Merry Meet!

I was introduced to this community recently by a friends who's opinions I respect. I've been browsing/lurking for a week or so, and figured it was time to 'come out' so to speak.

By way of general introduction, I'm a married 40 year old with an 18 year old daughter in college. I live in the Mid Atlantic area in a nice, tree lined middle class neigborhood where fortunately the neigbors don't mind that the folks at 202 are a 'bit unusual'. I work in the mortgage industry and so of course, due to current market conditions, I drink a lot :D.

Bi/Poly: My first crush was on a girl, and my first kiss was from a girl. I cannot recall a time when I did not appreciate the female form, but until recently just found the right companions in men. I've been mostly happily married to the same guy for 20 years now with no regrets. A few years ago however, I met a woman that turned me inside out. Long story short, after a few years of dancing around it we finally acted on the undeniable attraction between us. It was wonderful! My husband was OK with it, and was involved as well.

We are no longer involved with this woman [a mutual agreement made in love and respect for good reasons] but the experience DID open a Pandora's Box for me.

My husband and I have discussed it and he is supportive of me pursing a woman [with or without his involvment] as long as we maintain open and honest communication about it. Until recently it was all an academic discussion anyway because I'd not really met another woman I was interested in being intimate friends with. That MAY have changed..we shall see. I already know she's a pretty good kisser!

Pagan: I'm a solitary practioner of electic Left Hand Paganism. I dilike the appelation "Witch" because even now it carries a lot of conotations I just don't want to be asociated with, and not just the warts and pointy hat [have one, not the other :)]. I DO believe in a Higher Power, and believe that "The God/desses are all manifestations of the Divine. I don't have a problem with Christ, or Muhammad, or Buddah, or The Bab, or any of the enlightened people that have come along and tried to give Human Kind a hand. I DO have a problem with organized religion and religion as an excuse to control and abuse people, on a small scale or a global one. i do what I can to support Pagan rights, AND Human rights, and to live a 'sacred life'. I'm not perfect at any of it, but it's about the journey, not the destination.

I do occasionally participate in Wiccan/Pagan workshops and festivals, and can sometimes be found at ASW rituals and workshops although I do not follow thier tradition. Hopefully the husband and I will be attending the "Fall Frolic" Pagan Gathering in PA in September.

At the same time I met the woman I spoke of earlier, I had a pretty intense religious experience [details available upon request LOL] and have since then been working primarily with Kali as my Avatar of the Divine. Not an EASY path, but one that has helped me grow quite a bit.

Geek: Mainly a history and gamer geek. I've been involved with the SCA for over a decade and with RPG's for more than twice that. I've written novels about some of my characters that THANKFULLY will never see publication. I've played D&D, GURPS, Chill, Flashing Blades, Star Wars, Call of Cuthulu, Shadow Run [a favorite], VTM, ....oh...I should stop now huh? LOL. Currently I'm between gaming groups but some of my friends are after me to run a VTM game 'old school' style. I'm still considering it. I've done a little with board and card based game systems, but with the exception of MUNCHKIN they just don't do it for me. Give me dice and the smell of paper, DM screens and the sounds of furiouly turning pages as the GM smiles!!

My husband and I are also students of the Victorian/Edwardian era, both the historical and the Darkly Romantic. When we can we take pleasure in spending time in a couple of the nearby metropolitan areas "Gothic" scenes. Alas, since this means a drive of several hours, you can find us hauting local cemeteries, tea rooms, and antique stores to get our 'fix'

I also enjoy reading about and exploring anciet Egypt, Greece and Rome, The British Isles, the Far East, Indo-Asia, the list is pretty long. I guess as long as it's NOT American and happened at least 100 yrs ago I'd probably look into it!! LOL. I belong to a couple of local preservation committees.

So that's a glimpse of me. Hope no one fell asleep reading, and feel free to check out my journal and friend me if you like.

I know we have WoW and CoH players out there...

But do any of you play Vanguard?

My dear lady and I have recently started playing and found it a refreshing change from WoW.

