I consider myself a conservative, and I have liked McCain since 2000, when he ran against Bush in the primaries, but Barack Obama is very, very hard to dislike. His speech today--in response to revelations of controversial statements made by Rev. Jeremiah Wright, his "spiritual advisor"--was, I thought, exactly what it should be.

Can someone put away they beliefs/ideals to do the job correctly?

And if so, are they really beliefs/ideals if you do not uphold them at all times?

Should this person be allowed to become surgeon general or even be considered, whether or not he compromises his "ethics"?

My thoughts.. )

Since no one is posting, I'll post this remotely related article. It's really hard these days to tell two people apart :|

I am in a traveling play about the death penalty (and other things). One of the stops was a Noi community center.

The play has a multiethnic (black and white), and the play also had a theme about racial unity. The people there seemed very open to the play and they didn't seem to treat the white people any different than the black people in the play. At the end they gave the cast a standing ovation.

I am mostly posting this because when people post on here about the NOI, it's always negative and they view them as racists.

After actually being in contact with them in mixed company, I find it really hard to see them as racists.

Does any one who post negatively/pro about them have any first hand views of them?

Are white people allowed to watch the Boondocks on cartoon network? (this is the non-serious part)

I had no idea this was a show because I only remember seeing the comic strip. But every episode is like hilarious while at the same time making social commentary. My only problem with the show is that it's only on saturdays late night.

And this story doesn't:

http://workingclassconservative.blogspot.com/2007/02/whys-duke-hoax-national-news-story-but.html

Do you think it's for the same reasons as the author, i.e. that this is a black-on-white hate crime, and thusly, gets no attention, or is it for other reasons? If so, elaborate.

'"Just leave the names alone, for crying out loud," he said. "It's not meant to be demeaning and that term's been there forever. There must have been a reason for people of European descent to call places that. It probably wasn't a nice reason but we can't keep whitewashing history. A geographic name should reflect the story that brought it about."'

I think it's funny that he used the term whitewashing..

But seriously, if someone can give me a valid explanation as to why and how a geographic name reflects the story that brought it about, then maybe I won't find this guy and his statement utterly ridiculous.

Unless my geology class was lying, most of the creeks and rivers in America have been around before white people got here...and didn't come about because of some stereotype that is offensive to natives.

[info]masterhong's --) Post (-- reminded me of something I wanted to discuss.

The Australian Prime Ministers words on Barak Obama...why single him out?

Hillary wants to pull the troops out of Iraq (note, that she flip-flopped...or as republicans say "Waffled" on that issue), so has pretty much all of the democratic candidates so far...so why attack Barak?

Is it because he's black?
Is it because that from an Australian standpoint it looks like Barak is in the lead?

Those are the only two off the top of my head.

Now, I'm not a big fan of Obama (I don't want the troops pulled out of Iraq, we need to send more, I was a Marine, I know these things), but I might actually vote for him because a) Christain Republicans are affecting my rights as an individual, b) Republicans won't vote for the right candidate, McCain and c) I don't want Hillary to win...

www.NiggaSpace.com

According to "Tyrone" on the welcome page:

"This site is in no way meant to be racist.

A common endearing term used by many black people is, "nigga" not to be confused with a different and offensive term, "nigger". The word, "nigga" is in rap songs, daily conversations, on TV, etc. yet the word still has so much mixed emotions attached. One of my intentions is for this word to no longer have such mixed emotions. Part of my intention for this site is for the word nigga to embody images of brotherhood, and fraternity rather than images of ignorance and hate.

How great would it be, if the mixed emotions that this word carries along with it, were stripped down to something more positive? Only positive.

Of course there are going to be two sides to this, but just know that intentions are noble. So create an account, and start the revolution!

-Tyrone

Now this site seems to be created, run and maintained by Black people, yet inevitably, some militants want to blame White people for it. http://community.livejournal.com/blackfolk/4434204.html?thread=85687324#t85687324

Discuss, or for those of you [you know who you are] get on my ass for even daring to discuss this topic, as if I need permission.

If anyone hurts Senator Obama, we'll commit murder and kill innocent human beings just for being White

I especially loved this guy, who will kill those who pay his salary because of their skin color:

"p.s. And I will personally make it a point to mow down each and everyone of you bitches I see on the street with the same limo I drive yourbad-ass spoiled kids to school in every weekday.

Your driver, Claude."

Have you ever felt like comparing the slavery of black Americans to the plight livestock and the use of husbandry methods? Have you ever seen the similarities because the Holocaust and a year in the slaughterhouses? Do you find it funny to see a woman in a fur coat beaten (furisdead.com)?

Then veganism might be your window to bigotry!

I've brought this up before, but I want to know how people who face real racism feel about the claims of the "average" vegan fundamentalist claim that in 100 years we might feel the same way about animals as we did about American slaves. Or if there are any vegans/vegetarians on here who make that claim themselves, I'd like to know what you think as well.

Is it as bad as it sounds? Or are vegans right in their assertion that it's okay to show violence and make strong comparisons to get their point across?
