I got it into my head to make an intarsia chart for the Blue Sun logo, because I hadn't seen one anywhere. And I thought I'd share. :)

| Call for Knitters |
[Jan. 4th, 2009|01:41 pm] |
The Austin Browncoats need some knitting help. Many of you heard about our knit-a-thon at Dragon*Con 2008. Claudia knit 12 hats during the course of booth hours, which is an impressive feat. The hats are so popular that we have pre-orders coming in weekly. We're looking for individuals that are interested in helping us knit hats for charity. For more information about the charities we support, visit: Austin Browncoats Charity.
We will provide you with a starter kit, that will include the pattern or pattern and yarn (according to if you want to donate your knitting time or your knitting time AND yarn). We will provide receipts to all knitters to document time, as well as monetary donations.
We are in need of knit wool and acrylic hats, but are not in need of crocheted Jayne hats currently. We are working on being able to provide acrylic yarn, but as of right now, we can only provide wool yarn.
If you can't knit, but would like to help us make Jayne hats for charity, think of this:
$15 makes 3 Jayne hats.
By donating $15 to the Austin Browncoats, you are helping us produce three Jayne hats. That $15 turns into over $100 that goes straight to Kids Need To Read, Equality Now and our other supported charities.
If you are interested in any of these positions, or would like more information about volunteering with the Austin Browncoats, write to: volunteer@austinbrowncoats.com. |

| first post |
[Jan. 3rd, 2009|05:46 pm] |
Also my first hat, modeled by my lovely brother who refused to give it back when he was done. I've made another for a friend since then, but I haven't had a chance to give it to him yet.

| A man walks down the street in a fencing mask like that... |
[Jan. 2nd, 2009|09:02 pm] |
people know he's not afraid of anything.
And you know that pom-pom is just gonna be a target.
In case anybody is curious as to the technical details...
88 stitches per round on size 10.5 needles (@ 4 stitches per inch).
Both the yellow and the orange are 3.5 inches (I usually do the orange in 2.5, but I needed to account for the extra padding on top of the mask)
Lamb's Pride Bulky in Orange You Glad, Lemon Drop and Cranberry Swirl. |

| Some lucky Comic-Con attendee next year... |
[Dec. 24th, 2008|11:21 pm] |
| [ | mood |
| | excited | ] | will get a VintageJayneHat.

This all came from an estate sale. It all seems to be worsted-weight wool. It is my Giftmas pressie from kyburg

Vintage stuff, man! It originally came from the Broadway Department store, which is LONG out of business. I bet it's gotta be like 30 years old!
Yes, the OMFG Cheetos Orange will be used for the next round of BigDamnJayneHatKnitting for the California Browncoats at Comic-Con.
How freakin' cool is THAT? |

| river tam vest |
[Dec. 24th, 2008|05:31 pm] |
Yarrrr happy christmas everyone.
I decided on monday that since I have nothing better to do and I'm off school I should crochet a River Tam vest. My friends and I have been having Firefly parties and watching the whole series slowly all semester, so today I crocheted during Objects in Space and the first bit of Serenity. Voila!
that purple shirt, by the way, says "Don't Panic" on the front and has the TARDIS on the back. I'm mixing so many fandoms with this outfit.

| Some people juggle geese - Firefly Inspired FO |
[Dec. 19th, 2008|04:31 pm] |
x-posted from knitting ....cause it had to be here too
So for those in the know, juggling geese is a pretty interesting passtime. I made a set of three for my friend as her christmas gift. Shiny!

I made these using some leftover Bernat satin sport solid (camel colorway) and Patons black wool. My yarn was thinner so I went down to a size US3 needle from the recommended US5. Very easy to make and took all of two evenings. I had some old pillows that I pilferred stuffing from as well. Oh how I love cheap gift making. And really it is the gift of time that counts...right? Below is the image used on the outside of the tubular container (i.e. plastic tube the powdered drink mixes come in).

| Ma Cobb's Bamboozled |
[Dec. 14th, 2008|01:26 pm] |
What do you do with all the left over yarn from the plethora of Jayne hats you've made? Well you make something else with it! Here's my attempt at the Bamboozled pattern. I added pompoms to the end 'cause it seemed like what Ma Cobb would have done :)
