My girlfriend and I find ourselves suddenly in need of a new home, as our landlord is moving back into our house. He gave us 30 days notice almost 2 weeks ago and our own search for housing has been going a bit rough, so we are sending out an idea of what we are looking for, hoping for practical suggestions, available rooms and good wishes (and maybe even help hauling things). We need something available beginning of March.

We are open to many options that include the ability for each of us to have some privacy when we need it (no one-room studios) and where we can fit in the essentials of our daily lives (kitchen, tub, place to sleep, and store books, videos, CDs, cat toys, music gear, ect). We're trying for around $800-$1000/month (total), and are open to:

• an apartment, cottage, or small house (1 or 2 bedrooms, ) for just us and our cats
  
• two rooms (two bedrooms, or bedroom +office/studio/loft) in a shared house or apartment with roommates
  
• another person interested in looking with us so we can consider sharing a 3 or 4 bedroom house or apartment

We have been looking in the South Bay and Santa Cruz areas, and are now considering the East Bay and possibly a bit south or east of Santa Cruz as well (we have regular activities in Santa Cruz, San Jose and Oakland, so within a 1 to 2 hour driving range of each of those places would be good). We do have some chemical sensitivities, so we need a no-smoking household, and low to no incense (sage & naturally scented candles are usually okay).

A peaceful setting in nature would be wonderful, but so is reasonable access to major roads -- 20 minutes off the beaten path in the redwoods, and the middle of San Jose, are both possibilities we would happily consider.

We are in our early to mid 30's. We don't smoke, drink, or do any drugs (our substances of choice include music, chocolate, and Buffy videos). We are relatively quiet (one is a musician and one watches tv, but we tend to keep volume levels lower than one would expect). We are both financially responsible (pay our bills on time, try to stay within budget, etc.), but have very limited incomes at the moment and need to know where we'd be based before we can change that.

We are a low drama couple, and if in a shared household situation would prefer low drama roommates. We are familiar with and enjoy community living, but have been burned by a crazy psychodrama house years ago. One omnivore and one vegetarian (but the omnivore does all the cooking, and has grown to enjoy the challenge of making meals diverse households can enjoy). Roommates might also need to know: we're Pagan, polyamorous, SciFi fans, gamer geeks; one Gaelic speaking, SCA lesbian harper/singer/songwriter, and one purple obsessed bisexual, and we have 2 cats.