Anyhow, if you do, and you're on Seradon, feel free to harass Anastasius, Bhindi or Gnoard.
Another Bloody Intro Post

Well, I've been "lurking" for a long time, and I decided today to finally post an intro and let ya'll know I'm about.

I'm a married 28 year old Male just outside Syracuse NY in the Upstate New York region.

Bi: Me? Nope. My wife? Very. For me it's just something I've never been interested in, for my wife it's just a fact of life.

Poly: Yes, and been practicing openly for a short amount of time. Me and my wife have been poly for years, just never had a name to put on it until recently. The openly part is that now we don't bother to hide the fact from most of our friends.

Kinky: Me this is a definite. My wife, not so much. I'm a Dom that enjoys many many forms of kink and love exploring new ones. I'll admit I haven't had much experience in the world of kink, but I'm I'm learning every day.

Pagan: Not exactly? Me and my wife are, as some put it, Christo-Pagans. I'm sure I don't need to explain that to this group and we'll leave that be.

Gamer: HELL YES! Both of us are pretty hardcore gamers. We play all kinds of RPGs and just about any game we can get our hands on. Our current MMO of choice is CoH on the Virtue server.

Geek: You bet cha. I'll admit I'm much more of a geek then my wife is, but she's not too far behind me. My interests are wide and varied, so don't be afraid to bring up anything!

Well, It seems like we have two good ideas going for about the same time, but one is cheaper and we'll go with that, with the other as a little extra for those interested.

A great idea, courtesy of Amy, a new member of the poly group.

Cleveland Metroparks: Walking Works

This is an outdoor event so there is a contingency plan in case of inclement weather.

Best to watch the yahoo group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NEOPoly if there is a question. Amy will post @ 9:00 that morning.
---------------------------------------
Basic Plan:

Sunday, August 3 @ 10am. North Chagrin, Hickory Fox Loop Trail (1.6miles)

If you want, pack picnic lunches or something else to make for a longer time to hang out. It looks like there are enough connecting trails around to make as long or as short of a walk as anyone is up for.

Meet at the parking area at the intersection of Buttermilk Falls Parkway, and Ox Ln. If you are coming from Som Ctr Rd (91), turn into the metro parks at Sunset Lane (across from White Rd). Turn Right onto Buttermilk Falls Parkway. Park in the parking areas near the bridge - probably on the side closer to where Ox Ln splits off to the left.

Just use this whole "address" in google maps (copy all of the bold text)... *Metro Parks Buttermilk Falls Pkwy
@41.565090, -81.434300 *or this link: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=525006948867755661,41.565090,-81.4\34300&saddr=41.569866,-81.439354&daddr=Metro+Parks+Buttermilk+Falls+Pkwy+%4041.5\65090,+-81.434300&mra=mi&mrsp=0,1&sz=16&sll=41.568438,-81.434419&sspn=0.007353,0\.013218&ie=UTF8&z=16

The link above is directions from [the intersection of Sunset Lane and Som Ctr Rd] to [the parking area], but you can certainly change the starting address.
---------------------------------------
Contingency Plan in case of thunderstorms.:

Starbuck's on SOM Center, just north of Mayfield Road and the west side of the street. Any other coffee-location suggestions for in case of T-storms?

---------------------------------------

Supplemental, if anyone is interested.

Vintage Ohio on Saturday, August 2, 2008 - Rallying time and location details to be worked out.

http://www.visitvintageohio.com/

One of the easiest (and least loud) places to find is Loretta Paginini Cooking School, where demonstration go on all day.
Altering your own sex toys...

Hey guys, I know I haven't been too active. I've been working, getting all my crap done to go to college in the fall, and pursuing a love interest that I now really have a possibility with. I know none of those are really valid excuses. I'm trying to return to all of my online communities lately. You're not the only ones I've been neglecting horribly.

