Willing to Beta [Mar. 11th, 2009|07:01 pm]

mactwck
Fan name and e-mail: [info]mactwck mactwck@libertyavenue.net

Are you willing to read WIPs, or will you only beta finished stories? Either is ok

What Categories/Warning of stories will you NOT read?
Violence, squick, BDSM, main character death, heavy angst, non-con or semi-con/rape, mpreg

Are you looking to help someone only with grammar/spelling/punctuation, or are you willing to go into characterization, or do you just want to help polish a finished product? Whatever the author needs.

How tough can you be? Are you willing and able to give blunt constructive criticism, or are you more of a gentle guide? I can do either but hopefully I am more gentle.

Will you able to get this back quickly to your author, or do you want to delve into your author's story? That is up once again to the author.

Are you a fanfic writer yourself? If so, where is your fiction posted? I have written 2 teeny, tiny little stories. I would tell you where they are posted but then I would have to KEEL you....

Looking for a beta [Feb. 15th, 2009|04:07 am]

shopinchickcas
Are you planning to post as a WIP, or is this the start of an
intended series?

This is currently a WIP but will not be posted until it is completed

Length, either in file size or how many pages
8 chapters so far... about 3,000-4000 words per chapter

Categories
AU

Pairings and principal characters beyond B/J, if any: BJ mostly... other pairings mentioned but not focused on

General summary/outline of story: Brian is a fireman who saves Justin and Daphne when their apartment building catches fire. All in Justin's POV, This story is written in 2 different time periods, but all in present tense. The first is 2009 and the other is five years prior in 2004 where Justin is remembering his past with Brian.

Warnings:(Choose all relevant, including Short Form Fiction, Angst, Romance, Violence,
Definitely some angst, definately romance (a lot of Justin swooning over Brian), and some violence, although not in detail.

Toughness level:
Looking for Guidance and someone to push me to finish the story or are you hoping to find a beta who will really delve into your story?

I am a beta myself, so I am looking for someone who can delve into a story and really rip it apart helpfully.  I need someone who can catch my mistakes such as grammar, spelling, and punctuation.  And I need someone who can catch any inconsistancies in a story and who can help me out once in awhile with characterization, specifically with Brian and Hunter.  Usually I'm ok with Brian, but sometimes I just have a question or two about how he will react in a situation, but Hunter is a total smart ass and since that is not my normal personality i have a hard time with writing his character.

If you are not a new writer, do you have other fiction posted somewhere? If so, where?
I have stories posted on LJ under [info]shopinchickcas  BUT.. and i mean the big BUT... they are all written before I got my experience as a writer and a beta, and I have to admit, even to myself, that the first few chapters of my main story (As Long As You're Here) SUCK the big one.  I am currently rewriting and working with my BBM beta to fix them, so do NOT judge my writing on that!  None of my stories posted are QAF tho... they are all BBM and Shelter and none of them are finished yet.  This will be my first QAF fic posted, although not my first QAF written.

Are you willing to read WIPs, or will you only beta finished stories?

Yes. WIP is fine! To be honest I was like... WIP... the hecks W...I... OH! *smacks forehead* Work In Progress. -__-

What Categories/Warning of stories will you NOT read?
I have no qualms with any categories or warnings! So I'll work on anything. :]

Are you looking to help someone only with grammar/spelling/punctuation, or are you willing to go into characterization, or do you just want to help polish a finished product?
It depends on what the author wants. If I have no say in anything but grammar than that's what I'll stick to. But if the author would like some help in characterization or even plot ideas I'd be more than willing to help.

How tough can you be? Are you willing and able to give blunt constructive criticism, or are you more of a gentle guide?
I'm an honest person. But not brutally so! I don't judge harshly (unless you'd like a nazi beta). But I believe I have good taste in literature. So if your story sucks... And I mean... It's a complete eye-sore... Then I'll give you advice on what you should add or delete from the plot to make it better. Whether you take my advice into consideration is up to you. And I won't push too hard on plot structure and what-not. My job is to make it easier for you to write, without the hassle of trying to figure out grammar structure and blah di blah. So I won't critize your fantasy world too harshly! I hope that spiel made sense.

