[i]imspanish: Exile in Guyville

I just listened to this album all the way through while doing chores.  What a great record!  I must be in a great mood today- everything is so wonderful.

[i]imspanish: Yes, It's True!

I've met someone.  I'm dating a great guy and it's starting to go places.  This is uncharted territory for little old, totally sheltered, relationship-phobic me but I must say it's pretty dang awesome!

[i]sprig5: Current New Yorker

Article about brain, creativity, mood etc.:

You can't read it on the New Yorker site right now, but this site claims to have a pdf of it:

i.e., you can get to the pdf here:

Exhibits:

Carlos Perez Siquier and other photographers have work in an exhibition called "The Good Life" at Yancey Richardson in NYC. the perfect exhibit for the dog days of summer. I would not travel north to NY just for this, but seeing them online is fun.

U.K.-born photographer Edith Maybin  explores gender, sexuality, where a mother stops and a daughter begins--sometimes literally. Beautiful but a little f-in weird.

The New Museum's Altoids Award exhibition led me to the documentary video work of Michael Stickrod, originaly of Columbus OH but recently graduated the Yale MFA program. There is one video on the museum's website, called "End of the Line," I think. Scroll down on this page to watch it. I think the man talking is Stickrod's father or another relative.

My plan today was to tidy, and unpack, and clean, and wash up, and do useful stuff. What I've done is go out and eat a pizza, upload some photos to Flickr, play some Mario Kart1 and generally bum around on the internet. Why do I fail so spectacularly at not being a useless lazy fvck?

I'm off out to go and watch Squeeze at ExCel soon. That will be fun.

[i]ange1oz: brahma beer fest shite shite shite

Hat tip to [info]burkesworks for the world's most controversial boardgames. I like Capital Punishment - "‘bring your liberals out of their ivory tower” and “use them to ‘spring’ your opponent’s criminals from the path of justice… send them back on the street where their activities make your opponent’s innocent citizens into victims of crime’."

Well, after going home from work (the woolworths one not the awesome one) injured, the day has been alright. We just had "the best thai meal since thursday" and now I'm going to go hunt some treasure in AOE3 on my new computer and eat American candy and drink Dr Pepper and watch Seinfeld. And as great as all that is, I'm actually wishing the weekend would hurry up so I can go back to work :(

First week of summer school: FIN. I am 25% done!! OMG the class is helllllllla boring, so boring it's painful. It's like being beaten with a pillowcase full of batteries for three hours. Also where do some people get the nerve to actually ask the questions they ask?? "What's a quadratic equation?!?!" Are you shitting me??? You are actually asking that question aloud, to the prof??? This class is not high math or anything, but uhhh ALGEBRA is still a requirement. Listen you guise I'm not ragging on anyone for not knowing shit, b/c lord knows I have no ground for that, but I fucking hate it when people bother the teacher with stuff they could find out on their own within 10 seconds, or when they make the teacher hold their hand through basic stuff they KNOW they should already know, AND they act all entitled about it. The nervy nerve of thems guys!! >:((

Seriously smooooth: I was in the bathroom with a lady from the class and she asked, "Do you get any of this stuff?" and I was all ???? is she talking to me?? and I spent like five full seconds looking around the bathroom to see if there was anyone else and there wasn't, but by that time she was already in a stall and it was awkward. Especially when we ended up washing our hands at the same time. Sorry lady, I should just wear a sign that says "It is a Mistake to try to make conversation with me." I DON'T KNOW HOW TO ACT AROUND PEOPLE. DDDD:

My grand plan for short hair was majorly upset to-day by this revelation: if I cut my hair that short, it is VERY VERY likely that my hair is going to be BIG and puffy and not cute and light at all. It is so flipping wavy these days. Ugh fuk u, hair.

Gadgadsgame and Faerie Bubbles are so annoying.

I stayed up until 6 yesterday and I woke up at 11:30 so I thought fer sure I would be tired enough to sleep before 3 tonight but lol. LOL! My sleeping patterns are always so fucked up.

Project Runway thoughts
- I love Heidi.
- I love Tim.
- I love Nina. Nina, I do not think you are mean!!! And I am glad that you didn't get fired!!!
- Suede is second only to Wendy fucking Pepper in the category of most unwatchable obnoxious irritating gtfo-worthy person on PR. This season has so many desperate attn whores playing for the camera, but he is without a doubt THE WORST.
- These people are trying to be sassy and funny, with their unnecessary jabs at Heidi and impersonations of Tim etc, but it's so fucking forced and ughhhh TRANSPARENT. You are not as funny as you are hoping you are so stfu and just make your clothes properly.
- Also why the fuck is everyone so gussied up all the time? This would not be so annoying if they a) dressed well and/or b) made better clothes.
- Yeah now that I've gotten started, I am worried. It's only been two episodes so I'm hoping it gets better really quickly. But man the designers are all so young and they just don't seem that good. They don't seem to know what they're doing and they seem hellllllla more concerned about delivering sound-bites than trying to make nice clothes. And I REALLY hated the last challenge, what the fuck was that about. It was just dumb and geared for unnecessary drama. Project Runway is nothing without its integrity!! I hope this was an aberration~. And that the designers were cast on talent. And that the talent is just taking its sweet time to show up. :((
- Kelli seems cool though. Keith seemed like a dickhead in the first episode but I am okay with him right now, he might turn out to be sensible. Joe seems good too. I liked Terri's dress a lot, and that one girl who looks like Leanne but is quieter (Jennifer?) and not so... ginghamy. They seem promising. But right now Daniel is my favorite b/c he is quiet and un-assholeish and wanted to be a zoologist as a secondary career path and looked like a hobo in second episode and ~took a risk~ in the first episode that showed he thought innovatively~ about the challenge and is in this to actually be a designer, not a reality TV star. AND he said that Austin was his favorite PR designer!! That was the instant I was all, Imma keep an eye on you~~~~. A man after my own heart.
- So yeah, so far the best thing about this season was AUSTIN~~~ in the first episode. i lu Austin even if you're wearing about 5 lbs of make-up.

[i]skemogorilla: The Reality of the Past

(Mozhaisk, 1911)

(The Emir of Bukhara, 1911)

Early color photography terrifies (and enthralls) me because it reminds me that the past and its inhabitants were every bit as real as I am now, just as vibrant and tangible as the present. These people were as real as me, but they are now decades dead as I someday will be.

No one lived in a world of sepia-tone and grayscale.
