About
Welcome to [info]birdvolunteers! This community was made thanks to a suggestion by [info]lyosha that there are quite a few of us who do this work. Now all of us rehab volunteers have a community where we can babble endlessly about "our" birds without annoying the heck out of our friends lists. ;)

This community is aimed at volunteers of avian rehabilitation and education centers, where injured birds are taken for treatment and/or nonreleaseable birds are kept to educate the public. For the most part this means raptors, but it goes for any other rehab birds as well.

For now the community is open to anyone who wants to join, even if you're not a volunteer but just plain interested. If you have questions about what it takes to find a place to volunteer, maybe we can help you out. :) Hopefully we don't have to worry about troublemaking, so I'll just not talk about that yet. ;)

Community Rules

1. If you post large images (especially horizontally large), please put them behind an lj-cut. If you don't know how to lj-cut, check out the FAQ. For now I leave the definition of "large" up to your own judgement. And if you have a lot of pictures, please use an lj-cut for the majority; I'd say if you have more than three, either hyperlink to them ("a href=" etc) or put them behind a cut. I may have a decent-resolution monitor and broadband connection, but not everyone is so lucky. ;)

2. If you have gripes about management at your center, please don't name names. I don't want anyone to inadvertantly get in trouble. :) In fact, best to keep griping to an absolute minimum; there's plenty of other communities where you can do that, and share it here only if it's a gripe only fellow bird volunteers would really understand.

3. If you have any issues with another member of the community, please act maturely. I don't think this will be an issue, but you never know.

4. Not so much a rule as a request; when talking about your birds, remember that not everyone is as familiar with them as you are, and give us a clue as to who and what they are. It's nice to read a paragraph about Cecil's flight training, but even nicer if you remind us that Cecil is a barn owl.

I think that's about it. :) Have fun, everyone!
