The Charlotte "Chuck" Charles Style Guide: Part 1

Since premiering in the Autumn of 2007, Pushing Daisies has won its way into the hearts of tv viewers everywhere for being something individual for once, conjuring up comparisons to Amelie and the films of Tim Burton, it's a quirky romp into a magical world of romance and well, pies.

Anna Friel stars as Charlotte "Chuck" Charles who, in my opinion, is one of the best dressed gals to hit tv since Mary Tyler Moore (heck yes, I said MTM). And since the Writer's Strike has been depriving me of my PD, I decided to put this "get the look" guide together. Here we go . . .

X-posted to quite a few places. I'll be working on Parts 2 and 3 later, but for now I must sleep.

This post is cute I want to hug it. I've only seen a few episodes of Pushing Daisies, but I love the vibrant colors in the photography and art direction.

aww i want to hug YOU. did you ever get my phone number? i wish you woulda called. do you get really busy and not go online much when you're here? that would explain our lack of communicating while you're here. and our lack of planning.
when you met wandie were you nervous? or joahina? i will be nervous to meet you! i have no idea what you think of me but whatever it is i will be like i hope this girl is cool. :)

You're so funny. I get insanely busy whenever I'm in LA and tend not to spend much time at home, and even less time is spent online. I never really get nervous in social situations. We'll hang out soon; I'm pretty confident about that one, and I'm definitely confident that we'll get along, too!

i always say i'll be nervous because i always am like right up until the meeting but then once we're together in the same room breathing the same nasty air i'm fine and its like the sanest situation you can imagine. im really down to earth (so i hear)
im glad you are too. jealous (but glad for you) that you dont get anxiety attacks beforehand, though. in ny i was so much braver/saner.

Am I the only one who thinks every thing about this show is just awful? Including the clothing?

i've never seen the show, but judging from the photos of this "chuck" person, i think the style is really costume-y and looks dated. like a period piece, but without anything fresh to revive it. am i wrong? im just going by these photos of the character.

to be fair, I'm rather critical but I watched an entire episode of this show wanting to like it. It's obnoxious, badly acted, etc etc. and her clothing is so incredibly gimmicky! the wardrobe is overly stylized and cutesy and almost as obnoxious as the dialog of the show.

i can already tell what you mean. i think the original poster gets an A for effort and if i were into the characters style id love this post but yes, i do agree that the wardrobe looks gimmicky and over done.

The point of Chuck's wardrobe is that she's trying to conceal her identity because she's supposed to be dead.

And everything is very vintage and kind of throwback-y, because it's a throwback to old romance. And Chuck lived a life of seclusion with her aunts before she died, kind of living in a time warp in a very retro house full of antiques so she was never really "modern".
If you think it's costumey or cheesy (to the OP), whatever, that's cool. But I love the show, I love how she dresses, and I know a lot of other people who do.

I completely agree. It was a nice concept and I looked forward to it during its season premiere, but I can't endear myself to it. Its something to watch if there's nothing else on, but other than that, its rather dull and there's nothing "quirky" or "unique" about it.

It's got some very 1950's vibes to it, there's a definate mixture of old and new. For example, on the streets there are a large amount of classic cars with new VW bubbles mixed in.
The show itself is quite camp and costumey, it's brilliant and adorable though. Although, obviously, each to their own!

i love chuck's style. i am not sure i would wear it, but it is nice to know these things for dressing up, i suppose :)
it's too bad the show's stories are getting a bit boring :( i really loved the first five episodes or so, though.

Oh there are definitely those, but I just think of those girls as extraneous visual trash. I'm thinking about the girls who wear head to toe vintage thinking it makes them look super styling, rather than simply costume-y.

for the cost they're just fine -- it's just like getting shoes from Forever21 or wherever. they don't exactly stand the test of time (they tend to be made of cheap materials -- fake "patent leather" that peels in time, the rubber "feet" on the end of the heels often pop off), but for the price they're decent I think. I have several pairs that have lasted me a couple years.

I habitually shop urbn for these types of items, but I can already tell I love GoJane, Welovecolors, and Ballyhoovintage! Yay!

Yes! I love this show so much, and I love Chuck's style. She makes me want to wear old-school dresses so badly. But none I can find fit me the way her wardrobe fits her.
