Bad Racist Reporting By Time.com, CBS, CNN and many others
Remember this?

Well......

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070621/ap_on_re_us/crash_assault

* It was a little boy who got hit not a little girl
* they said there were 2,000 to 3,000 people in the area then police spokeswoman Toni Chovanetz said only 20 people were in the area where the assault occurred.
* Chovanetz also said there was no connection to the nearby city-sponsored festival for Juneteenth, which commemorates Texas slaves getting the word that they had been freed. But every major News Outlet reported it as if this was the case.
* They misspelled Booker T.'s name "Broker" in these same reports.
* They said that there were 20 attackers, but now they say "there could have been anywhere from two to 20 attackers"

Oh I bet Time and CNN and every other web site that ran this story felt good about getting the exclusive about what "those people" were up to now.

I feel sad for everyone who was injured in this incident: but I'm also sick and tired of these people who report the news jumping to conclusions about my people. I mean if a murder happens on Saint Patrick's day they don't assume the white people are rioting. And that was the implication-- in the way the story was originally reported.

I *just* got out of my car 5 mins. ago where they were reporting on this story on the radio...guess which story they went with?

All participants were there for Juneteenth
Little *girl* got hit
20 people attacked them

...sigh...

Thank you for this.

Will they go back and correct their mistake? I doubt it.

Oh, my God, I'm watching Fox News right now. The sheriff is desperately trying to clarify this information (basically what you are saying in th post) and the anchorwoman's questions are so self-righteous and insinuating... It's unbelieveable. The anchorwoman's outro went like this: "What exactly is this Junetenth celebration? When we come back, we'll look at the history." Bitch made it sound like the mysterious rights of a satanic cult. They even showed video of some "dangerous" looking black boys, but I don't even think it was from the Juneteenth celebration. It was just random footage.

Were any of those news networks there or were they relying on sources to give them their information?

The copy was all the same. They need to do a little fact checking IMNSHO.

They probably did, and had no reason to believe that the facts they were being given weren't actually facts.

Fact checking means finding another source. When I say this I thought "no way" and I was right they should have done the same thing.

That's really easier said than done. And it's not like their sources were random guy on the street, it was the cops and likely local news organizatons. Maybe it's lazy, but it's kind of hard to do heavy fact checking on something that happened in Texas when you're in New York.

My point is they would not have made this mistake if it was murder that happened at some other non-black event. There is a this *effort* to ties violence to gathering of black people. It's just racist an annoying. There isn't any excuse for that and I'm not going to just forgive and forget. Be more careful. There are new outlets who didn't report it in this way or who waited for the fact. Some are STILL posting the wrong information.

They just don't care, and things like this just fan racial tension and for no reason.

Thanks for the clarification. This pisses me off. The original story is still running in many places. I just read it on MSN this morning and the implication is still that it was an angry mob of Juneteenth participants.

Now I don't like this kind of talk. You know that some people "take" but others "loot" It's just a fact of life.
