Author Note (optional): Today while I was at work my ponytail holder snapped. So I decided to be like little!Byakuya, and use the two ends to tie my hair into a pony. I learnt a valuable lesson. Bleach + Reality = NO CONNECTION.

There's an interesting discussion going on over at the Orihime FC at BA just now about Orihime's actions on the dome. I'm too full of vacation laziness at the moment but maybe tomorrow when I gather my thoughts about Orihime, I'll make a post. I have this impression that because of the shipping issues, some people may be overlooking a key point in Kylara's infamous Lust Arc essay and that's that Orihime, even she understandably panicked, didn't do all she could within her power on the Dome to save Ishida and stop Ulquiorra. All the words we assign to this non-doing-it-all in her arsenal (not firing Tsubaki or repeatedly using her shield until exhausted) are judgement words: failure, mistake, selfishness, wrongness... One may fall anywhere on the spectrum from 1) believing that Orihime misjudged herself and the situation and understandably lost her wits to  say 10) Kylara's position that this doesn't happen if you're challenged to prove your love for someone; ergo, Orihime doesn't love Ichigo.

Hmmm, well, that was formulating some thoughts a bit. Maybe tomorrow I'll have more. XD

The next bleachness   event is coming up for Valentine's and I've already got a theme ("Breaking Up and Making Up"--now doesn't that sound like fun?) I have had generous offers of prizes already, including LJ accounts and fanarts of your choice to be drawn by gifted artists or fic of your choice to be written by gifted authors but there's also been some interest in having an egalitarian sort of share where people exchange fic. I've seen this latter concept work in Secret Santa memes on other LJ communities or in writing challenges where you sign up by posting a comment (to a general entry describing the event) to say "hi, I write all pairings but x/x and my strength is angst" and the first person to respond to your comment can request a fic. The trick is that if you request a fic you also have to promise to write another for someone in the event. It's a neat way for people to sometimes challenge themselves out of their fic comfort zones if they wish and the lovely part is the community reciprocation but a downside is that I have to get back-up writers in case some people don't meet the deadline for coming through with fics. Actual contests are easier but hmmm, more predictable and we have to have an actual competition and voting, but as always, prizes are nice... and like I say, we have them.

Also, I'm not available for beta-ing or editing fic at the moment. Thanks to those who ask and who value my opinion but family illnesses continue to keep me away from my own fic writing. I wish I could beta more because I like to do that sort of thing and leave my schoolmarmy concrit all over a manuscript. I hope to be more available in the future; I'll let people know when I am.

I understand that Kaname Tousen isn't really a hot-button character. He doesn't have many fans, and while he's regarded as the scrappy, most fans aren't willing to exert the energy necessary to actively hate him. He's something like the vanilla ice cream of fandom, we give him a passing thought when he's right in front of us, but regard him as rather plain, and tend to forget about him once he's gone. Upon finishing that sentence, I realized the irony of comparing Tousen to vanilla ice cream, and in the interest of finding a segue from the unfortunate implications one might interpret from that, allow me to introduce:

Posting this here because I know many of you haven't seen it yet. I missed this (I was napping I guess) when Annie found it the other day--the fourth pic in the 2010 Year of Bleach. It's not just Chad! There are other cute Kurosakis running about! <3 Next up is Orihime and presumbly fifth in line is Ishida (he's always number five, right? LOL) so I'm happy there. If Renji catches the number five nakama position all my numerology is shot to hell. What the hell is Orihime doing anyway? Jumping? Dancing? What will Ishida be doing? XD XD

2010 is supposed to be the year of Bleach - the year with all the spines, extra color spreads, more advertisements and attention from the people who manage Shounen Jump. It's definitely starting with a bang, given that we should see Ichigo versus Aizen soon.

hey there everyone, Annie and I were talking ships the other day and counting up the goodies for the major ships in Bleach insofar as bragging rights go, and she came up with the following list for IchiOri, UlquiHime, and IchiRuki. I thought it might be fun if some of us who followed Bleach in 2009 with shipping goggles for other less popular, less contested ships might want to add our own lists or amend Annie's (I'm going to take issue with her saying that IshiHime didn't have much beyond Ishida being grand in the Lust arc in a comment later and show her what the IshiHime shippers saw--and I KNOW IchiIshi shippers can boast CANON PENETRATION!)

I also tried to find some images for Annie but couldn't find them this morning--like the Ulquiorra calendar chibi (I only have colored versions of him!) that was on the back of the Orihime December month on the 2010 manga calendar. So if folks want to contribute shippy images to this entry, feel free.
