I cut up a cucumber and this was the contents of my roll - inspired by a spicy salmon skin roll.It was so good! )

You are staring at: Yves tofu octodog, in veggie space. Pastelon stars (sort of a shepherd's pie but using mashed RIPE plantain and tvp), strawberry all on top of rice.

Happy Stars

Yay, I finally got another entry done for bentochallenge! I'd wanted to do some of the previous themes but couldn't find anything to do after a while. It would have been so cool to make a cylon bento, haha! Here is my stars entry:

Two happy onigiri, two meatballs, some sanbaizuke, and star shaped bell peppers and sweet potato. Full entry is here: http://pikkopots.blogspot.com/2007/06/starry-bento.html

Calcifer Bento

  • Jun. 22nd, 2007 at 2:30 PM
For this week, Bento Challenge posed a very broad topic, Stars. I love broad topics since it turns the conceptualization process a challenge in itself. Rising to the plate is my entry for the Stars challenge, a Calcifer bento.

Calcifer is a fire demon from one of my favorite books, Diana Wynne Jones' Howl's Moving Castle. As the book was eventually turned into Hayao Miyazaki's Hauru no Ugoku Shiro (Howl's Moving Castle), I opted to model Calcifer from the anime rather than the book because it's difficult to find blues and purples in food. Wait! How does that fit in with the theme? Well, I return the question to you guys. Onigiri for those who can make the theme challenge connection! :D

Bento #135 • 22 June 2007

Guess the theme connection!
Note: For those who've neither read the book nor watched the anime, it can get spoilery. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Contents: Smoked salmon & cream cheese onigiri, cream korokke, shredded iceberg lettuce, feta stuffed cherry tomatoes and green & red bell pepper stars.

Starry Bentos

I thought this project would be the easiest, but I must admit, I was a bit stumped as to what to cook/make, so I kept it simple.

Starry Sandwiches

Left tier=Top has Baby carrots and Ranch Dressing, bottom has Sugar cookies with pink ButterCream Frosting with Star Sprinkles.

Right Tier=Star Sandwiches made of Pastrami and provolone cheese with Mustard on Wheat Bread, and grapes.

I had a similar one but with Peanut Butter Sandwiches on white bread.

And here is the second one I had for Lunch today:

Spam All Stars

Left Tier=Same as previous, sans cookies

Right Tier=Stars made of Spam, on top of Jasmine Rice and white Mushrooms.

Keep up the good work girls! I see a lot of creativity in this community :)

Starry bento

Finally I got around to do a Star-themed bento.

Left: Peach-stars.
In the box, from top left:
Star-shaped egg with cheese star. Capsicum- and daikon stars, with a little nori decoration. Cooked carrot-stars.
Next tier:
star shaped onigiri, the small ones with tamago-furikake, the larger ones with wasabi/umeboshi and a cheese star on top. The onigiri are resting on a little lettuce.