So, my predicament is this.
I recently bought a strap on dildo. It's comfy as hell, I do really like it, but because of the design, the dildo's not interchangeable! I have plans to alter it to include a backplate and rid the poor thing of it's snaps for the current dildo. I have some ideas myself, but I was wondering if you guys had anything to suggest.
I probably wouldn't be doing this if it weren't for the material of the dildo. It's a rubbery type material that feels like it's supposed to simulate skin, but it has a soft foam core. While I', sure it would make due if I wasn't to...vigorous, I would like the option of switching the dildo out without having to buy a new harness. Also it gives me a very fun project to work on and possibly an excuse to buy all sorts of new tools.

So, here's a picture of the harness.

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa170/Kittani_Ricalante/underwear003.jpg

There is a debate going on in a friend's journal over Alan Moore's interview with EW magazine about Moore's ego.

One of his comments has me wondering about the different types of media and what they have to offer and how they differ.
In your opinion what does one type of media; books, movies, comics, offer its audience that the others don't?

I prefer books over movies. 90% of the time I abhor what a movie does to a book. The 2 exceptions that come to mind are A Time to Kill and To Kill a Mockingbird. In the movie version of A time to Kill, I like the movie ending better than the book, in To Kill a Mockingbird, I thought the movie stayed very true to the book.

One of my sweeties told me about this community. He said I didn't have to introduce myself, but I figured it never hurts to get to know like minded people a little better.

Name: Tonya
Loc: near Chicago, IL
Age: 40
Gender: F

Bi: Just past curious at this point. I have a girlfriend and we are expolring what that means together. It helps A LOT having people understand your past experiences and fears.

Poly: ustmistress said it REALLY well so I'm gonna steal some of her words. "I enjoy what poly allows: intimacy and love within a framework of people. Responsible non-monogamy interests me more everyday." Poly is, for me, a way to express the feelings I have for my family (note I did NOT say relatives).

Kinky: I'm still finding out what I like, but I do enjoy bondage, some pain, having a good top and temperature (cold) play.

Gamer: I have been gaming since 1978 when my parents ceased my complaining and bought me the little blue box with books and dice in it! I love RPGs and play them whenever I can. WoW, CoH and Pirates of the Carabean are the most popular in my house right now. I also like tabletop and card-based games.

Geek: I am a nerd and computer geek. I program for a living, and have 3 degrees in computer management. Star Wars, Star Trek, Farscape, Firefly, Battlestar Galactica, Dr. Who, Torchwood... There are just a few of my favorites.

Pagan: Celtic Druid! Tree hugger from WAY back. I think I discovered my roots (pun intended) when I was about 11.

Hello all you good peoples!

Name: Katie
Loc: Indianapolis, IN
Age: 31
Gender: F

Bi: Curious. One good physical experience has given me the urge and desire to have more.

Poly: I enjoy what poly allows: intimacy and love within a framework of people. Responsible non-monogamy interests me more everyday, after watching more and more relationships fail. I'm not sure the fairy tale "happily-ever-after" thing is actually supposed to work in the long run. Currently still in love with ex-bf, but working on it. Wouldn't mind ending up in a triad or vee with him. Currently seeking new friends with possibilities.

Kinky: I enjoy assplay and bondage mostly.

Gamer: Still love the old Atari games (play on PS2 now), enjoy Munchkin and other card-based games, as well as more traditional board games and sudoku/puzzle games.

Geek: Always have been, always will be. Grew up (still working on it!) watching Star Trek, Buffy, X-Files, Quantum Leap, etc. Straight A student through fourth grade, where my first B caused a weepy walk home. Honor student and brown-noser extraordinaire.

Pagan: Not exactly pagan, but open to more than one type of spirituality. Grew up Catholic (yikes).

pagangeek

So, I have one friend and occasional lover who is very much a skeptic, and he often asks me how I can be pagan (or spiritual, for that matter) and still be as scientifically minded as I am.

I have my reasons, my ways of thinking about it, but I'm curious to hear yours.

So, three questions:
(1) In what ways are you a geek?
(2) In what ways are you pagan, or spiritual?
(3) How do you reconcile your spirituality with your geeky side?

