team) looks a bit pale. After giving us our assignments he asked if any of us had guns at home. GUNS?!? This is bad. I'm heading home to get our arsenal and all the spare ammo we have. Now I have to make a decision. I think my dad gave us his .45. I wish I had a bigger revolver. The .22 isn't much use from the distance I want to keep, but revolvers are less prone to jam or otherwise fuck up. My .38 has more power, but it's a semi-auto and I don't want it to jam at the wrong time. Oh well. At least I can reload on the fly.

Crap. I'm babbling a bit now. Must remain calm. Must stay focused. I'm trained for this. Well, not this exactly, but I am a trained professional. Of course, today triage isn't quite so text book than the way I was trained. Instead of green, yellow, red, and black, we have green and shoot.

Fuck.

Just shoot me now

  • Jun. 13th, 2009 at 11:58 AM
Once again, work sucked. The hospitals were crazy busy and there were fucking people everywhere. I mean, literally everywhere. You can tell it's the first weekend of summer vacation. I had to call the cops around 5 this morning because someone was throwing a party or some shit in Holy Cross Cemetery. Why the hell would they do that? I mean, at least choose some small, out-of-the way cemetery where you aren't going to be seen. Not one of the largest Catholic cemeteries in the midwest.

Finally got home, got undressed and crawled into bed when my fucking pager went off. Now there seems to be some sort of local disaster and FEMA is calling for a response. So, I threw on my polo and the trauma pants that they don't let us wear on duty and headed off.

Side note, I think my neighbor across the street has been hitting the sauce a bit early. He was standing on his porch calling out to me, but his speech was a bit slurred. I think he was saying something about it raining today. Or maybe he was bitching about the trains again. Whatever. I'll have [info]tdstraitjacket go and look in on him later.

I did stop at Starbucks for a triple venti peppermint mocha. I am not going to survive today without caffeine. I'm surprised that the line through the drive-through was so short, though. Well, it is a Saturday.

So, now I'm at the station, waiting for the powers-that-be to get here and tell us what's going on. There's only a couple of us here so far and there's murmurs about some sudden viral pandemic. If they got me out of bed for the fucking swine flu, I'm going to kill them all.

Since we stayed out late last night I didn't think about putting on the alarm. Last night was a nice evening we went to the woods and had a great bonfire picnic. No one was around for hours. It was dark when we got in and my cousin promised to wake me in the morning to go with her to the ball field. When I woke today the house was silent still. I am on the third floor so that's not unusual. I went looking for my cousin and it looks like she left already. It's when I got to the basement something was wrong.

I found bloody prints all over and one of the bed room doors has been boarded closed. I went closer to the door and heard some scuffling, but it wasn't till I tripped on the rug that I heard the moaning. I ran back upstairs and closed the basement door. I didn't see anything out the windows and my cousin's car was missing. I went out to the third floor balcony and I saw only what I could describe as atrocious. My aunt our only neighbor for miles was in the back yard eating on an arm. She had part of her face missing. I think she saw me so I ran inside again. I'm going to grab the radio and some supplies and close myself up on the third floor. We have another doorway that separates the two. The second floor is closed off from the outside but If I stay away from the ground floor exits maybe it won't attract attention.

The phones work. I'm going to try to reach my cousin...

I will be continuing updates here.

Update the First

  • Jun. 13th, 2009 at 9:28 AM
I just happened to discover Zombie Apocalypse 2.0 while making breakfast and hearing something weird coming from outside and just shrugged it off. Weird sounds in Arizona? Usually wind, animals, or something else. Only when I came upstairs did I discover the truth:

Zombies. Again.

And and I have to go in to work tech hours today! Shit! Will be Tweeting intermittently through the day at http://twitter.com/danica_enjolras. At least in the shop we'll have a metric asston of power tools to keep us safe.

Safe...for now

  • Jun. 13th, 2009 at 10:39 AM
I don't have much battery power left on my lappy, so I'll make this quick. I am just thankful I made it out of Istanbul before all this went down. I've been checking the news for updates on the outbreak, and Istanbul is completely infected. Thank goodness I'm in a town of 2500 people right now.

My parents live in a rural area with lots of trees and places to hide. I think we'll be okay here for a while. They begrudgingly helped me board up windows and doors early this morning. They never wanted to believe me when I was younger, but I've been preparing for this day for years. Now it's finally here and I am happy to say my expectations haven't been met. Yet. We have yet to see many zombies, probably because it's hard for them to climb up and down the steep hills around here. That's fine by me. I'm still not taking any chances. We plan to stay put for as long as we can. We have a vehicle ready to go, though, and I've packed a knapsack for each of us. We have plenty of firearms here, another thing for which I am thankful.

I hear a moan. I think we may have company.
And we seem to have no other concatenated feed, here is an RSS feed for Twitter posts labeled #bliteotw

http://search.twitter.com/search.atom?q=%23bliteotw

I swear, I've been through this before.

  • Jun. 13th, 2009 at 8:26 PM
It's like a bad 21st Century Battlestar Galactica episode! Which was most of that series, come to think of it. At least the acting was great. All this has happened before, and all this will happen again! Well, at least that saves on coming up with new and bright ideas.

