GPAC's Academic Internship Program is designed to give students and youth an opportunity to work with the only national organization working to guarantee every American's right to express their gender free from stereotypes. Interns can expect to benefit professionally from this opportunity while making substantial contributions to the organization's work.
The Gender Public Advocacy Coalition works to ensure that classrooms and communities are safe for everyone to learn, grow, and succeed - whether or not they meet expectations for masculinity and femininity.

• Development
• Research

Application Deadline:
August 15th
We encourage you to get your application in as early as possible so that we can begin the interview process well before your internship starting date. You can submit an application at any time, but please be aware that we may not be able to process late applications unless additional spots become open.
The majority of internships are for academic credit and unpaid.

Hi! (I hope this is allowed, if not feel free to delete :))
I just joined this comm, to see if there was anyone in Blacksburg interested in japanese lolita fashion.
The reason I ask, is because June 7 is International Lolita Day, and me and one of my friends were considering going downtown that day for tea, shopping, etc, and wanted to see if anyone else was interested, or had heard of it.
We will be dressing in our frilly finest that day, and shooting pictures, hopefully around town and campus. If anyone expresses interest, perhaps we could meet and talk. :D

The following is an email from Neal Turner, Emergency Services Coordinator for Montgomery County:
I am not trying to frighten or alarm you, but I know all of you have small children (or know someone with small children) in nearby daycares, and I wanted to be sure this information got passed along. I provided a link below to the picture and info of a convicted sex offender that contacted the daycare where Nikki (my daughter) works—yesterday. He said his name was “Mark” and told her he had just gotten custody of his 4 year old daughter and was interested in day care for her. He even went as far to make an appointment for a tour on Wednesday. He then called back a second time and told Nikki he was interested in daycare on the weekends and asked her if she was interested. She, not knowing any better, gave him our home phone number to contact her. After she talked to him for a few minutes—he started to give her the creeps. He called our house last night and I spoke with him….he told me that his daughter was 11 years old. Needless to say, he also freaked me out. He had blocked his number at the daycare, but wasn’t smart enough to do that at my home and I found him on the Virginia Sex Offender Registry.
I sent an email to a state police lieutenant last night and have left a message with his probation officer this morning. The lady I spoke with at the probation office said he was being watched. Nikki found out this morning that he had also contacted Tiny Treasures in Christiansburg yesterday.
I just want to inform you and make you aware. Please pass this information along to your daycares. Here is the link:

Hi,
Despite having lived here in Blacksburg for almost 10 years now, I have never had my hair cut here. I'm looking for a nice place that will do a quality job on a simple cut and where the stylists are well trained enough that they could answer questions I have about the style I want and be able to make suggestions. So what's everyone's favorite place? Thanks

Hey guys!
It's coming up on me and my boyfriend's anniversary, and I wanted to know if you guys had any advice for a really good restaurant to go to for our special anniversary dinner on the 16th (a Sunday). The place we were currently thinking about was the Farmhouse Restaurant in Christiansburg. If anyone's been there, what did you think of it?
Any other places anyone can think of? We're trying to avoid the typical family restaurants like Applebee's, Macado's, Olive Garden and whatnot. Something special is definitely key since this is a special occasion for us.

Looking for something to do? Want to hear something different?
The nationally-known T.O.U.C.H. Samadhi collective from Asheville, NC, (www.touchsamadhi.com) will be playing at the Cafe at Champs Saturday night, starting at 10:00. They'll be playing some of the wildest psychedelic electronic music you'll ever hear on a nice, big, custom-built soundsystem. We're going all-out on psychedelic decor and video projections. Expect to have your mind blown, or at least to just dance your ass off. ;) And it's only five bucks! It's a great deal for something unique as this, and it goes to support our hard-working DJs.