Gay Torchwood

The guy who plays Cap'n Jack on Torchwood is supposedly in some manner of BBC documentary entitled "The Making of Me." In it, he subjects himself to a series of tests to determine whether nature or nurture made him gay. He says he advises parents of gay kids to watch the program to get a better understanding.

It airs next Thursday.

While John Barrowman (Capt. Jack) was doing a signing at a convention, "This father brought his son over and he said, 'Do you want Captain Jack's autograph?' and the kid said, 'Yeah, Dad, I don't care if he likes boys, he's still my hero.'"

We've come along way. I knew Jack was a positive gay role model - (gays finally being represented outside of tragic cowboy and comic relief roles). Still, reading those words really sent a gong off in my brain. I don't care if he likes boys, he's still my hero.

Wow.

Apparently, upon hearing the child say these words, Barrowman thought to himself, "That's why I'm doing this."

I don't blame him for feeling that way.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/showbiz/latest/2008/07/15/dr-who-star-john-barrowman-on-being-born-gay-89520-20644273/

Hi everyone! I'm here because I followed discipuladc. I was nearly too shy to introduce myself, but she's managed to encourage me. :D

Lessie, this community is for people who are:

Bi- I've identified as bisexual since I was in high school, although I don't really wear it on my sleeve. It usually doesn't occur to me that people don't identify me as bisexual, but that doesn't make me unhappy. The people who know are the people who matter
Poly- I am not poly-amorous; my husband is my one and only love. That being said, he and I are both insatiable flirts and believe in flirtation as a hobby. And there's nothing wrong with having close friends.
Kinky- I'm submissive, although you might never guess upon meeting me.
Pagan- I am not religious, although I am spiritual. I worship privately and personally, although I'm always wiling to discuss religions and philosophy. I favor the Greco-Roman and Egyptian pantheons.
Gamer- My first love will always been text-based adventure games (I'll always have a soft spot for Son of Stage Fright!). I insatiably devour PC adventure games, usually playing them once and passing them on to someone else. I dabble in dice games, like the Harry Potter RP that discipuladc runs. But really, any board games will do. I love the group aspect.
Geek- I've always been an information sponge. I know about a great deal about things I'm interested in and not very much about things I'm not interested it. My mental attic is sorted in a rather Homesian fashion. My training is in theater and performance, although library science was a second choice for me. I'm a singer and a songwriter with the ability of pack fifteen pounds of lyrics into a five pound verse. I love big words. I work at the Renaissance Faire. As a costumer, I delight in taking aspects of history and making modern garments. I own more books than I probably deserve to. I . . . should probably stop now.

Yup, that about covers it. Hi everyone!

Slut Spelunking

Well, not actually spelunking, since no caves were involved and it hasn't even required a lot of digging. But the word interests me for varying reasons. There are at least two cultures that embrace it positively

1) The Reclamation Culture -

Initiated to some extent by "The Ethical Slut". The perspective is "Sure I'm a slut. EVERYONE should probably be one. There is no reason why engaging in a mutually consensual pleasurable activity should generally be discouraged. Looks like a win-win and a great model for all of societies undertakings.

2) Humiliation Kink -

Taking the residual transgressive aspect of it, with the inherent elevated (physiologically defined) arousal level, and eroticizing it - in some ways not much different from being chased in a game of cops'n'robbers. This isn't too far removed from being tied up (usually to a tree) in the same game.

I have notice in discussions of humiliation play that generally the combinations of: dirty, filthy, naughty, nasty, etc. with slut seem to play to the enjoyment of the scene. I have noticed in discussions that generally: stupid, ugly, fat do not. This reasonably indicates that capability and volition are important aspects in making humiliation play fun. If you want to get philosophical about it, this is more defined as top/bottom than dom/sub, since the bottom ultimately retains the right to persistently define their own identity and make it THEIR toy.

There is also an interesting cultural aspect to this. Words, to have power, need connotation as well as denotation. Absent the cultural milieu, that power nearly vanishes.