Will you able to get this back quickly to your author, or do you want to delve into your author's story?
We all get busy at some points. People do have lives outside of their computer screens. I'm actually grounded for life (until I go off to college) so... I'd get back to them soon. -____-'  My technique is I read a chapter, go back and fix everything paragraph by paragraph, read it twice or thrice more, and then send it back to the author. Then after I send it I know I'll be all paranoid and read it again to see if I missed anything. xD

Are you a fanfic writer yourself? If so, where is your fiction posted?
Why, yes! Yes, I am! I've written a total of... 1 fanfic. It's called Confessions of a Needy Boyfriend. I have it posted on the bjfic site and the lj community. Also, I have it on fanfiction.net. My usernames for fanfiction.net and bjfic.net are above just in case you'd rather contact me anywhere else!

Beta Here! [Dec. 31st, 2008|12:06 am]
laurel29
[mood | calm]

I would love to be a beta for anyone who needs it, but I'm kind of new to this world and I want to do as much as I can!

Are you willing to read WIPs, or will you only beta finished stories?

I will read all stories you want me to.

What Categories/Warning of stories will you NOT read?
(Choose all relevant categories from Short Form Fiction, Parody, Angst, PWP, Romance, Crossover, Violence, Humor, AU/AR; for warnings you must include everything you can think of, eg. squick, BDSM, main character death, heavy angst, non-con or semi-con/rape, mpreg, etc.)

No problem with reading any warning.

Are you looking to help someone only with grammar/spelling/punctuation, or are you willing to go into characterization, or do you just want to help polish a finished product?

My strongest points are spelling/grammar but I'm willing to do characterization, and rewatching episodes for details and such.

How tough can you be? Are you willing and able to give blunt constructive criticism, or are you more of a gentle guide?

I would prefer to softly guide, but can give pushes if needed.

Will you able to get this back quickly to your author, or do you want to delve into your author's story?

If it's just spelling and grammar, I get get back fairly quickly, but for more detailed stuff, I would take a couple more days.

Are you a fanfic writer yourself? If so, where is your fiction posted?

I haven't written any fanfic, mostly because I'd rather get caught up in other peoples' stories.

If interested, my email is iliketolaugh2929@yahoo.com and we can work through there. =)

wanting to beta [Sep. 26th, 2008|07:55 pm]
rhyadawn

Are you willing to read WIPs, or will you only beta finished stories?

I'm willing to read all stories, finished or not.

I'm comfortable with most all warnings.

Are you looking to help someone only with grammar/spelling/punctuation, or are you willing to go into characterization, or do you just want to help polish a finished product?

characterization and grammer etc. I don't mind doing homework for it either, going back and watching episodes to get it just right.

How tough can you be? Are you willing and able to give blunt constructive criticism, or are you more of a gentle guide?

I would rather be a gentle guide, but I can be tough if I need to be.

Will you able to get this back quickly to your author, or do you want to delve into your author's story?

I like to take my time with a story, usually a few days if it has length and if I am working on characterization. If it is simply spelling and grammer then it doesn't take long.

Are you a fanfic writer yourself? If so, where is your fiction posted?

I have written fanfic, but haven't posted any. Need to wade through the files and get it typed up.

if interested please email cutigemini@hotmail.com   subject beta (or it might get lost in junkmail :(   )

Beta wanting work [Aug. 7th, 2008|09:00 pm]

Fan name and e-mail: [info]pinkfriction marinaruss@hotmail.com

Are you willing to read WIPs, or will you only beta finished stories? Anything goes.

I'll have a go at pretty much everything, but I'm on the vanilla side so BDSM or anything non-con isn't really my forte. AU isn't my favourite type of fic but I will try it. Death fic is fine. Only one no-no: MPREG unless it's meant to be crack.

Are you looking to help someone only with grammar/spelling/punctuation, or are you willing to go into characterization, or do you just want to help polish a finished product?
Grammar/spelling is my strongest area, characterization less but I'm always willing to go back and watch episodes to provide input!

How tough can you be? Are you willing and able to give blunt constructive criticism, or are you more of a gentle guide?
I'm pretty gentle, but can be tough if that's what is needed.

Will you able to get this back quickly to your author, or do you want to delve into your author's story?
Can't promise to get stuff back super-quick, but I won't take weeks. I'll always let you know how I'm getting on.

