| Some general information about the Galaxy in our Subreality: |
[Aug. 20th, 2008|11:18 am] |
| [ | mood |
| | thoughtful | ] | We have a Universe with literally infinite dimensions in our Subreality. There are about 200 estimated starfaring societies, with ours, the Bizjarran Empire, equivalent in terms of sophistication and power-projection to Achaemenid Iran, and the rest of the galaxy to the Achaemenid-era Earth. To put it more bluntly, we outweigh the rest of the galaxy so bad that they cannot conquer us at our best, all united together.
Bizjarran civilization spans 40,000 light years wide and 2,000 light years deep, and is organized as a loosely-grouped monarchy based around the figure of the Anlan Lan and his female counterpart, the Azla Lazae. The society has a great deal of diversity, as would be expected from a starfaring empire of the sort that the Bizjarrans have, which retains sovereignty and suzerainty over a gigantic chunk of the galaxy. The empire is authoritarian, perhaps even totalitarian in theory, but in practice it retains a lot of individual leadership among various species. Each species has various factions and governments, and sometimes internecine wars. Really, the only unifying factor at all is the Bizjarran Emperor and Empress, as even the species that have produced the Imperial Houses are often badly divided and prone to disputes over issues. Imperial society currently is in its Golden Age, at the peak of its power, even after the collapse of one Dynasty and the rise of another.
Various satellite regimes exist, mostly small-scale federations of various species that are extremely prone to rebellion against Bizjarran interference, which usually prompts a quick smackdown every so often. Further out in space, a pair of unified and yet divided regimes exist that remind me first of the Aztecs in terms of power, and the second in terms of pre-Shi Huang China. These two have just as much tension between Starfarers and Planet-bounds as every other Galactopolitical regime does. The various races are often attempting to leave the former, especially, which prompts brutal retaliation which lacks the effectiveness of Bizjarran retaliation, and so the leaders of the Zhurvan League have to launch another attack. The Khroelvar Union, which is on some level resembling Warring-States era China, is very different, the planets are often only loosely affiliated, and seldom are actually unified, chiefly owing obedience to the Leader of the Union, a virtually powerless figure. These two have been battering each other in warfare for at least 22 years.
There are other galactic federations that have retained a general aura of isolation, against the wishes of some of their populations, but as they usually retain an iron wall, little can be said of them. This is the Milky Way in our Subreality, we know little of Andromeda or Triangulum, owing to their sheer distance.
As for lil' ol' Earth in this reality, it's called Tam'ir, and is in a region of the galaxy the starfarers felt was mostly uninhabitable, along with everything out well beyond the next 400 light years. The discovery of two societies, one about the level of the 19th Century, (Earth) and the other at the level of the Paleolithic (Proxima Centauri) was a shock. The beings on Proxima yielded fairly quickly and assimilated rather fast into the general Galactic society, having lost most of whatever unique ideas that they had. Earth, with its 4 brawling Hominins, has so far precariously retained a lot of its traditions, having rebelled repeatedly against the empire in the usual planet-bound fashion of wanting to protect its traditions against far more numerous and powerful starfarers.
Relations between planet-bounds and starfarers are usually punctuated with a time of peace, when everything is sedate and both co-exist, followed by some starfarer doing something really stupid, and then a general uprising occurs. The most recent such uprising was 800 light years away from the Grszhari, a planet-bound race that as a whole tends to three main cultural divisions, and the three have become much closer after the Bizjarrans forcibly conquered their planet about 1,000 years ago. An insult to one is an insult to all... and that's the typical pattern of relations between starfaring powers and planet-bound colonized species. |

| | thoughtful | ] | In HalialKen, the worlds of males and the worlds of females are separate for every species. The females are in charge of city/urban finances, and have a highly rational, cold, and yet sexualized culture. I, Keraganin, have visited the female sections of villages on normal days, and the females are in a very restrained culture that discourages expression of emotion save in the home. Females have a culture that encourages reason and logic as the solution to problems, the exact opposite of males in HalialKen. In the Halial Dynasty Empire, the male areas, where I spend the vast majority of my non-fronting time, are an almost anarchic and lusty-for-power region, where ritualized violence and aggression settle disputes. Despite this, the males get along with the unifying forces of the Belakik relationship, and the military, coupled with the biennial Kors'blax, an Olympics-type tournament that will be hosted late this year, this is what enables the males to unify under the rule of the Anlan Lan, as we call the Grand Emperor. Male culture in our world encourages anger and mock-aggression. However, it has a high tolerance of what we call Xganitiri, or gay males. What sparked this was an observation by Alain Christantos, a good friend of mine, and a physicist on Earthworld males, that "Earthworld males live in a world that tries to combine emotionlessness with anger, control with raw aggression, independence with dependence, status over equality, and repression over expression." However, HalialKer males live in a world that anger is allowed to be expressed in full, that control is not necessary (love, and vulnerability are allowed to be expressed to their Belakiks, independence is not an absolute necessity, status remains the same, but expression of males's powerful emotions is encouraged. What about your own worlds, how do they feel about male expression of emotions, and the things I lined out? Keragnin^Crew. |

