I have a confession to make. I saw the first Bleach movie and I haven't seen any since. Why? I can't stand anime movies. The timeline disruptions hurt me. For some reason I can't see them as video-fanfic--not even to appreciate the quality animation. I try.... But I was traumatized once upon a time. In one of the later DBZ movies Chibis Goten and Trunks fought a resurrected Hitler  Although years after first viewing the dubbed version, I could appreciate that movie on another level of yuck-yucks, I never really got over the shock.

First thought when I heard there was going to be a Hitsugaya movie was yey, orin  is going to love it (and possibly draw more Hitsugaya!) but I'LL PASS.  First thought when I heard of the Rukia movie was damn, my Annie got her wish. When Rukia finished 2nd in the popularity polls, she demanded a Rukia movie. So far, that's what it looks like--Rukia's the poster girl. We have very little else except this official website and the confirmation that Kubo Tite himself gave the movie its title and subtitle: Fade to Black: Calling Out Your Name (In the one sound clip we have, Morita hams it up calling RuKiaaAAAAaaaaaAAAAGH the way only Morita can).

One of my friends will probably force me to watch this movie (I'm currently being persuaded to watch the Hitsu movie for the Kubo Tite extra interview it will sell with) but the fuss about it is more fandom fun for me. Thanks again to Mezzo who found another comic on a Japanese fansite.

Syn and Justine, you can make fun of me all you want but I am still celebrating the fact that Renji has eyebrows and that Primera Espada on BA discovered confirmation of them in the All Colour but the Black artbook. I just love that my Kubo pays attention to details like that--he draws the red eyebrows first and then colors over them in black. There's even evidence he does the real eyebrows in a fuzz pattern in the black and white pages.

First, the fanart I saw yesterday morning that got me drooling thinking:



I've had some friends bemoaning the status of Renji in the manga. The guy played such a pivotal role in the SS arc but seems to be a tag-along in HM.

I'm one of those fangirls who was late aboard the Renji bandwagon. His superstar hawtness status did little for me while SS was going on, and I was more ready to slash him with Ishida than ship him with Rukia (although that pairing has always been one to melt my heart---awww, Renji, you messed that relationship up so much!) Then the regrettable filler!Renji of the anime and movies where our tall tattooed dude is a joke and a fall-guy actually made me warm up to him. You see, I've always been a little mad at him for the way he pounced on Rukia on the bridge in his first appearance--let's just say his goofiness went a ways in redeeming him for how badly he treated his childhood friend.

His canon (I use that word to mean manga-only) moments post SS, starting with his protective touch on Rukia's shoulder when Yamma-ji was making the Shinigami leave the Living World, following through Dondo dropping him on his head hilarity to the whole guy-bonding warmth of his fighting alongside Ishida--ah, I just fell in love with the big lug.

Is his role so stagnant now? He's the only one of the Scooby Gang in HM who hasn't had a victory in a fight, an important power-up (or display of new weaponry like Ishida) or an moment of self-revelation. His devotion to Rukia was emphasized in the prequel chapters of SOULs and over and over in the HM arc but what ABOUT that relationship? My previous post on "connections" has me wondering what needs to be resolved there.  Renji's position in the heirarchy of SS seems to in question--the guy doesn't seem to have ambitions towards Captainhood and seems comfortable in his "rebel" role. A few of my friends believe that if Kubo is going to kill any good guy (HEAVEN FORBID! D:), it will be Renji.

What do you think lies ahead for Abarai?

I finally finished the damn thing. It's really hard to write canon timeline when canon stuff is happening with the characters you're writing.

Ah, I think I have to tidy up the last two stories I wrote. I'm not pleased with either one. The Rukia piece needs me to give up that ending and still convey the "I feel separate from the world and my brother" feeling if it's going to make easy timeline sense... Sure, Rukia could be wandering around slaying Hollow for 40 yrs but it doesn't seem likely, as andrew said, that she wouldn't visit SS sometime. [EDIT] I spent an hour thinking about a rewrite and realized if I just cut the last line, it would work and I'd still have a dramatic ending. I added some other things, though, to make it plain that Rukia wasn't heading out on her first solo mission).

The Nemu piece has gotten good responses but it still seems heavy to me. Could probably cut a page and it would be smoother. But.... I'll prob leave it alone. I've got this Ukitake/Unohana fic I think I can actually finish. *thinks* IshiHime, UlquiIshi, AizenUlqui... which one, which one... I only have two more kidless hours for the morning....

I can't stop with the writing thing.

I wrote this one so fast, and I'm not used to writing fast so it felt like spirit writing, haha. Mostly IshiHime but with appearances by the rescue team. It's short, it's for IshiHime people, I guess.

I'm  all done with revising the Ship Manifesto essay and feel pretty happy with how it's turned out. I took out EVERY reference to "IshiOri shippers" and used  "some fans" where absolutely necessary. I added several la-dee-dah fannish paragraphs about how I got into the pairing and why they're so oogly adorable. I restructured my final argument that predicted Ishida getting together with Orihime by devil's advocating myself and sometimes backing away from my ownconclusions (the old paper did that, but it was probably hard to see the neutrality from all the Ichi-Ori inflammatory phrases. I THINK the essay is kosher now (unless I have some deep unrecognized hostility that is leaking out into all my writing....) and in any event I'm not going to post until before this Thursday, when I go out of town. That way I won't be tempted to deal with responses.

These are just three sets of themed drabbles I wrote last year, but I like them.  I wish I could do something like them again. "Seven Days" is R-rated and the other two are NC-17.