Are you a fanfic writer yourself? If so, where is your fiction posted?
Yes, but I don't write a lot of B/J (I'm more a Melanie/Lindsay shipper). My work is all here: [info]pinkcreative

[music |High School Confidential]

Are you willing to read WIPs, or will you only beta finished stories?

I'm willing to read all stories however I do prefer finished ones as I believe that they are easier to spot loopholes in.

You write it I'll read it. I don't mind any subjects/categories or warnings.

Are you looking to help someone only with grammar/spelling/punctuation, or are you willing to go into characterization, or do you just want to help polish a finished product?

I'll gladly help in all of the above however my spelling may be a little off since I'm from Australia not America and we spell some words differently.

How tough can you be? Are you willing and able to give blunt constructive criticism, or are you more of a gentle guide?

I'm blunt and I give criticism where I think it is needed however I wont only focus on negative aspects. I will also tell you what I like and push to help get the story finished.

Will you able to get this back quickly to your author, or do you want to delve into your author's story?

Either is fine it really depends on what the author wants. If they want it back fast so as not to delay updates then I can get it back to them within a few days but if they don't mind how long it takes and want me to go further in depth I'm not adverse to doing so.

Are you a fanfic writer yourself? If so, where is your fiction posted?

I am a fanfic writer myself however most of what I write is in the Harry Potter fandom and I have a few stories for different anime that I like. I post my fanfics on Fanfiction.net and The Dark Mark.

[mood | excited]

I would love to beta for one or more authors. I'm not sure how to do this, but I read the first page of entries and borrowed a set of questions to help writers get to know me.

Are you willing to read WIPs, or will you only beta finished stories?

I would gladly beta both WIPs and complete stories, although I would probably prefer to do WIPs, and, in general, I like long stories best.

I avoid reading stories in which Brian and/or Justin die and those with a great deal of Brian/Ethan or with Brian/Michael as a romantic pairing (even briefly). I will read (but with great difficulty) stories involving brutal rape. I am not sure that I could beta a story involving brutal rape because I'd have to read (too closely) scenes that make me feel faint. Rape themes are fine. It's just the violence (that particular type of violence) I have difficulty stomaching. To my knowledge, I have no other trouble areas. I read stories from a wide range of genres and ratings (though I am less fond of PG stories. The stories I like best are as risqué as the show was or nearly so).

Are you looking to help someone only with grammar/spelling/punctuation, or are you willing to go into characterization, or do you just want to help polish a finished product?
I would gladly do both grammar/punctuation/spelling and characterization or one or the other.

How tough can you be? Are you willing and able to give blunt constructive criticism, or are you more of a gentle guide?
For good or for ill, I am a bit on the blunt side. I can't be so nice that I don't bring something up that I think is important, but I am as gentle as possible about the suggestions I make or questions I ask.

Will you able to get this back quickly to your author, or do you want to delve into your author's story?
I can do either, but I am used to urgent deadlines. In fact, I work better with deadlines (not necessarily urgent). If the author(s) gave me a time frame, that would be ideal ("I hope to have this back by...but I absolutely need it by..."). Chances are, I'd fall somewhere in the middle.

Are you a fanfic writer yourself? If so, where is your fiction posted?
I have not yet tried my hand at B/J (or QAF) fanfic, although I might soon (I am very tempted), but I used to write fanfics for different shows (a few years ago). Unfortunately, the Web sites on which my stories were posted no longer exist. I might be able to dig some of them up if it's important (though, since it's not QAF or even prime time, it may not interest QAF fanfic author(s)).

Searching for a Beta. [Mar. 25th, 2008|10:37 pm]

bndjsfaghag15
*I'M A NEWBIE*

Penname and e-mail:
lj: BndJsFagHag15, Meg, whitex0xrabbit@aim.com

Are you planning to post as a WIP, or is this the start of an
intended series?

I'm working on two projects, they're both WIPs. I have completed fourteen chapters out of fifteen+prologue&epilogue for one story (Karmic Redemption), and three *working on four right now* chapters out of five+epilogue story (No Goodbye).

Length, either in file size or how many pages
(if incomplete, please specify how long so far, and intended length)

As of right now, Karmic Redemption is about 32,000 words, and No Goodbye as of now is about 7,100.
I'd estimate, as Karmic Redemption has one chapter and an epilogue to go, I doubt it would be more than 40,000 words altogether. Longest thing I've ever written.
No Goodbye, I'd say, won't breach 15,000.

