yahoo group giving the blind a bad immage
Ok guys,
A friend of mine asked me to check this group out because she didn't have a yahoo account. I was angry and outraged at what I found here is the description that is located on the group.
Welcome to the Blind Tards yahoo group.

Have you ever had to deal with a stupid blind person? Someone so stupid they deserve to be on your better off dead list?

We don't give a rat's a$$ if you like or dislike this list. If you don't like it, then don't subscribe.

Bitching about the subject matter of this list will just get you kicked off, and then we'll talk about you without
mercy. And just imagine that email. Hey, I got kicked off the blind tards mailing list. What will people think?

The only requirement here is that we have to stay on topic. We're not going to be socially conscious, or discuss the merits of one issue or another.

We're here to talk about blind people being idiots. Surely there are plenty of examples.

Keep in mind that what the creators of this group want is a reaction! If you just silently ignore their stupidity, they will have very little fun; if, on the other hand, you rant and rave and get all upset, they will enjoy it.

A quick review of the messages in the archives of that group as of this morning confirms that particular suspicion. :)

I have to concur with what has already been said here. I haven't checked out the list archives, not sure if I will or not. But the fact is, the reaction played right into their hands, or so it seems. Like I said to someone the other night, this type of endeavor deserves no attention whatsoever because what they are looking for is attention. Better to let these things die their own inevitable deaths.

Is it possible to report this group to yahoo as being blatantly negative and anti-blindness- a very ADA sensitive subject related problem? Honestly these people are just looking for attention and that is it. There are trolls on the internet just looking to stir up rage that quite honestly is not needed. I really think reporting its activities and making public knowledge about their activities, will get them attention, but giving others education. It is highly inappropriate and should be terminateed by yahoo groups.

Is it truly against any rule or regulation, though?

From the perspective of the public Yahoo hosting a discussion list for the KKK or the Nazi party might garnish a bit of outrage; yet, disabilities and discrimination against persons with disabilities does not (as of yet) hold the same kind of social stigma, and would not likely garnish much public attention.

After all, one could create a group to rant about stupid drivers, stupid gardeners, stupid teachers, and that probably would not get axed.

That being said, if they persist on revealing the identities of the people they are ranting about, they could find themselves at the receiving end of a libel suit, so that might convince them to put an end to it. :)

I'd get mad at this if I weren't so busy laughing at it. Come on now! Do you really think that sane, normal people are going to sign up and read this list? If people see it, they're more likely to roll their eyes and/or laugh at it than anything else. Do you seriously think it gives us a bad image? No one will take him seriously. What kind of tard would make a list to talk about blind tards? Normal people, the ones we like and who we work with, are too busy living to join such a list. People who make such lists seem to have no real purpose in life and waste time spewing out their boredom and hate. It's ineffective, and I just treat it like static from a distant TV station.

I can't believe there is such a group! There shouldn't be a group talking about blind people as retards! That makes me really angry because I'm not retarded! I may not be as independent as some, but I know I can have a normal life like everyone else. So, thanks for sharing that information, Dacia. I'm glad that it's at least known that the people that are involved at this group aren't worth talking to anyway! Overall, this is so outrageous. I can not believe that Yahoo doesn't monitor the content of their greogroups just na little bit!

Ok, maybe its just me but I think this is hilarious. I don't see it as offensive or anything at all. I'm sure there are plenty of groups like this directed at all sorts of people on the internet.
They're probably just looking for some uptight people to get their panties in a bunch over it.

I'm with you on that. It sounds like either a social experiment, satire or both. I mean, honestly, "tards"? As another poster pointed out, who *could* take that word seriously (apart from fourth-graders from the '80s)?

I just looked at a few of the messages, and I wonder if this was a list created in reaction to the usual larger blindness chatter lists where a few folks wanted to go vent, be tasteless and blunt and be generally politically incorrect when you know on a larger list such folk would get bitched out for being so blunt or tasteless. It is not, in fact, some hate list put together by a bunch of sighted neo-Nazis bent on exterminating the genetically impure for the good of the planet. Being a veteran of a number of blindness chatter e-mail lists, I can kind of understand why such a list was created, the name notwithstanding. I recognize a few names on that list from other lists I've been on, but I'm also not going to join that one because I don't need to.