So, the battery on my computer is dying and I'm sitting on top of my house. I think the zombies ate my gerbils, which makes me think of Dingoes Ate My Baby or whatever that imaginary group on Buffy the Vampire Slayer was called. Really, in all of my nightmares I didn't actually ever think of how to protect my gerbils. My cats, however, I got to the roof with me. And they are very confused. So am I. How will I get us down and to some place defensible?

I am in rural Japan. That means a lot of open space which at least is an advantage when it comes to the zombies. But my car has only half a tank of gas. It's not an eco-car, either. Pity, I was going to buy one next time. My neighbor bought one, but it hasn't been delivered to them yet. And now it never will be, I'm sure. Of course I didn't post before. I've been too busy trying to live. Every joint in my body aches. The zombies cannot see me because the ones around here, well... see there are a lot of trees whose branches are leafy, which means if they look up it's not too hard to duck out of sight. But I have to be quiet and cannot contain the cats. But the zombies can't get up here. I say but too often.

It's a useless place to be, though. Can't get at water, can't get at food. Can at least take a dump off the side of the house! That's not as funny as it seemed when I first thought it.

(psst! Remember, there is no such thing as zombies that we know of!)

So, yeah, I've got about 20 posts planned out, spanning text, voice, and video posts. Click on over to my journal to watch! All my entries are friends-only EXCEPT the relevant ones for BLITEOTW 2009, which are and will be/remain public.

What about time differences? My country is 18 hours ahead of the United States. Does that mean I celebrate panic earlier? Or do I wait until the day after before I blog?

Posted because I can't find relevant information on this.

BLITEOTW 2009 Coordination

  • May. 24th, 2009 at 12:19 AM
I've spoken to Steve over at My Elves Are Different and he isn't going to be able to coordinate 2009's activities. To kind of get things going, I've set up a sign up form for anyone who's interested to enter information about their blog.

The plan for June 13th is to have a combined RSS feed of all the blogs that have signed up. That way people can go to one place to view all the combined BLITEOTW 2009 blog entries.

You can find the sign up form at http://www.nullityvoid.com/

Please enter your blog info and spread the word!

Blog Like It's The End of the World

  • May. 21st, 2009 at 7:46 PM
Hey! I did a search on google to see if there was another Blog Like It's the End of the World Day in 2009, but so far, I haven't found anything. Are we doing it again this year? If no one has set a date yet, how does either June 11th or June 13th sound? Lastly, what kind of apocalypse are we going to have this year? Zombie again, or something else?

May. 7th, 2009

  • 7:49 PM
We have a little over a month...

I don't know if there's anything official planned, but I'm curious -

Do people want Zombies again? or a new Apocalypse?

will there be a BLITEOTW09?

  • Apr. 13th, 2009 at 11:38 PM
maybe its a little too early, but is anyone leading the day this year? i still plan to do so regardless.

Newbie here, had a great time posting in my own journal and confusing people. I wanted to post more but didn't really have the time. Whoever came up with this idea is a genius, it's way too much fun.

Edited because I can't do html at all and can't figure out how to link to my journal. The last few entries are my bliteotw entries and they are unlocked!

Whee!

  • Jun. 20th, 2008 at 1:34 PM
Well, it certainly was a busy BLITEOTW this year. I sure hope everyone enjoyed my posts with pics and video. I didn't get to do nearly as much as I was hoping to this year, due to having so much to do what with graduation ceremony and leaving for a 4 hour drive to the Eastern part of WA.

I can't wait for next year... Hopefully I'll have time to put together some better pictures and videos.

FYI, almost everything in my posts that day that didn't involve zombies was true and actually happened. I find "Zombie-fying" my day is so much more fun than making it up and lends a bit of realism and tension that you just can't get with throwing together of random ideas.

My Descent into Madness

  • Jun. 20th, 2008 at 3:35 PM
I came to saturday morning, covered in things that I didn't really want to think too hard about.  In the shower I realized just how ugly work had gotten the day before.   While everyone was busy fighting off these things, I was something I don't want to remember being..

The day's delusional posts..

It was a busy day Friday, and I defintiely didn't get to be as active as I wanted to be.  Still, it was fun and I'm looking forward to what disaster happens in 2009.

not much time this year...

  • Jun. 17th, 2008 at 8:52 AM
i didnt have much time this year, so really had to limit my postings ( i was on my way out to a sales event friday)

but i still managed to have a few posts on both the [info]fabricdragon live journal and the [info]thorninthefoot  live journal (yes they are both me, thorninthefoot is my ranting/mad science/ etc journal).  i think that last years posts were more fun, but i am very pleased that this year i managed to tie the current  news (the tomato scare) in to the zombie uprising/attacks.

because its obviously the tomatoes.....

since i happen to be allergic to raw onions, i never touch salsa. ever (so that part of the post was true) and i rarely eat tomatoes in any uncooked form, so i figured i wasnt infected.  i also worked on the quick assumption that [info]fabricdragon  (being true to my usual oblivious nature) wouldnt know what was going on this year, and would blithely pack the van and drive off for a sales event. probably to be eaten by packs of zombies on the turnpike... sad.... i survived last year.
thorninthefoot survived quite nicely, of course.
