First,
yamikinoko wrote a sweet IshiHime fic for me over at
bleach_flashfic:
Glitterlace (PG, Ishida, Orihime)
Next, for the record, I can't STAND Nnoitra. He's despicable. He cheats, kicks babies, brags--yeah, Kubo did a good job of designing a slimeball all right. Noi's got a tooth-ringed hole in his head and a memory problem. Oh, and he's a misogynist. Or is he?

capsulekei did a translation of the Ishida and Orihime doujin by ByPass, Staurolite Satellite! The first page goes:
Back on February 14th, Inoue san gave Ishida kun Valentines Chocolates.
All of a sudden Ulquiorra appeared to snatch away that chocolate.
Ishida kun chased Ulquiorra to a void where they plunged in and met with Aizen sama.
And now it's March 14th (White Day).
The rest is here
kitsunenomiko did a summary of the other IshiHime doujin I posted here.
(YES, yes, I know everyone's waiting for the hentai one but blame my hubby with the ADHD).
And lastly, I haven't done this yet but I'm helping spread the word for a fellow nerd:

Kubo, my love, you surprised me. *squishes*
The spoilers are out. And I wasn't entertained the way I wanted to be entertained and I'M GLAD!
Meanwhile, on the fandom front, knowing for a fact that I am suffering PMS with about half of my f-list on LJ and that ship-waters in my fandom have been churning for a couple weeks now, I can, like an old sailor, look to the skies, and call a hurricane just by the color of the sky. Ya know, every now and then I get into a wholesome ship war--you know, the snowball fight kind, with a friend, and think that shipping discussion ain't so bad. Then again....
there are those places where illogic breeds like maggots. I'm jaded now. I can take it all. I'm of my friend
( don't do it. )
My little IshiHime ship is no more that a canoe, really. I'm taking my paddle and heading for shore. I going to dress Ishida in a skimpy outfit there and make him serve me fruity drinks. Orihime can go around rejecting PMS monsters. Anyone up for that?
Ugh, I need to write some PR0NS.
Enthusiastic response to the Valentine pairings poll! Warmed the cockles (does anyone know what a cockle is? I don't) of my Valentine's heart to know how pansexual some of your Bleachers out there are. There really weren't enough ticky-boxes from the very beginning for me to include even my own favorites, and no Adam, you're not responsible for my Kenpachi/Unohana love--I wrote the pair three years ago. Also, girls, girls, I should not be chastised for having left Ma and Pa Shinigami (Ukitake and Unohana) off the lists! I've written them too--a story I don't like but other people seem to like it (warning, it's sad: Unohana's Secret).
I know Papa-lovers (Isshin/Ryuuken) hang in this community, but I deliberately didn't put that ticky box up in favor of the Ishida/Nemu one because I thought they'd be a whole slew of people who fancy that pairing here. (Ishida crazies tend to congregate around me). But only two people as of this evening checked Ishida/Nemu. I used to write that pair a lot--recent chapters starring her poison womb and smothering boobies killed that ship for me, but I thought those very things may have tickled the imaginations of pervs out there who like dominant robot girls holding down pretty boys and smothering them with boobs ... Apparently not. I'm surprised. Those pervs must be elsewhere.
Anyway, hope everyone survived Valentine's Day! I got very mushy watching the most shoujo chapter in all Bleach animated, but all thoughts of Bleach romance that were fanned by the airing of episode 160 (KAIEN-DONO! <3) were immediately put out with the appearance of chapter 310. BATTLE OF THE BEASTS!
There was no Valentine's Day Spread. Then it was clarified to me that LAST WEEK was Shounen Jump's Valentine's issue. Oh well. Kaien-dono in the anime was more than enough for me. There is no heart without him. *sob*
Whilst all teary-eyed over episode 160, I wrote a sentimental contest entry for the IchiRuki FC over at BA that people liked (well, at least the fanclubbers). The entry was all about my gooey lub for the IchiRuki fandom, but I'm a Bleach whore and could've written the piece about the Shini and the Arrancar-lovers or Jackie and her IchiIshi leagues too. I've been feeling an extreme fondness for the IchiOri fandom too lately--my first pals in the Bleach fandom were IchiOris, some of my best spats were with IchiOri crazy people, and here I've got
Also, strangely enough, I've got some affection for those in that IchiOri fandom who hate me. They're pretty mild about it---cute, almost. If the worst they can do is call me "elitist" and complain about my "ego the size of Texas" then there's not really much for me to get miffed about. The few yaoi fangirls who (for reasons unknown--maybe because I shipped het too, maybe because I wrote their favorite uke seme) went after me last year attacked my parenting, my drawing skills and my purple prose. Yaoi fangirls can be hardcore. They can make a girlie like me cry. IchiOri fans, to make a terrible generalization, tend to be Orihime-ish, full of idealism and naive expectations. Kinda nice to a fault. The battle-worn wives and relationship weary older people I know tend to be in IchiRuki fandoms or in yaoi fandoms---just a personal observation.
You may throw eggs now.
Easter's coming soon, anyway. And with it, the resurrection of Szayel!
Cruising along LJ today I saw a couple people wondering what the title of Kubo's latest chapter could possibly refer to.
Oooh, ooh! *raises hand* I know this one.
When I first read the title, I thought I know this song, isn't it HEAVY METAL? Nope, "Satan From Orbit" tunes didn't start spinning in this old head--and I know my 80s rock like I know my English lit sooooo it was Milton who I thought of next, because in Paradise Lost, Satan is the hero in a journey from Heaven to Hell. As a character Satan spends some time literally orbiting the planets and being snakey, a la Nnoitra (I know everyone's predicting a snake release from our dear Spoony but I honestly hope the guy's dead. If not, like I was telling a friend, his release could be anything from an egg-timer to a SOUP LADLE. No telling with Kubo these days).
I mention Milton not just because I'm on a literary nerd buzz since the call for fandom papers from Transformative Works and Cultures but because Kubo-sensei really is playing hardball with the religious imagery. Paradise Lost is a satirical work full of religious motifs and Satan is its sympathetic protagonist. Yeah, Satan.....
Kenpachi? Nnoitra? Now which one could be Satan? Milton's Satan is the literary forerunner of the Byronic hero--the original "mad, bad, and dangerous to know" type. His story frames the issues of free will, predestination, and what's WRONG with the universe.
I dunno. I was reminded of Aizen's complaint that the throne in heaven had been empty for too long. Milton's Heaven, like Kubo's Soul Society, is a strict hierarchal government, while Hell, not unlike Hueco Mundo, is a place where rebels rule.
As it happens, my husband is on a Milton kick at the moment (he's teaching Hobbes--Milton's Paradise Lost is supposed to be critique of Hobbes' Leviathan). Honest to G-D, there was a print-out article in the house recently called "Satan From Orbit" that I remembered seeing next to Max's motorcycle magazines. After I realized that Bleach was long past the Grimmjow fight and I didn't need to be looking up old glam-rock lyrics anymore, I just HAD to have this essay. It wasn't around. I googled for it and when I asked the husband for his log-in identification to the Milton Quarterly, he said, "don't tell me.... this has something to do with Bleach?"
Yeah.
Maybe I need a vacation more than Kubo does.