It isn't exactly pneumatique, since they mentioned setting permissions so that only certain individuals could share certain bits of information, but it attracted my interest because we do have pneumatique on Laura.
We still use pneumatic post in some places on our homeworld, mostly in older cities in Dascia. Mostly it is used for in-city mail. It exists in Athen, Ekaterinzeh and especially Tamarna.
The largest pneumatique system in the world ran between Athen and Halath, and another between Aurea City and Tamarna (see http://www.box.net/public/328327ihye). There is talk of reviving these systems as well as the one that once existed between Halath and Owasi (Owasi is not shown on that map; it is the capital of the Independent Western Islands).
Many companies use pneumatique to send messages and small objects within or between buildings.
More here for the curious, and here, a detailed history of the pneumatic post on Earth. More details and images here.
Most modern Earth people will be familiar with pneumatique in the context of drive-up windows at banks. The romance of the pneumatique is well known to devotees of Anais Nin and other French authors of the 1920s and 1930s. |

| A closer look at my dark playground |
[Nov. 11th, 2005|10:19 am] |
The dark playground is one of the many universes that make up Mindeodean. It lays "at the bottom," closest of all Mindeodean worlds to my mind and soul. In fact, it may even be a representation of my soul. I'm not sure. Anyway, it's kind of a gothic-looking place, but I like it. And I've found out what it's for... it's for explorations of my soul. I explore my soul by writing stories where I am a main character, and I am "going within," into my soul.
So under the cut (for length) is an excerpt from the most recent of these stories, called Labyrinth. I would link to the whole thing, but it is not yet finished.
( The air is dry, as though it's been blasted not only of all water, but of all life. Dead dry leaves fly around as though in a breeze, but the scalded air is deathly still. These movements seem to be coming from... )

Being a little stressed latgely we have spent a few sleepless nights lookign through pictures online and we found a few that looked like, or parts looked like areas of Idia. So the question we have, or the assistance we are askign for, is this. We want to write more about Idia for our website, to discuss what life is like there, what the country looks like, feels like. But from a readers point of view what things would interest you to read about, is there anythings that would seem, umm, worth reading. we are slightly stuck when it comes to starting to write, so help would be appreicated. Thank you. Jayla

| Djao-Kain's Onyx Castle |
[Oct. 29th, 2005|01:25 pm] |
Sometimes we find out about parts of Mindeodean in our writing. Some of our novels have our Goddess Shao'Kehn (AKA Djao-Kain) as a character, and the main character Nokwahl having dreams of Her realm. In one of these, I discovered Djao-Kain's Onyx Castle, which is a castle made of onyx (obviously) which contains a hallway with all kinds of doors. I think I might start using this in conjunction with Mindeodean to do spiritual explorations during my free time.

| Evanescence |
[Oct. 29th, 2005|01:20 pm] |
Hi, I'm Lo, one of the people in the fayanora system. My favorite band is Evanescence, because it is just so beautiful and Gothic in style. Some of the lyrics speak to all of us, as well... two songs seem to be about inner worlds, and one song seems to imply that Amy Lee (their lead singer) may be a multiple as well.
Yesterday at work we had our "Halloween" costume contest thing, so we came as a Goth girl, thanks to my influence. It was fun, but heels are hard to work in. Especially when you're wearing arm warmers made by cutting the fingers off a pair of costume gloves.
Since Evanescence is the only Goth rock band I knows of, can anyone suggest other Goth rock bands?
Here are those Evanescence lyrics:
"Imaginary" (The "Fallen" version has the intro verse moved to the end. )
oh.. paper flowers oh.. paper flowers
I linger in the doorway Of alarm clock screaming monsters calling my name Let me stay Where the wind will whisper to me Where the raindrops as they're falling tell a story
In my field of paper flowers And candy clouds of lullaby I lie inside myself for hours And watch my purple sky fly over me
Don't say I'm out of touch With this rampant chaos - your reality I know well what lies beyond my sleeping refuge The nightmare I built my own world to escape
In my field of paper flowers And candy clouds of lullaby I lie inside myself for hours And watch my purple sky fly over me
Swallowed up in the sound of my screaming Cannot cease for the fear of silent nights Oh how I long for the deep sleep dreaming The Goddess of imaginary light
In my field of paper flowers And candy clouds of lullaby I lie inside myself for hours And watch my purple sky fly over me
oh.. paper flowers oh.. paper flowers
On Fallen - track 7 - released 2003. Versions of this track also appear on the Evanescence EP, Origin and 2000 Demos. Lyrics © Amy Lee / Ben Moody.
"Hello" (An identical but remixed version of this track appears on 2002 Demos. )
Playground school bell rings - again Rain clouds come to play again Has no one told you she's not breathing? Hello, I am your mind giving you someone to talk to Hello
If I smile and don't - believe Soon I know I'll wake from this dream Don't try to fix me I'm not broken Hello, I'm the lie living for you so you can hide Don't cry
Suddenly I know I'm not sleeping Hello, I'm still here All that's left of yesterday

