About embedding attewnpts and failures
Just for notice and memory.

I suspect now that each BeOS app trying to use Gecko should use same approach as we did in native FilePicker:

1)Create AppShell instance explicitly
2)Spinup it explicitly

Yes. I already tried with a custom nsAppShell long long time ago, and then it works. The embedding code was not finished though so it didn't do much.

finishing the code is well above my c/c++ ability.
the code is laying around archived on a pc.

can this be used for XULRunner?

XULRunner on BeOS fails miserably. It compiles and is capable of outputting its usage when run, but that's about it. It doesn't crash, it just does nothing, absolutely nothing.

so maybe this is a perfect candidate for someone to try this?

I think it does. Correct configurations which were set with that patch may be very important for proper functionality