And not necessarily Bleach-related, but I know I have some major literary nerds on this comm. A call for papers from a new journal.
Blech, I still need to re-do the tags on this comm.

The Pr0ntober love continues to spread.
cccpirate wrote a loverly IshiHime drabble for me based on the prompt "ouch."
This is too sweet to be pr0N
Meanwhile I have snippets of drabbles I'll probably post later, but the main fandom distraction is that there are no confirmed spoilers out yet for 295 and it's enormous fun to see how far a fandom can run with a hypothetical scenario and a hundred google searches. The religious life-death allusions in Bleach make for irresistable speculation, and I'm only hoping that whatever Kubo comes up with for Nel's release is half as cool as what fans made it out to be yesterday.
Is it naive of me to still be horrified and not amused by public shipping tantrums? Apparently it is a grotesque insult to some IchiOri shippers to call Orihime's love "unrequited." The editors at Shueisha/Jump apparently can get away with calling her love that on the back cover of volume 27 ( "Will Orihime move on from her unrequited feelings for Ichigo?" Is that the quote moreorless ?) but heaven forbid another fan says that. I tippytoe around trying to be polite. I write "unrequited/unresolved" feelings for Ichigo. Eh, why bother with diplomacy when shippers blow fuses over every little thing.
And the person who said that my correlation of Orihime's unrequited love to Ulquiorra's feelings for Hime via the hands parallels (see previous post) was a LEAP was the same person who saw Orihime's volume poem as referring to Ulquiorra's camera-eyeball (as in the line "as he who has no eyes"). *Scratches head* The mad theorists are calling the other mad theorists on mad theorizing?
Also, it's apparently not kosher in the Bleach fandom to be a Nnoitra fan since Nnoi is such a sexist. I see TONS of sexist sigs at the Naruto boards and in other fandoms that don't get a second look. But Bleach is the fandom of Rukia-lovers (It is also the fandom of Kubo Tite's Yoruichi, Nell, Tatsuki and other bad ass babes) so those who put lines such as "Women should be submissive" in their forum signatures should expect to be neg-repped or blasted by those of us on our periods. Haha, I don't neg-rep but I felt sorry for the guy once the fans attacked him. I kinda love Nnoitra myself--he's such a thoroughly low, cheating villain but he's got a cool tongue, fancy shoes and an adorable fraccion.
Oh Red & White, come back, come back from wherever you are.
