How to move photos out of 8310?
I am sorry for my ignorance. My fault - I didn't read the manual, but I don't trust it anyway.
What is the easiest way move photos from Blackberry 8310 to a computer via USB cable or web connection?
I plugged in the BB to USB to Win XP, it XP failed to recognize BB as a drive on one computer, did recognize it on another, but still doesn't open the BB as a removeable drive. The drive is there, just doesn't open.
Installed BB desktop manager (the options are incomprehensible), but I tried both options - both Enterprise server and internet sync. Neither one helped getting to the photos. I don't use outlook - I use Thunderbird with gmail as IMAP and Google calendar. Therefore all syncronization with Outlook is useless for me. I just want to get the photos from the BB to my computer.
I saw somewhere on the web, that I should go to settings in BB and allow it to be used as a removeable storage, but I don't see that option in settings.
Please help me figuring out how to move photos from BB.
Uploading them to Picasa would work too, but I don't see a solution for that yet.

Also, is there a way to import email addresses from Thunderbird or Gmail to BB? Is there a way to edit BB's address book on a PC?

It's very important you read the below information and follow the instuctions in order to use your Desktop Manger to install 3rd party apps or themes.

The Desktop Manager is one program
The Handheld O.S (operating system) is another DIFFERENT program.
BOTH need to be installed on the pc in order for the Desktop Manager to work.

Issue:
When trying to load applications or themes via Desktop Manager you get an error stating
"No additional applications were found for your device".

Resolution:
Download your Handheld O.S (operating system). The download is free from your Carriers web site.

Install the O.S on your PC, plug the blackberry into pc, open Desktop Manager and run application loader (if not prompted)

Note:
i would uninstall any previous Blackberry O.S's that you may have on your PC, in add/remove programs in your control panel.

basically you need the blackberry handheld software to make the blackberry desktop manager work. then when you have both downloaded on your computer, you can use the media manager to move or add any files on or off of your blackberry device. hope i helped.

Thank you! I think I have installed both. At least I see BB device manager and BB desktop manager and desktop manager is able to connect with blackberry.
I don't see any media manager anywhere. Where is it?

Are you using a media card (add-on product)? If so, you may want to go to Options/Media Card and set the following settings:

Media Card Support - On
Mass Storage Mode Support - On
Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected - Yes

This should help with the device showing up as a removable drive on your PC.

The 8310 itself has a very limited amount of available space and when you put apps on there you start limiting your picture folder pretty fast. I purchased a 2 GB Micro SD Card for something like $20 and have my camera automatically store pictures there. Then you can also just take the micro SD card and put it in a card reader on your PC (if you have one) to pull the pics.

Hope this helps.

Yep, I just realized that about 20 minutes ago. It is a shame, this information is not on the surface - I had to dig it out hard way...

To answer your question about Thunderbird/Gmail...

Gmail does have a BlackBerry App you can get from their website or from BlackBerry's website...

http://www.google.com/mobile/mail/index.html

This will show all emails still on the server with GMail. If you're using Thuderbird with IMAP settings (all your email stays on Google's server) then this would be a perfect solution.

If you want to edit BB's address book on your PC you're going to need to get the Desktop App working and then choose to sync with Thunderbird/Outlook's address book. To my knowledge there's no other way to "edit" the phonebook from your PC.

Hope that helps.

Thanks! I ended up using Outlook Express for Address book editing and syncing afterwards. This was very slow and inconvenient. I am still looking for a easier to use address book application.
My current addresses are in thunderbird (emails) and in Word file (phones).

It's not a one-step solution, but in the Thunderbird address book, you can select an address book (or possibly only certain addresses in an particular addressbook), then choose "Tools->Export...", and export to an LDIF file. The Windows Address book (which you should be able to launch from somewhere in the accessories folder of the start menu, without going through Outlook Express) should be able to import this LDIF file. Then you can sync with your blackberry using the Desktop Manager.

You should also be able to do the reverse, as well: Sync with WAB, export LDIF from WAB, then import the LDIF file into Thunderbird. That way you can still keep the "master" list in Thunderbird and do your editing, there.

Cheers!
