Friday Flock       Rome Burns + Violet Vortex - Leeds - 5th Sept 2008

There's some stuff changing in Leeds. As you may be aware Transmission has now ended and from the 5th September Friday Flock (the irreverent Phono goth/industrial night) will return.

We're also endeavouring to run regular "early door" gigs before Friday Flock, we're treating them as separate to the clubnight (as door prices may vary) although entry to the gigs will always get you into Friday Flock free.

The gigs kick off on the same night as the first Flock, with live sets from both Rome Burns and Violet Vortex. We've also got forthcoming live events organised featuring bands such as Screaming Banshee Aircrew and Cybercide.

If all that wasn't enough, Black Sheep is still Leeds' only weekly goth/industrial night, free entry every Sunday night down the Subculture.

There's more information on all this stuff in the following places:

goth stuff at the Subculture this weekend

The final Transmission is this Saturday!  No more Rose Tyler flyers!  Is that a blessing or a curse?!  Anyway, we've also got a special pre-club gig beforehand which is kind-of free-ish if you're coming to Transmission anyway (in other words it's only £3 and includes entry to Transmission!) so...

    Saturday 9th August:

    Part 1:
Abigail's Mercy + Mourning for Autumn
Doors 8pm, First band onstage 8.30pm
    gig info

    Part 2:
    The final Transmission

    facebook event

While I'm here, the Phono legend that is Friday Flock! will be back from Friday 5th September 2008, see the Flock website for full details. Oh, and we've finally succumbed to the Facebook evil, so to keep up to date with all forthcoming sheepish events (including Screaming Banshee Aircrew coming soon!) why not join our Facebook group?!  Oh go on go on...

    This Saturday in Leeds...

It's the Leeds Secret Goth Night this Saturday!

No bands this month (or Doctor Who related flyers, sadly), just the man from Carpe and the man from the Phono playing all your favourite Goth, Industrial and related tunes (and let's be completely honest, probably a few that aren't your favourites too!) down the Subculture from 10pm.

Request friendly, music to dance to, all the usual.

    10pm - 3am | £3 before 11pm

    ---

Black Sheep is still free entry and every Sunday night (7pm-11pm also down the Subculture), which is nice.

    Transmission + Lahannya gig

It's the Leeds Secret Goth Night this Saturday (shhh! etc) but beforehand we've got a live set from Lahannya - the new band featuring members of Killing Miranda, NFD, Soman and Umbra et Imago. Lahannya play female-fronted dark alternative rock and metal flirting with electro.

Something to do. In Bradford. No, really.
Bad Moon Rising - Bradford's only goth night - is this Thursday and every Thursday at The Mannville Arms.

What is it? Bradford's only goth night! An excuse to get out of the house. A chance to go down the pub for a "quick half", have a natter, and hear some decent tunes.

When is it? Every Thursday, between around 7 and 11.

Where is it? The Mannville was previously The Head, before that it was Scruffy Murphy's, and before that it was, er, The Mannville Arms. Opposite Bradford College at the bottom of Great Horton Road, just above (what used to be) the Queens Hall. About here, in fact. It's a rock/alternative pub, and serves up an excellent range of reasonably-priced drinkies.

What's the music like? Mostly goth, post punk, industrial metal, dark alternative, punk, that kinda thing. With a smattering of 80s and the less banging end of EBM/futurepop.

What's it cost? Nowt. It's just some folk playing CDs in a pub, after all.

    Room to rent in Leeds
    Hi all
This has nothing to do with goth nights, but it does have to do with a goth, so forgive me if this is a bit off topic...I just need a bit of help from people in the know in Leeds.
A friend of mine is going to be spending some time working in Morley over the next few months and wants to rent a room somewhere within a shortish bus/train ride for 4 nights a week, going home at weekends. She's not an LJ user or indeed very competent at finding things out online, so I said I'd try and help her out. Can anyone give me some pointers on where to look (pref online) for ads for rooms for rent? I live in Sheffield and we have a fantastic forum for things like this, but I can't find anything similar in Leeds. Any suggestions?

I'll do a big pimping post next week, but after a slight hiccup Woolstock tickets (weekend and individual days) are now available from Hellraiser, Jumbo and Wednesday's Wardrobe. Apologies if you tried to buy them in person before today. They will also be available, without booking fee, at this weekend's Transmission.

Speaking of which, I entirely forgot to pimp Transmission here, which was very remiss of me!  Here, have a Rose Tyler...

General info regarding nights, bands and future plans... (17/01/2008)
General info regarding nights, bands and future plans... (17/01/2008)

While Black Sheep will be continuing every Sunday night throughout February, due to other commitments we're taking a break from pretty much all other sheepish activity (like organising stuff and booking bands/DJs etc) from now until the beginning of March.

I apologise in advance for the fact that even urgent emails and messages are unlikely to get a reply until the first week of March at the earliest!

    Transmission:
Many thanks to everyone who came to the January Transmission.  It was an impressive start to the year, with almost 100 people though the doors in the first hour alone!  The next Transmission will be on Saturday 8th March 2008.  There will be no Transmission in February, however the Subculture will be running a burlesque night instead.

    Black Sheep:
From February 10th we have a run of special Black Sheep nights, all free entry as usual:

10/02/2008 - Wendyhouse Glenn (DJing all night)
17/02/2008 - Sunday Goth Social (reunion special with Pyromancer & co)
24/02/2008 - Carpe Noctum Special (with DJ GothVodka and co)
02/03/2008 - Heartland Special (with Quiffboy and co)

    Woolstock:
The third Woolstock will be over the weekend of 30th May - 1st June 2008.  It is hoped that the website will be updated before the end of January with a proper announcement regarding at least half of the bands that are playing.

    Bands/Gigs:
The February downtime means that realistically we won't have any bands playing until April at the earliest.  It is tempting to book a gig for the (Black Sheep) Easter Special, but given the timescales we may decide that there isn't adequate time to promote one.  In the longer term the venue is eager for us to return to doing monthly gigs at Black Sheep (given how successful the last two were) and there's also the potential for running Saturday "early doors" live events before Transmission.

    -----

As we've got a bit of downtime planned, it seemed a good idea to write a proper update so that people know what will be going on in the coming months!  This is probably also a good time to thank everyone who actually came along to, or helped run, the sheepish events in 2007... including the launch of Transmission, the return of Black Sheep, the gigs and the second Woolstock!