In chatting with a woman from Germany, I was advised that she preferred the word "Schlampe", which seems to parallel "Slut" on English. It basically derives from the concept of "slattern" meaning slovenly. How it specifically shifted meaning I do not know. Usage has shaped the meanings and derivations in both languages.

German is a gendered language and you would think that the proper term for a "male slut" would be Schlamper, using the "r" on the end for male. Actually, that just retains the original meaning and would translate as "slob". Apparently the German term for a male slut is "Hurenbock", meaning metaphorically "man-whore" and literally "whore he-goat". ...snerk....

I'm not getting to any particular point here, but I have found this interesting. I am curious how this plays out in other languages and cultures. Oh, and if you speak German and are a happy horny "dreckige Schlampe", please say "Hi!"

An Introduction

I found this community by following a thread on mock_the_stupid from whence the "You are likely to be eaten by a grue" post [below] came.

I'm Shannon, or DiscipulaDC to my online friends, a female history-geek from the DC metro area. That's me in the icon.

Bi: Very. That was my answer when asked point-blank at a party. When retelling this anecdote to friends, I had to pause for bales of hysterical laughter. Those that know me well know that I could never be mistaken for anything else after being met in a comfortable social situation.

Poly: I'm becoming increasingly comfortable using this label. I'm in an exclusive romantic relationship, but there are some intimate friends in the mix.

Kinky: I'm a switch, and have been paid (in alcohol) by a third-rate fetish club to demonstrate this in a semi-public setting.

Pagan: I'm non-denominational, agnostic, neo-pagan humanist or something. Paganism is the only "religion" that I've identified with, even though my beliefs, or lack thereof, may currently be better described as atheist or secular-humanist. Basically, I've left off practicing rituals or believing in deities as entities, but still appreciate them as personifications of concepts in which I believe. I also run a little LJ community devoted to Pagan activism/freedom of religion, pagans_in_touch.

Gamer: I grew up on computer games that one had to go into DOS to start and White Wolf (those of you that frequented the forums during 3rd edition may remember me as Fallen Angle: The Geometric Terror). I went through a phase where I had a gameshark and a spring so that I could play Japanese RPGs when they first came out. Now I have a lot of board and card games that I don't have enough time to play. I've dabbled in several online and table-top RPGs and, years ago, was in a prolonged Sci-Fi LARP that I can only call "Star Trek as Written by Douglas Adams." I'm currently in a D&D game and run a Harry Potter RPG that I've homebrewed largely from the White Wolf and Witchcraft systems.

Geek: I'm primarily a history (my MA is in medieval history and I do a bit of Victorian re-enactment) and literary geek (I love 19th century pop fiction and read a lot of quintessentially geeky stuff like Gaiman, Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Lovecraft, JK Rowling, Tolkien etc...) I've even got a tattoo of Smaug as depicted on the cover of the 1st edition of The Hobbit. My geeky miscellany also includes being a fan of Joss Whedon, Monty Python, Egyptology, studying the history of medicine, being very pro-Oxford-comma, and, I'm sure, lots of other things that I can't think of at the moment.

Due to a number of unforeseen circumstances my family cannot afford to go to Dragon*Con this year, but we have already bought our tickets. The wife suggested putting them up on craigslist, but I wanted to give everyone here first shot at them instead. We have 3 tickets and got them early enough to have gotten them at the $50 rate. Tixs are currently $75 and will be going up to $90 on the 15th. We don't want to make any money on them; we just want to get back what we paid for them. There is a $20 transfer fee per ticket which will bring your cost up to $70, but that is still cheaper than the current cost.

If you want the tixs, my preferred way to do this would be through paypal for the $50 per ticket. I'll then fill out the transfer form(s) with our info and mail you the form(s) and the ticket(s). You can then either do the transfer prior to the con or at the con when you get there. Dragon*Con would prefer you do it in advance though. You can see their transfer policy at http://www.dragoncon.org/members.php#Refund.

You can either comment here or e-mail me at thor(at)wargod(dot)net if you have any questions or are interested in the tickets.

Friður,
Thor