Categories:
(Choose all relevant, including Short Form Fiction, Parody, Angst, PWP, Romance, Crossover, Violence, Humor, AU/AR)

Karmic Redemption: Angst, Romance, Humor, AU, Violence (re-telling of experience, nothing major)
No Goodbye: Angst, Romance, AU POST-513, all chapters are songfics.

Pairings and principal characters beyond B/J, if any:

The whole gang is there. Mel&Linds, Michaal&Ben, Emmett and Ted. Ethan and Chris Hobbs are minorly in Karmic Redemption.

General summary/outline of story:

Karmic Redemption: Brian got the job in New York in season one, then moves back six years later to open his own agency. As Brian and Justin aren't together when he does this, his agency is not called Kinnetic. Justin has become a sort of father in Gus' life while Brian is gone, and it leads to some major life changes.
No Goodbye: Justin didn't go to New York that night. How does everyone handle that?

Warnings:
(you must include everything you can think of, eg. squick, BDSM, main character death, heavy angst, non-con or semi-con/rape, mpreg, etc. Note that the archive does not accept stories that are ultimately Brian/Other or Justin/Other)

The violence mentioned in Karmic Redemption is the re-telling of an almost-rape story. Implied Justin/Ethan in Karmic Redemption, as in they dated in the past. There's some Anti-Mel&Linds sentiment in No Goodbye, and it seems Anti-Michael but it changes its mind.

Are you looking for someone to help with grammar/spelling/punctuation, or characterization, or just someone to help polish a finished product?

I'm looking for someone to help a bit with grammer/spelling/puncuation and someone to help polish what I have so far.

Toughness level:
(Do you need blunt constructive criticism, or are you new to writing and in need of gentler guidance?)

Well, there's no need to be mean. I want to hear your honest opinion. I trust you. ;D.

Are you in need of someone who can get this back quickly, or are you hoping to find a beta who will really delve into your story?

Delve, since it's a WIP, and I'll just post it and then go and fix it. Might as well, as I've already posted as I went. So yes, no rush.

If you are not a new writer, do you have other fiction posted somewhere? If so, where?

I'm not a new writer, but I've never had a beta before.

My page is: http://bndjsfaghag15.livejournal.com/

Thanks in advance! :D.

WIPs are fine :) I prefer to beta short stories or one chapter at a time.

No Mpreg or rape. No Michael!hate

Are you looking to help someone only with grammar/spelling/punctuation, or are you willing to go into characterization, or do you just want to help polish a finished product?
I love to help with characterization, continuity and keeping fic canon compliant. Spelling/grammar/punctuation, goes without saying. I love working with new authors.

How tough can you be? Are you willing and able to give blunt constructive criticism, or are you more of a gentle guide?
I'm honest. I'll be as tough as I need to be (but always with a sense of humor). I accept we all have variations on characterizations and won't try to take over your story, but I won't let anyone commit fandom suicide either.

Will you able to get this back quickly to your author, or do you want to delve into your author's story?
I can't do rush work. I need a few days for a fic or chapter.

ADMIN: posting for Zahar [Feb. 18th, 2008|03:21 am]

nightsister
I know I posted this in the wrong section, but I've never worked with lj and I don't see how I can post a new message. Sorry!

Hi,

I need a beta for my story 'The sultan's favourite', a WIP on bjfic. My former beta is busy and can't beta-read the next chapter.

Penname and e-mail: Zahar (Sarah_Vulcania@hotmail.com)

Are you planning to post as a WIP, or is this the start of an
intended series?

My story 'The sultan's favourite' is a WIP (I started writing in 2006) and has 10 chapters posted on bjfic. I need a beta for the 11th chapter (and maybe for the next chapters)

Length, either in file size or how many pages

The chapter is 4-5 pages long

Categories:
AU (Ottoman Empire), Romance, History, Slavery

Pairings and principal characters beyond B/J, if any: No other important pairings, most members of the Liberty Avenue gang and some original characters appear in the story.

General summary/outline of story:

1793 - 17-year old Justin Taylor is sent to France by his parents to finish his education in order to become a succesful merchant, but his ship is attacked by pirates. Justin is captured and sold as a slave to the Dey of Algiers. The Dey decides that Justin would be the perfect gift for the sultan of the Ottoman Empire, Brahim Ibn Ali.