| The Dark Playground and Mindeodean |
[Oct. 24th, 2005|05:37 pm] |
When I was a kid, my subjective world overlapped the real one quite a lot, and my imagination was very active. So active that I never really grew out of it. However, The War against my "evil" side (combined with previous explorations into the challenging "real world") pushed me into a state where I exiled myself to only one room of my inner world... the Dark Playground. It's a desolate place, with few denizens (most of which live in the shadows) and a blood red sky with some black in it. Some ghosts haunt it, and the dried dead leaves blow around in the wind, whispering as they do. The gate is rusted shut, but I have the power to open it now. And everything is covered with a layer of age and disuse, as though they were tangible things. The ground isn't much better, being made of broken-up concrete.
( Under the cut because it is very long )
So to summerize, I discovered today that I am NOT an "internal dichotomy split." I was NOT one mind until 1998. I am a Natural Multiple, with a whole universe in my mind. Oh, and I am also a Median, which in case you don't know what that means, is defined here: http://astraeasweb.net/plural/glossary.html
Anyone else here have a subjective world of their own? Anyone else a Median?

Hi, this is my intro post. I'm Fayanora. Well, there are several of us in here. Only 6 have really distinct personalities, so far as I know of. But we are like a family of telepaths, sharing all, so I dunno... there may be more that are just blending into one another.
Anyway, my internal world I call my dark playground because that's how I related to it in the past. I don't really know what to say about it right now. Maybe more later.

| | walker strikes out, &^# StL 6 Chi 0 end of the 8th sigh | ] | 1. How long have there been people on this world? Did they evolve, or did they migrate from somewhere/when else?
There is a legend that the Laurad came from another world which they may have shared with a sister race, now living on a separate but very similar planet.
2. How many people are there in this country? How does this compare with world population? What is considered a small town/large town/city in terms of number of people?
Laurad are not very fertile. In addition, homosexuality is very common, as is brother-sister incest, which is never productive, and cousin incest, which is seldom productive. I doubt there are more than a couple of billion people on the whole planet. The smallest town on the mainland is Kophein in Koveh -- population sixteen. It has two shrines, a trading post and a very small inn. It gets tourist and trader traffic. If smaller villages or settlements exist in the eastern islands, we don't know about them as much of that part of the world is controlled by the reclusive Laru.
3. Where does magic power come from? Magic on Laura is a matter of folk belief; a little twigs and dirt and a few words. It isn't like in fantasy novels. Herbal lore is considered medicine and not magic. Belief in luck is important, especially in Dascia. People adopt personal charms for good luck, and there are things it is "good luck" and "bad luck" to do. They're very invested in random chance and divination. Tarot, angel cards (they're not called that), fortune cookies, tea leaf reading, etc. The word for luck is taioi. This word is also used to mean fate, which is often misunderstood by outworlders. It can also be karma (not transmigrational, but "it's bad karma to give the finger to a police officer"), and sometimes ambience or just the general "feel" of a person, place, or thing.
Religion and spirituality are very personal things. Belief in an unseen world and an afterlife and reincarnation are taken as given, but people believe all different things about what it's like. For instance, will you reincarnate into the same family, or just into the same guild or profession? Ghosts are believed to be the spirits of people who just love to come back and see what's going on. They might give you good advice or warn you if something isn't right. Never be afraid of them. There is one "religion" but many, many different ways of practicing it.

Global internet was a reality on Laura decades ago and is called the central net. We've described radio and television on in a previous post some months back.
Antigrav has been around for about forty years. It works on some kind of magnetic principle and I'm not sure of the details, not being a scientist. What I do know is that that's how our aircars and spaceships operate, as well as leisure things like floaters, and in hospitals for patient transport and so forth. The newscenters use cameras with tiny antigravs, but these are available to the general public as well. When an antigrav is operating it generates a pleasing array of rainbow colours. Large antigravs can cause plasmoid formations so that the big freighters might look as if they're accompanied by a flock of smaller "flying saucer"-like craft. (This is why the freighter lines are all named after water birds.)
