I can't be the only fanfic writer whose tongue curls up and whose every neurotic neuron goes totally  WAAAH, so much for that fic fitting into the canon timeline whenever Kubo reveals a little detail that conflicts with one of my stories? Of course I have tolerance for the dissonant alternate universes of Bleaches, even within my own fic---in this one, Ishida loves Orihime, in that one Ichigo, la la la, I am AUTHOR and I do as I please--but lately the flashback chapters have been bombing the hell out of lots of "How Hisagi Got his 69 Tattoo" and other such theories. The stories aren't invalidated of course--good writing stands as good writing, and fanon doesn't have to fit (or even make sense) with Kubo's paradigms in order to be authentic bleachness.

But who else out there is going nuts as your "what if" stories and pre-canon timeline stories are smashed to dust? Writers are compulsive creatures so there's that urge to go back and tweak details---then again, one of the things that makes the canon bombings tolerable is the absolute authority with which Kubo kills your backstory. I've yet to read a fic that was in the canon timeline that was better than Kubo's story. I remember writing the scene where Ryuuken gives Uryuu his powers back simply because I was tired of waiting for it and thinking damn, this is pretty good, I wonder if Kubo can do something this good, and of course, he does leagues better.

Pimping Time. [info]nehalenia  wrote a fic based on my drawing of Ishida with the fireflies: Whatever You Want (IchiIshi, yaoi, NC17). It's ... guh ... gah. And because I didn't properly pimp the fic last time, she also wrote a really delish steaming spring and sweaty bodies fic not long ago called Sword Brothers (RenIshi, yaoi, NC17)

Take heed, Neha's fic isn't for everyone--those of you who won't like it know who you are. But if you want scrumptious, literate, goooood smut, she's your gal.

I'm still trying to learn how to write smut like that. In case you missed it, I'm still interested in responses to The Pr0n Ficcer's Meme. I caught some people filling out the meme in private LJs but it would be cool if you could answer in comments to the original post itself. Thanks.

The only fic I ever wrote that had me down with a really bad case of that was when I was only 18 episodes into Bleach and I wrote something that got shot down about thirty episodes later. I so want to go and delete it now, but I like Zangetsu too much.

However, it would be a very difficult task to write premonitory fics, simply because, well, they're like making prophecies. That, and this is where it gets different to making guesses as to what will happen, it's got to be in a comparable style and tone.
But because they're so damn hard to write, it makes the letting down so much easier to take.

That last tag made me LOL. I'm too new to have had this experience with Bleach yet, but I definitely had a "*&^%$%ASDFGJKL!@#$^" moment after I read volume seven of "Death Note" where the "how to Use" that said that the Shinigami in the Death Note world cannot and are unable to have sex, wither with each other or humans. Shot a hole down my Rem/Ryuk lemon :(

Awww, point me to it. I'll read it. All I ever read in the DN fandom were Light/L bondage smuts.

I actually never got around to writing it...I had the idea floating in my mind, then I bought Volume Seven DXXXX

You are so sweet to keep mentioning my fics. *seriously blushing* I was just happy to have new yummy Ishida pron to write for. (And I thought maybe I should stop torturing him for at least a couple of fics.)

I enjoy basing fics within canon timelines or on canon events (either manga or anime) but once a fic is written, it really doesn't bother me if things don't go that way. Now, if I'm working on a fic or just have an idea for one and something new comes out that switches everything, I would probably either try to incorporate it, or change the fic, or possibly abandon it. That's why I finished up "More Than Nakama" so fast when it looked like they were heading back to check in on the Mayuri-Szayel-Ren-Ishi part; because I *know* that what I wrote isn't going to happen, but it's nice to post it during a time when it's still a possibility. A lot of my ideas, though, spring from something that happens in canon, then go off on a wild "what if" bend. Like the OMFG EVIL little fic that [info]annieroo did about Mayuri taking stock of Szayel's lab and getting awful awful ideas. Which then gave me awful, awful ideas, which I know darn well aren't going to happen, but might be hella fun to investigate.

But then my view on fanfiction is that it's non-canon by its very nature, so I really don't spaz too much about it. Mostly, I want the characterization right.

Pron meme. Sigh. I thought about filling that thing out but I'm not sure I could answer all the questions. Maybe I'll go take another look-see at it.

You know, I think this whole thing is precisely what has always stopped me writing anything about Isshin (and dammit I've meant to for quite some time now). Especially now with the flashback chapters, I feel we might be sooooo close to getting *something* that would either entirely destroy what's been in my head all this time, or maybe sort of go with it and encourage me to finally start.

It was like having Minato and Kushina finally pop up in Naruto the way they did. Completely smashed an old fic I'd started writing about him and Naruto's-Mum when they were kids but thankfully never started posting.

I'm okay when there's a conflict with a story I've already written, but I get very close to throwing things when I get overridden whilst I'm still writing something. I am a stickler for not contradicting cannon, and so my will to complete stories already proven to be void takes a steep nose-dive.

I do still read stuff once it's been contradicted though - I can usually pretend I don't know the more recent data and take the story on, and enjoy where the author's head was at when the piece was written.

one of the biggest reasons I don't write fanfiction. Because I'll get ideas like "wouldn't it be cool if..." and then something completely different happens in the real timeline. The best you can hope for is try to get the characters to act in character, and make the setting fit enough so that it doesn't feel disconnected from the real thing. Though I do have planty of fanart that is contradicted by canon.

I suppose the safest bet would be to only write fnafiction of series that have finsihed. (but that's not as much fun as an ongoing fandom)

It IS fun, isn't it. Fun to read, fun to write. Should be enough. I still get all WAAAAh, though, about contradicting details.

I like your fanfics. I think anyone that critizes your fanfics shouldn't if they can't write one just as good. Fanfics don't have to match up with everything Kubo has going on in the manga or anime to be good.

It's the nature of the beast... that so many wonderful stories just don't go the way of the source material. If the story and writing is good, though, and nehalenia, you are so FTW, it doesn't matter.

I'm full of fail when it comes to fics, but I still did the writer's meme. I've been on a meme thing lately...