Warnings:
Slavery, BDSM, References to abuse, References to rape, Unsafe Sex, Violence

Are you looking for someone to help with grammar/spelling/punctuation, or characterization, or just someone to help polish a finished product?

English is not my first language, so I need someone to correct my grammar and spelling mistakes. If possible, I would like a beta who knows more about formal and historical English.

e.g. I write: I will not instead of I won't

Toughness level:

If I make mistakes, I would like my beta to be brutally honest. I don't need a lot of feedback concerning the content of the story.

Are you in need of someone who can get this back quickly, or are you hoping to find a beta who will really delve into your story?

I'd like to post soon, since the chapter has been ready since september.

If you are not a new writer, do you have other fiction posted somewhere? If so, where?

Thank you for helping me out,

Penname and e-mail: Cara del sol (lj: laciudad) caradelsol99@hotmail.com

Are you planning to post as a WIP, or is this the start of an
intended series?

Hopefully the beta in question will be willing to work with me on a number of projects. However, currently I'm looking for someone to help out with ones I've already completed, as I now am the proud owner of a skyehawke account and I'd like to post my current completed works.

Length, either in file size or how many pages
(if incomplete, please specify how long so far, and intended length)

The fic I'm  thinking of beginning with is approximately 60 thousand words in length. Yeah, i know.

Categories:
(Choose all relevant, including Short Form Fiction, Parody, Angst, PWP, Romance, Crossover, Violence, Humor, AU/AR)

Angst, Romance, What if (AU)

Pairings and principal characters beyond B/J, if any:

A little bit of everybody. Lindsay and Mel, Michael, Ben, etc. But Primarily through Justin's perspective.

General summary/outline of story:

Justin's sure about one thing, learning to speak fluent Kinney-ese takes a lot of cross-referencing.

Warnings:
(you must include everything you can think of, eg. squick, BDSM, main character death, heavy angst, non-con or semi-con/rape, mpreg, etc. Note that the archive does not accept stories that are ultimately Brian/Other or Justin/Other)

Implied Brian/Michael. Other fics might have a little more graphic than just implied, so the beta would have to be okay with that. As tastefully done as possible, promise.

Are you looking for someone to help with grammar/spelling/punctuation, or characterization, or just someone to help polish a finished product?

Yes. And Yes. I want someone who'll be brutally honest with me. But! flexible with author style stuf. Still I want someone willing to let me know when things just don't work. Was that vague enough? ;)

Toughness level:
(Do you need blunt constructive criticism, or are you new to writing and in need of gentler guidance?)

Blunt! But um...if you could pad that with compliments too? Basically I want to know what I'm doing wrong, but also what I'm doing right so I can keep doing it. :)

Are you in need of someone who can get this back quickly, or are you hoping to find a beta who will really delve into your story?

Delve away! I'm not in any rush. With longer stuff I realize people need time. But with shorter, it'd be cool if it could be returned in 2 or so weeks? I really want this to be the best fic it can (all my work, really) so take your time.

If you are not a new writer, do you have other fiction posted somewhere? If so, where?

Are you planning to post as a WIP, or is this the start of an
intended series?    WIP, the first chapter is posted to my LJ page already.

Length, either in file size or how many pages
3 chapters, 11 pages and just under 5000 words completed.  At least 2 more chapters to go, but not completely sure how many pages.
I am treating each chapter as a different POV, so while some chapters can be 5 pages, another can only be 2.

CATEGORIES:  Angst, Slight Violence, post513

Pairings and principal characters beyond B/J, if any:   Ben

General summary/outline of story:  Summary:   After something happens to Justin, all he can think about is going home.    Outline:  Justin is assaulted in New York, and after he rushes back to the Pitts to the safety of Brian.  Story follows Justin getting home, Brian taking care of him with help from Ben.  Also focuses on Justin healing from his assault.

Warnings:
Angst, Rape, Violence, somewhat Anti-Michael, Aids/HIV

Are you looking for someone to help with grammar/spelling/punctuation, or characterization, or just someone to help polish a finished product?  Help polish the product and glancing over the spelling/punctuation.  Also needs someone to catch my slip in tenses.  (i.e.  going from the You person to He, She, It person)

Toughness level:
As tough as the Beta wants to be, just be nice about it.

