There's a reason I chose Tiger for this week's theme, besides the Chinese New Year. I was selected to submit a special bento for an international article about food, and the theme was to pick a event that was to take place in 2010, such as the Winter Olympics or a presidential election. I chose the Tiger.



Left tier has a Jasmine rice background with cheese moon, leek stalks for the grass, and an omelet tiger. I painted the stripes on using food coloring gel with a small paint brush. My original intent was to dye the rice red, and make a yin-yang with the cheese, but I am happy with this outcome :3

Right tier has Garlic Shrimp, Navel Orange Wedges and Sweet Spring Strawberries.

With the Chinese New Year quickly approaching, we wave goodbye to the year of the Ox, and welcome the year of the Tiger.

I just realized this is my 150th bento. I kind of wish I would've made it a lot nicer looking too, since this was rushed and not planned.



This lunch has sliced Navel Orange wedges and Strawberries, along with a PBJ sanwich with a cheese Mario on top, colored with food markers. Above the sandwich are Lemon Creme Cassis Girl Scout cookies and strawberry pocky below.

It's been AGES since I've posted here... and considering I was one of the founders of BentoChallenge, this is more than a little embarassing... but here I am with a double (or tripple, but the last one is kinda cheating *L*) penguin-bento...

Penguin Bento Tomato/eggplant stew. Cherry tomato. Grated cheese in the penguin. Candies. Sugar Snaps. Egg with egg plant peel, carrot and yellow pepper. Spaghetti with tomato and garlic oil. Quail egg penguin. Radish ! and egg plant peel-polar bear.

Since I think that cheese on rice or Nori is weird, Tux is actually made out of omelette. First I split two eggs and made an egg-sheet out of the whites, then I blended the yolks and the leftover white and made some more with the yellow part. Worked pretty well, and I even have some left over for the next bento!
Details are nori.

Together with the rice I'll have fishsticks, half an avocado, cherry tomatos and there's also a fishy bottle with ketchup for the fishsticks. (This is actually the BF's box - mine was smaller and the avocado didn't look so fresh in it. But it's still tasty, so everything is fine.)

Game Shows-they captivate our interest, challenge our intellect (sometimes,) and are the guilty pleasure of millions worldwide.

This week's challenge is in honor of our favorite TV game shows, both classic and contemporary. Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Who wants to be a Millionaire? I expect to see colorful Plinko boards, microphones, and wheels of some sort.

This week, show us your favorite Elvis song (or movie) in your lunch. Or you could also try and make any of the King's favorite recipes, such as fried Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwiches. I imagine he mostly liked Comfort food from the South.

Left tier has 12 seedless red grapes for a year of goodluck, with yellow cheese boxer shorts/underwear for gold within the new year. Above is a Statue of Liberty pick with a rumball to represent watching the ball drop on TV in Times Square on top of chicken egg rolls.

Right tier has Rosemary and herb Chicken and roasted fries, with a cheese suitcase on top, to represent our walk around the neighborhood with a suitcase in tow. This will hopefully fulfill our wish of traveling in the new year.

Here's a bento for the New Year. We had some friends over to party and watch the ball drop on TV. I'll take this to the office for lunch tomorrow...



Top tier: Leftover bunny crackers and mixed nuts from the party.
Middle: Leftover mini quiches, carrots and celery sticks from the party, with picks & cheese stars representing fireworks and veg bits to resemble confetti.
Bottom tier: Hoppin' john with black eyed peas for good luck and celery "dollars" for money in the New year!

Happy 2010! How did you celebrate your New Year?

Different countries and cultures celebrate in their own unique way. Many display Fireworks. Japan Celebrates Shogatsu. Brazilians dress in all white and eat meals with grapes and lentils to bring good luck to the new year. Ecuadorians put on small skits known as "Años Viejos" (Old years,) that represent people and events of the past year. They also wear yellow underwear for positive energy, eat 12 grapes at the stroke of midnight for each month to bring in luck, and walk around the block with a suitcase in hopes to travel abroad within the next year (all of which I did, although I'm Venezuelan.)

How do you celebrate? Do you and your family and friends have a special way of ringing in the new year? Show us any traditional meals you may eat in your bento, or maybe the Infamous Ball dropping in NYC in Times Square.

Curious how I made a snowman 2 nights ago, so i thought "why not"? Here's my first post! Hope you like it.

Hello! This is my first time posting and my first time attempting to make any sort of themed bento at all.

In some places, with winter comes snow. I've been dreaming of a white Christmas, but seeing as how I live in South Florida, that won't be happening anytime soon.

The challenge this week is also the last of the year. So let's say goodbye to 2009 with a wintry, white bento. Snowmen, snowball fights, ice skating-all the fun things one can do on a snow day.
