At kaiser (pediatrics department) yesterday I was reading one of the pamphlets they have in the exam room - "Growing Up for Girls" or something like that. All of the requisite period and body parts info. They also had a FAQ and one of the questions asked about homosexuality. The answer was great and included the fact that a bisexual is someone who is attracted to members of both sexes. I was happy with the bi-inclusiveness. insomnia: Prominent AIDS researcher, LGBT advocate endorses Obama.
 Jerry L. Cade, M.D., Co-founder and Co-medical director of Nevada AIDS Research, and a prominent local LGBT advocate, has publically announced his support for Barack Obama. He has written the following in his endorsement: "For many reasons, I believe that the best hope for the LGBT and HIV/AIDS communities is Senator Barack Obama. In fact, the best hope for this country and the planet is Senator Barack Obama. . . I am ultimately supporting Senator Obama because I think he will do the best job at ensuring we continue our quest for LGBT equality and ensuring that we take care of our brothers and sisters who have been affected by HIV/AIDS. . .
There are clear differences among the candidates on LGBT issue and on HIV/AIDS issues. Furthermore, there is good evidence as to which candidates will most aggressively fight for us and for change. . .
For example, both Senator Obama and Senator Edwards have called for a full repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act . . . Unfortunately, Senator Clinton would only partially repeal the act. Senator Clinton would "leave in place the section of DOMA that allows states to self-determine the question of marriage without being obligated to recognize the marriage laws of other states" (from The Advocate, January 8, 2008). . .
Senator Obama's (as well as Senator Edwards's) main presidential websites . . . prominently display special sections showing their support for the LGBT community . . . In fact, I found a LGBT secion on every candidate's main website except for Senator Clinton's. . . . I am told that Senator Clinton supports us, but I feel like she wants to do so quietly. I am also bothered by the fact htat Senator Clinton was the last of the eight candidates to declare her support for civil unions. . .
With respect to HIV/AIDS issues, all three candidates have called ofr increased funding for treatment and provention; however, as late as July of 2007, Senator Clinton had not decided if she supported repealing the ban on using Federal funds for needle exchange programs:

My name is Sunny. I am a graduate student in the Human Sexuality Studies program at San Francisco State University. For my master’s thesis, I am conducting research on polyamory. The aim of my study is to explore how people in queer polyamorous triads experience love in their relationships. I am in search of individuals in self-identified queer, long-term (one year or longer), polyamorous triads to participate. Being involved in my study will entail participating in an individual 45-90 minute interview on your experiences of love in the triad, in a comfortable and private location convenient for both of us. SF Pride will be on Sunday, June 24th. We will be marching in contingent #154 and our lineup space is on Beale St., between Howard and Folsom and we are asking people to get there at 11am. Info at: http://www.sfpride.org/ In years past we have done a picnic but this year, instead, we are going to gather at a coffeehouse at 5pm and then leave at 5:30-6pm to go to dinner. This will give people enough time to either head home for a quick nap after the march or hang out at Civic Center and catch the bands and the sites. canis_fortuna: Bi Allies at Trans March in San Francisco
This year the San Francisco Trans March is calling out friends and allies in addition to transgendered people and I think it would be a very, very, very good idea to join them. Throughout my bisexual life and activities, transgendered people have always been there in support and I think it is only right to give some back. inkiand I will meet in Dolores Park at 6pm, an hour before the march is to start and we will have the bi flags with us. Look for them and us (I have green hair and inki's is dark blue, between us and our mates I think we're only yellow and orange hair away from a complete rainbow). More information is available at: http://www.transmarch.org/ Please consider joining us. The total length of the march is 1.5 miles which isn't bad. Marching is great exercise and you get to meet a lot of lovely people. We'll probably head for food or drinks afterward. |
