We have two applicants to vote on. I mean, I should have stamped them some time ago, but basically nobody has voted:
baloneymaloney here
disheveled_pash here
If anyone's reading this, I beg you to vote. If not, at least abstain.
I don't really want beautyandbitch to die. It's been going for a few years now and we've recently had an exodus of people, but that doesn't mean its existence has to cease to be. Personally, I'm all for keeping up a presence on LJ, but I also think setting up an internet forum might be a better way of doing things (and I have several ideas about that!). Mark bandied about some ideas before departing, but nothing really got done other than a slight resurgence.
So, I think what's happening at the moment may be more than just a lull. We need to either start something fresh and new or decide to continue on LJ and just have people post more - there have been days when people posted pictures practically every day, and even common-or-garden pictures of our beautiful members are acceptable.
I mean, c'mon. There are 25 members left and 140 watching this community, although I wonder how many look. So can we please have a little input?
(I had a conversation with Mark about what to do with this community. If you haven't already listened to the MP3, please do.)

Isaac and I went to Evergreen Lake yesterday with Hayley and her mom. We took the dogs swimming and for a walk around the lake. Hayley's mom also showed us some really neat spots for hiking and trail riding (horse back).

So I've been reading recently on cooking methods and such and realized I'm a complete fucking novice when it comes to some of the basics. Case in point: the sauté method.
Anyway, I've been playing around a bit with a few different techniques and approaches lately and rather enjoyed tonight's results:

I asked a person whose membership I approved some time ago the following question:I was wondering if you were planning to fill out an application for B&B (beautyandbitch) any time soon-ish. Please reply with your thoughts. Her response:I still dont really understand what I'm supposed to do while I'm on there :S What would you tell her? What's she supposed to do while she is here?
ETA: Here's what I told her:The gist is— once your application is accepted, post anything you do that's creative, whether that's cooking, painting, music, self-portraits, etc. OR anything personal, stuff that's personally in your life/environment around you, beautiful things, stuff that you notice, in your environment, on the Internet, stuff that you appreciate, love, think is beautiful.
All that is a good place to start. And how she responded:see NOW i understand.

Not sure I like the new colour scheme. The text is really hard to read. I like the new layout, though! But seriously, ether make the background darker or the text colour black or navy. Merci merci!
Anyway, I've been über-busy recently, what with being a nurse as well as a writer/actor/singer, et ceteri. I did, however, play a gig in May under my "Pookie K" name. It was at an open mike evening and a group of us (FAWMers) invaded the place so that 6 of the sets played were FAWM people.
As with all my gigs, I recorded the music, but it's very poor quality, so you can listen if you want to, but have some ( pictures anyway. )
Anyway, yes. Not dead yet! I wish I had something else to share - to join in with keeping this place alive. I'm pretty sure I'll have something else to share at some point.

Now, I am asking one of you with web skills, (This includes Virginia, Tessa 1, Tessa 2, Valerie, Annsley, Chelsea, Chris & maybe others?) THE FIRST ONE OF YOU WHO GETS TO THIS, THIS WEEK, GIVE US A LAYOUT THAT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE A FUNERAL. I ain't picky.
Conversely, give me a link or two to show me how, and I'll do it.

What is this post?
Why are you lurking, instead of applying? How long have you been reading here? How many of us do you know by first name, not just screen name? What's your excuse? Do you not want to be a part of its last gasp?
Do you realize that if all of you reading this and not applying actually applied... it wouldn't have to BE its last gasp?
What is this post?
Who am I?

| Goodbye? |
[28 Jun 2009|09:19pm] |
At the risk of sounding dramatic, I'm abandoning ship on August 1st if things don't turn around here. But I don't necessarily concern myself with avoiding drama. So, here we go.
In order for this place to be considered active (by me), we need posts from at least three different people (who are not me) each week. There are five weeks leading up to August 1st. So we shall see what happens with that.
I'll be honest: I do not expect B&B to make this modest goal. Thus, I'm committed to leaving.
I still need a place, a community, to be creative, though— an online community, as I lack one in real life (it's more of a mish-mash of non-mutual friends scattered all over the place). So I'll be thinking up some other place to go to and/or create; I'll also be on the lookout for suggestions.
These are dramatic times— "working on my thesis" has really got to become working on my thesis RIGHT NOW more than it ever has. I'm beginning to paint again. Both of these relate to my running out of money and (completely understandable) parental threats that I'll have to leave New York and go to Texas once I'm done the thesis and really do run out of money.
If I leave New York, it'll be against my will, and it's never fun to do things against one's will. Oddly enough, I'm happier than I've ever been— realizing in just these past few months (after being here three years now) that I have all these people in various locations throughout the city whom I can and do connect with. It's a hell of a thing for one's state of mind not to have the burden of a masters program over one's shoulders dictating who one is, how one lives and whom one sees.