Are you in need of someone who can get this back quickly, or are you hoping to find a beta who will really delve into your story?  Someone who can get it back quickly but making sure to catch most of the mistakes.

If you are not a new writer, do you have other fiction posted somewhere? If so, where? I am new to QAF fic, but I have one short High School Musical story posted at fanfiction.net.  It is unbetaed.

Are you planning to post as a WIP, or is this the start of an
intended series?WIP

Length, either in file size or how many pages
Incompete 8 pages so far

Categories: Drama, agnst,
Pairings and principal characters beyond B/J, if any: Main Character: Brian and Justin, But Everyone Else is in there.

General summary/outline of story:My story is about the bomb episode. I'm exploring the option that Brian was the sole person to get hurt. This my way of showing how everyone will act. Michael is not going to be hurt in this one at all. As my first fic for qaf I'm going to stay safe.

Warnings:Mreg, Heavy angst
(you must include everything you can think of, eg. squick, BDSM, main character death, heavy angst, non-con or semi-con/rape, mpreg, etc. Note that the archive does not accept stories that are ultimately Brian/Other or Justin/Other)

Are you looking for someone to help with grammar/spelling/punctuation, or characterization, or just someone to help polish a finished product?

Toughness level: onstructive criticism,guidance

Are you planning to post as a WIP, or is this the start of an
intended series?
WIP, may have a sequel.

Length, either in file size or how many pages: Incomplete, so far five chapters - 48,763 words altogether. All posted on Midnight-whispers.com under 'Grudge' and on my LJ.

Categories: Angst, drama.

Pairings and principal characters beyond B/J, if any: Chris Hobbs, OMC, OMC, OFC. Glimpses of other pairings (Ben/Mikey, Mel/Linds, etc).

General summary/outline of story: Chris Hobbs' life hasn't turned out how he thought it would. Instead of rolling in money and power as a pro-football player or a hot-shot lawyer, he's working at his father's company at the bottom of the ladder. He hates his life.....and he blames Justin. Takes place three years after 513 (except for the prologue which takes place during Hobbs' trial), however it is slightly AU - the Pink Posse didn't happen and Chris Hobbes doesn't work in construction

Warnings: Rape, violence, het, mentions of child abuse, minor character death, unsafe sex.

Are you looking for someone to help with grammar/spelling/punctuation, or characterization, or just someone to help polish a finished product? All of the above :)

Toughness level: I need blunt constructive criticism

Are you in need of someone who can get this back quickly, or are you hoping to find a beta who will really delve into your story? Maybe something in-between?

Need a Beta [Aug. 5th, 2007|09:27 pm]

[mood | tired]

I've been writing an ongoing story - Pain Management- since early January. I have been posting once a week and it is almost finished, but my beta stated that she will probably not be able to beta for me much longer as she has other commitments. She suggested I look for another beta for the remainder of the story. It would be really important for you to read the entire story up to this point to look at my writing style, etc. There are currently 23 chapters and it can be found on my LJ, BJFIC LJ and Midnight Whispers.I would say the story is probably about 140 pages so far.

I need someone who will look at grammar and wording- especially commas. I also need someone who knows how to HTML code.

please respond to this list.

thanks, sfscarlet

Are you willing to read WIPs, or will you only beta finished stories?
I'll do either one, whatever the author has so far, even if it's just notes.

I won't read MPreg, BDSM or main character death.

Are you looking to help someone only with grammar/spelling/punctuation, or are you willing to go into characterization, or do you just want to help polish a finished product?
I can do both things.

How tough can you be? Are you willing and able to give blunt constructive criticism, or are you more of a gentle guide?
Well, I can be a mixture of the two... I won't be terribly mean, but I would tell you what just doesn't work. But gently, yeah.

Will you able to get this back quickly to your author, or do you want to delve into your author's story?
I'm a very fast reader, so I'd be able to get things back to the author quickly.

Are you a fanfic writer yourself? If so, where is your fiction posted?
Yes, I'm a writer myself, my stories are posted on my lj (http://arlad.livejournal.com/) on bjfic (http://community.livejournal.com/bjfic/) and Midnight Whispers.
