keitherino11:00am: Outta-site
Dear Favorite Messiah,

The new website is outta-site! I love the Mary artwork.
Hearing the brand new song WHEN DID JESUS (Become a Republican)? is appropriate on this special election day. It makes me think of the Tom Waits song CHOCOLATE JESUS from his Mule Variations. I Look forward to catching a live show sometime soon.

Keep on preachin' the muse.

Your disciple,

Keitherino

Meanwhile back at the ranch:

Ive been recording again. At some point in the not so distant future you will be hearing such hits as: When Did Jesus Become A Republican, Cry Me a Jordan, Make Way For The Handicapped, Hugs and Kisses and so on.

Lots of good new songs, me thinks. For those of you that have not heard me in a while you will be surprised to hear a decidedly county/old time twist to my songwriting and band sound. I like to call the style; Twisted Roots. Paul Williams calls it "anti-country" and that works too. I hope some of you in cyber reading range pick me up on your radar and can make it out for the shows. I've always believed it takes two to make a party and an artist without a few warm blooded revellers is like a one hand clapping riddle. Good for yogi-cave koanic-meditation, not fun for a rave-up. I look forward to hanging out and meeting afterwards.

cindyleebee11:30pm: Happy Val Day!

A few days ago I heard on NPRadio that the well known jazz and blues organist, Jimmy Smith passed away. He was pretty old maybe 80. Well Ive got a good JS story:

Back in 1988, after I'd toured most of the year already for my first album and before I moved to NYC I hooked up with a big time touring company/booking agent and we in my group were all pretty psyched about it. They'd given us some dates opening for Billy Bragg in the Pac No West which was very cool and I think we had a day or two off and they filled it in with a date opening for Jimmy Smith. I didn't know anything about him, but the show was in Davis, CA only it wasnt on the campus it was in a cabbage field. It was in an old barn with haybales for seats and some how they had electricity out there. We did two shows. The first one went okay but I had a hunch we were playing for a wrong crowd when a guy gave me a picture of Jesus and said " I think you're gonna need this". Jimmy Smith was great, of course. During the second song of the second show, which was 'Baby should I have The Baby', JS's big ol wife jumped up on stage and with all the black bluster she had in her said,"You all can finish now, Jimmy's ready to go on." She went on like that for a minute or so and I my drummer, Fluffy and bassist Waygone looked at each other and I asked them "what do you think?" Waygone Rex thought we should leave the stage and I said okay and we did. Right there in the middle of the 2nd or 3rd song. No big hook or boos or anything. It was eerie and weird. I don't think Ms. Smith liked that particular song but I also think that JImmy was getting up there in years and needed to go to bed before the sun went down.

Have a lovely Valentines Day!!

bobcolby5:19pm: Segue stories?
As you've either experienced or (certainly) read about by now, one of the neatest features in iTunes (the desktop software that feeds the iPod) is "shuffle", where your music library is fed to you in random order, resulting in your own private radio station.

Of course, you never know in advance how well things are going to fit together, but I've heard sets come out of this thing that would have had me calling a radio station to compliment the DJ, if there had been one. One of these was this morning (I have my desktop version of iTunes set up as a musical alarm clock), when CLB's "Every Someone Tonight" was played in between Richard Barone's "Tangled In Your Web", and the version of "Cabin Essence" from the new "Smile". Now that was a good set!

Anyone have similar (or extremely dissimilar) stories to share?

bobcolby11:49pm: Notes for the new (or non) LiveJournalist, part 1
If this thing works out, most of the people reading this will be new to LiveJournal, so as time allows (I'm working six days and one evening a week for the next few months) I'll be posting these little notes to help you get the most out of this particular community, as well as the larger LJ universe beyond. (The following expands somewhat on the info given in the "Welcome" thread below, which was a bit incomplete).

The most important thing you need to know is that full participation in this little endeavor requires two things (the second is pretty short, 'tho). In order to add comments to existing threads, you need to go to livejournal.com to get a free LiveJournal account. To post original threads, you need to take the next step and join this particular community. To do so, log into your LJ account, then click the "info" link (left-hand menu bar of this page) which gets you to our "community info" page, where there is a sign-up link in the first line (I think the link will take you to a page where you'll be asked to click on a "join community" button).

There are communities for every interest on LJ. If you go to my user info page and scroll down to the "member of" section, you'll get a sampling of what's available (I started the "burmafan" group as well). You can join them the same way you joined this one.

The easiest way to post to "berryhill_talk" (once you're fully joined up and logged into your LJ account) is to to click on the "pencil" icon on the "berryhill_talk" Community Info page referenced above, or you could go here and select "berryhill_talk" from the pulldown menu at the bottom of the page.

Feel free to ask any questions!

scythrop11:18am: Allow me to humbly submit a suggested icon for use as a default "user pic" in this community, should the moderator wish to use it...

I'll try to make more later. If anyone has a photo in mind for such, or other ideas, feel free to comment with a URL or e-mail me a JPEG.

bobcolby7:44pm: Opinions on "Smile"?
I posted this at the old place, but it might have been missed in the glut of spam.

Since lots of Cindy lee fans are Brian Wilson fans, too (including Cindy and Paul), I'm curious as to how people feel about the "completed" Smile. I know that Paul has said that "Heroes and Villians" is his favorite song, and I'd be especially curious to know what he thinks of the current version.

bobcolby3:39pm: Introductions
A good place to start would be to say how you discovered Cindy Lee and her music. Click "comment" to do so!
bobcolby3:20pm: Welcome!
Hi, Bob Colby here. I decided to start this LiveJournal community in response to the spam problem on the existing CLB discussion page. I suspect that problem has driven away much of the original readership, so it may take a while for people to discover this group. For those of you who have found this, I'd ask just a few things:

1) Join! if you haven't joined LiveJournal yet, know that it's free (you can get a paid account with more features, but everything you need to contribute here can be done with a free account), and that you can do a lot of neat things with it. Go here to start (you create an account by clicking the "create your own journal" link in the "Want to learn more?" section). Once you're a LiveJournalist, you can join this community by clicking the "info" link at the left of this page and then the appropriate link at the top of the "info" page.

2) Contribute. If you have questions about how to use your new LiveJournal account to post to this community journal (responding to an existing thread is pretty intuitive, but using the update function to post new threads is a bit less so), there's an extensive FAQ under the Help menu at the livejournal site. It will take some time for the audience to arrive, so it's important that there be things to read and respond to. For that reason, I'd like the discussion to include other music we like (it's fascinating to see what kind of basic aesthetic CLB fans have in common), as well as anything else you think this particular community might find interesting.

3) Let anyone who you think would be interested in this know about it.

Thanks!
